I imagine it depends on how deep in the ocean the creature lives, the deeper the location the tighter the butt?
That could have finished 10-0 and I still would not enjoy it. No fans simply doesn’t work and I hate it I thought we were better yesterday with some quicker incisive passing and when do that we look a very good team. Glad to see Gray get a goal and despite his faults he continues to get in the right position. Femenia has been pretty good this season and deserved to start but yesterday showed why he isn’t a defender. I was pleased to see Ivic do something about it reasonably early. Capoue was better but please pass forward and not back especially when there east options available. It’s infuriating. I thought we played a different formation, maybe more of 3-4-3. Thought Deeney looked half the player he has been when he came on but in a good way. Second in the league is not to be sniffed at and I do think we will improve. I’m not a big one for comparing seasons but for me this just looks like a standard Championship season with no stand out sides. I think there are maybe 2 or 3 teams who have that extra bit of quality in certain areas that will make the difference and I think we are one of those sides
Fantastic movement by Gray when he got his goal, when Sema was about to cross you could see him busting a gut to get on the end of it, something young Pedro has to learn!
That game was definitely the most miserable I've experienced in person as a Watford fan. Was pi55ing it down as well.
Sounds like paradise. Just need Coventry quality curry and confirmation that the ship is entirely staffed by Brazilian women.
2000/2001. We won at Stockport County 3-2, then beat Birmingham 2-0 at the Vic after the break. Only reason I remember is Allan Neilson scored, who was becoming quite a fan favourite.
I'm sure you are right, however Gray didn't hold his position he moved to the one where the ball was going ie anticipated it well, something of which he doesn't always get the credit for! (not that he has had the recent minutes but I'm sure you know what I mean)
Lucky deflection for his goal, holding back a yard would give a better target for a precision cross but a goal is a goal so a little bit of credit is due. It now opens up another problem, Gray or the new slim version of deeney!
Personally I don't think Pedro needs to learn anything from Gray. Others, yes, but not Gray. Next, you'll be saying that Gray took his goal chance well! Would still prefer him to Deeney at the moment, though. But, full marks to Troy for actually getting himself looking like a footballer again, instead of a darts player. He's obviously put some work and effort in, so credit is due.
Our defence is just too static, they set up well waiting for a bombardment and just about cope when we're sat deep, but any forwards with pace just rip us apart, especially on the break. I guess this is why Slav has so far set us so deep, he knows that when we press on as a team we are really vulnerable at the back. No change there then. Femenia needs to play right midfield, he's good there, then Nkogia LB and Sarr in front.? Seems the search for a proper LB could be import for us to properly fix our defence...
One thing i've noticed this season, is we have a lot of good chance that don't necessarily show up in the stats. In pretty much every game Sema/Sarr put in at least one cross that is an inch away from being tapped in by someone, or we've missed the chance to give someone a tap in from a poor cut back.
I was thinking this about Kiko this morning,as Gary Neville said " a good footballer but not a defender".
Pedro is more of a threat in the centre than Gray in my opinion, Andre may hold his position or make a good run here and there but he can't finish and I personally never rally back him to score. Should have put the game away yesterday when he went one on one with the Coventry keeper, if JP gets a similar opportunity the ball is more likely to hit the back of the net.
I hate Gray (yes, loathe him) but his movement for the goal was flawless. He looked at ken, saw he was going to the bye line and then made a first rate run to the danger zone. The fact he scored simply by possessing mass and occupying space, with zero active skill, is proof in itself that the run he made was spot on.
Interestingly, if you'd asked me after the game from watching I felt like we were very ponderous and again lacked creatively. We actually had the highest xG in the whole division (this excludes penalties) this weekend - we don't seem to create many chances, but the ones we do seem to be relatively high scoring opportunities.
Yup i've not been much of a Gray fan but his movement is spot on, with the amount of cut backs we create he should be scoring for fun despite his obvious flaws.
Gray is one of those where the longer he has to think about it the worse the outcome gets. Yesterday was textbook example of that.
Femenia is not just quite good going forward and poor in defence; he is one of the better right wingers in the division and one of the worst right backs. There, I've said it. Indeed, if we didn't have Sarr he would probably have a rock solid position in the team, on the right wing. But we do have Sarr and Coventry, I feel, knew this all too well. Consequently they overloaded and prepared on their left to snuff out the threat of these 2 players. In the first half, particularly, this worked well and contributed to the opinion that Femenia had a bad game. But of course it left Coventry light in other areas - they failed to accord Sema the same level of respect and in the second half they paid for this.. Gray's goal might have appeared as scruffy as they get, but it was initiated by an exquisite pass by Capoue and a brilliant piece of play by Sema. Sema's first touch, at speed, took the right back out of it. 2 pieces of Premier League play.
We seem to get a couple of 20 minute spells each game where we look great, and look likely to score, but generally we don't. We still don't move up and back as a team, and generally we either move up too slowly or we only seem to want to play killer tip tap passing where 9 times out of 10 we just give the ball away. Sarr's problem generally is when he has to chase the longer balls but never has more than 1 target man with him. I actually noticed him losing the ball a few times yesterday, but it was because he was trying to delay his cross and pick somebody out to cross to. He's definitely learning and what a first touch he has.....
Why are people still dribbling on about needing a new left back when in Ken Sema we have the best left back in English football at the moment?
Thought they were quite tidy, albeit they were useless at the back, especially in the second half. I don't know if it was us who were the problem more than anything, but they caused us far more problems than Derby and L*ton, albeit none of those teams were so useless at the back
Exactly this. With a better striker they'd have scored a couple more. Kiko doesn't stop that cross from the left and still not sure how the guy missed.... Although Gray's chances were equally good.
Deliberately get knocked out of the "World's Greatest Cup Competition' (TM)??? Hang your head in shame
