The issue I think isn’t that defensively he ‘can’ be poor. It’s that defensively he simply just is poor. Far too weak and easy to play against sadly. But I don’t see a huge amount of options to change it either. The squad we currently have means Femenia will get plenty of football and at a times, the rest of them will need to bail him out defensively.
Good in the second half, totally anonymous in the first half. Needs to be much better because we know he can be.
I’m not sure it was so bad for Foster - it’s natural for a GK to push out as soon as the ball is headed away from the box. The defence does so to play offside as there is so many attackers there from the corner/set-piece. It was a great intuitive header from a player who knew the GK would be off his line.
Since nobody is getting through all 35 other league games until the end of the season, I'd definitely have Ngakia as our first choice, but if it is a game against someone down the bottom, play Kiko for his ability going forward, but anyone who will look to attack us, play Ngakia. Coventry are a weird one, had a lot about them, more ability than a lot of teams in this division, but they have a habit of giving up some very sloppy goals
On reflection, you're right. I also agree with the other person who said that it likely wasn't actually aimed at the goal, was more to send the ball back into the box. Foster will probably still be embarrassed though
Oh he won’t be happy to have been beaten from there but he seems the type to just be happy to win (or just take part) going by his YouTube videos! I think the attacker did very well catching the ball while it was still rising - a very hard skill to head a ball like that!
Garner and Capoue are decent but we never play through the middle. At all. Ever. It's always the wings. Odd. And until first half it was always the right side. Thank goodness we remembered Ken's existence second half.
To get the negatives out of the way, the defending was bad and Kiko had a mare. He’s been great this season but maybe needed a rest. Ngakia was a huge upgrade and shut the game down. Our quality showed in the end and it was pretty entertaining. Can’t complain too much. Up to second (and essentially top as Reading are done) and still not playing anywhere near as well as we can. We’re up.
Just checked the table and noticed we have played away at the bottom three! 1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss, therefore although we are 2nd we need to play much better away from home! sort that and we will be ok!
We are 1 point off top going into the break. I would have bitten your hand off for that at the start of the season. everyone eulogised about Leeds last season but they did not piss the league, they lost games they should have won on the pitch or on paper and they rarely won by big margins. This division is a slog. Get used to it.
Another cracking win after a better performance, but way short of where we could be. Ivic said this after the game; "We believe that it's some psychological problem what we have and we need to fix this problem. This is something what we need to work on and I will speak to my players and we will work on this to fix it." Absolutely, the only thing holding us back is our mindset. We have ability in spades.
It's an interesting take on this problem. In fact, I wonder if it was actually part of the thinking before the start of this match. But Coventry looked surprisingly good going forward and Femenia's defensive frailties were badly exposed.
Also, can anyone such a forgettable player as Sema changing into such a phenom? Tommy Mooney said he’s now his favourite player of all time.
A wins a win, You can already see where we are venerable, left centre back area and anyone cutting inside of Kiko. Plug those holes and with the attacking options we have then we will win a lot more than we will lose
I am very accurate they are the bottom three! How and why they are bottom three doesn’t disguise the fact!
Strange game. Coventry’s first goal was one of those bizarre/freak goals that we tend to concede, although we got a lucky one last week. I have never seen a header scored from a bouncing ball 25 yards from goal before today. Sunday league stuff. Ken Sema is a joy to watch going forward. If we can get Sarr and Sema consistently beating their opponents and getting the ball into the box, we will score many goals, particularly if we can get our midfielders up in attack to support them. The three at the back is obviously a work in progress, because it is not working. One long ball and not one of our centre halves gets a touch to it before it ends up in the net. I would think that it has to be changed if it doesn’t click into place very soon. Delighted with the result and our 2nd place position. I just feel that we need some more from our midfield from a creative point of view, as a back up to Sarr and Sema. I think Hughes will help that and Quina is more effective as an attacking threat than the current first choices. We played a lot better in the 2nd half . Ivic has many options available and the break will give him a chance to improve the systems.
There's no way that first Coventry header was an effort at goal. Amazing. Even more incredible: I saw Deeney running today.
I agree . How shyte were we when we could only draw 0-0 with a team who had amassed -9 points . A new low for Watford FC . Surely .
Really we have the odd player who is very good for this level but most are those that can do a job without being outstanding.
HMS P1ss The League exiting The Grand Union Canal , making its way into the Caribbean sunset for a weeks R 'n'R before heading back up the Thames in West London for QPR away. COGs dancing the night away in the balmy Caribbean nights, drunk on rum, reggae, ganja, and a heavy dose of self delusion. Bedwetters left to type angrily at their keyboards in the low slung grey skies of rainy Old Blighty, dreaming of better days when Watford no longer fluke victories and get royally beaten by The Championships worst and woeful.
Do you think that, when we are away to a top 3 team when the league settles down a bit, Andre will be able to relieve the pressure on our defence by gaining good possession of the ball which will enable us to move up the pitch which in turn will give the defence a breather?. 15 goal a season championship strikers are 10 a penny btw even **** town have one!
