The players, quite rightly, clearly have no respect for this hapless ball bag.

Ivic In. Won 6 drawn 5 Lost 2. Just need to improve the away form and turn draws into wins.

I thought Gino was a **** for only giving him a one year deal?

Amazed at fans, who have brought in to the concept of replacing the manger twice a season. It’s a rebuild job, and it will take some time. We need continuity and stay with Ivic this season, and give him the opportunity to build

...as I said in the Shoutbox, what you’re saying above doesn’t come close to the whole picture though.

The performances are beyond ponderous and we’ve been stuck in 2nd gear all season. The only difference between the home form and away form is that we’ve had a touch of luck at home. The players aren’t enjoying playing for the manager and it’s obvious. He’s had plenty of chances to show he has attacking instincts in his ‘philosophy’ and he neglects the chance to do so at every turn more or less.

The chances of our little bits of luck running out far outweigh the chances of the players suddenly enjoying playing for Ivic or him growing an attacking backbone.

If promotion is the aim, we aren’t going to get it this season with this manager. I’m convinced of that. There’s so many aspects of a promotion winning team that are missing - spirit and cohesion are massive and we are lacking in both. I think Ivic is behaving like a manager who has been given a bigger remit and longer contract than he has. I wouldn’t be so worried about all this if he was on a 2-3 year deal. I think he’s trying to make us solid before focusing on making the most of our attackers - but I think the games come too fast this season to do that. Gino didn’t keep Sarr (almost at all costs) to have this style thrust upon us...certain of it.

We have a decent squad. I don’t think it’s as good as others make out - but it should be enough to get us out of this league if we can find the aspects missing.

If I were Gino, I’d be telling Ivic tomorrow that this style of football isn’t enough - because he doesn’t have more seasons to make it work at this level. And give him a couple of weeks to fix it.

Failing that, I’d have rid of him before Xmas and give the job to Sam Allardyce, with a juicy bonus payable upon promotion. I think he’d be a good choice of getting the players to enjoy themselves again - and he’d embolden our more skilful attacking players too.

As much as I can't abide the constant sacking of coaches ( ironic given that the ****** I work with would have to murder the entire junior section to be removed at my tennis club!) I think you make some good points Burnsy.
There is clearly a lack of cohesion and I cannot understand why EVERY blinking team in the division moves the ball with more purpose and tempo than we do.
I'm going to batter myself about the head with an old Wimbledon handbook for saying this but I would be quite happy for BFS.
Then again I went to the nursery today in my snake costume so I'm not convinced I'm a good judge!

Does one not lead to the other? Players know he is going to get sacked at drop of a hat so the power is with them.

Looked like an average Championship side with no quality up front.

Ok in defence and tidy but lightweight in midfield.

Tonight when the players got there heads up and switched the play it created things going forward only to be let down by a bad decision or touch. The trouble was going forward over and over again passing backwards allowing them to get their shape only to hump it forward and lose possession. Ivic is giving these orders and needs to change. And bfs will never come to us not after Pearson

To be fair you need some luck in matches. If any team wins 16 out of 18 at home I am sure there were some games where luck was involved. The away form needs improving. As regards to Ivic not getting us promoted its too early to know for sure. Its your opinion, you are entitled to it of course. And in the future you could be right who knows. But 5th in a tight league it wouldn't be right or honest of me to say Ivic is going to fail at this point. 13 games into a 46 game season. Free flowing football is less important to me than results. Yes in an ideal world I would like to see both but its by and large the same squad that wasn't playing well when it came back from lockdown last season and with no goalscoring midfielders added and young players being given a chance who's best days are still ahead of them. And to be fair to Ivic, up to now, he hasn't had his best players on the pitch at the same time yet due to injury and Covid. For me its the end game and a chance of getting promotion. Its rare for a manager gets sacked for playing dull football i think if the end game is still realistic from a points perspective, so the board sacking him now don't make sense to me.

Allardyce will go anywhere in the PL/Top 10 Championship clubs that will pay him handsomely enough.

Not sure the Pearson thing would even register with his decision making.

‘Get us promoted Sam, and there’s £2m and a guaranteed extra years deal in it’ - I think he’d be tempted personally.

It’s rare in football that a manager is sacked for playing dull football - but it’s not rare for the Pozzo family.

And I disagree - I don’t think it’s all about this season. If this continued all season, we somehow get in the playoffs and win them - I’d be petrified about next season in the PL with this style. Getting promoted is so important - but we have to be set up for a decent chance of survival.

You can’t honestly tell me you’re impressed with how we are playing? The players aren’t enjoying it. It’s beyond noticeable.

I don’t really want a debate about sacking him or not right now - I don’t have an overwhelming opinion on that. But I do have an overwhelming opinion that what we have been served up so far is boring, and won’t succeed across the length of the season.

There is a very marked and important difference between 'dull/not-free-flowing' football and ineffective football, and that is our actual issue.

Don't worry. His contract is only 1 year. No guarantee he will stay after this season.

Go back to my original post to see my thoughts on that.

Ivic is setting us up like a manager who has a longer deal. Had he been given 2-3 years, I wouldn’t mind this so much as it would be more of a project. But he hasn’t. What we are being subjected to with every passing week is turgid beyond reason really. And the signals of what’s to come are pointing downwards not upwards given the last few performances.

If you think what we are seeing is good enough and will be across the season, fair enough.

I think the sackings were by not getting the points on the board by and large. Exceptions off the top of my head being Jokanovic due to a contract disagreement and Dyche coz they wanted someone else (from abroad).

You can argue about where we should be in the league versus where we are, as well as who we are getting what results against, but either way if you look at league position devoid of any other context it's a slightly kinder argument.

But if you watch the games and how we are playing, it's barely an argument at all, and this is something that has already been pointed out quite a lot by multiple posters.

I take your point, as I said before I would like to see more nice football more often in an ideal world. But as Zola showed, playing nice football doesn't necessarily mean the end goal is achieved.

No, I agree with that, but I'm not sure you do - I (and others) are not just talking about whether the football 'looks nice' or not - we're not ugly and functional either, and that's the actual problem. In the final third, we are impotent, and looking like getting worse rather than better. I would gladly watch us Burnley our way to the Championship title, but by no stretch of the imagination can we be said to be doing that either. We are nowhere near as effective a team as that, all across the pitch.

Sannino was an unusual one. Mazzari and QSF I believe the points tally/form took a dip second half of the season.

Bilic an upgrade to ivic ? I’d say that’s a side ways step. The Reading boss is doing well with what he has at his disposal
