Reminds me of a comment that Troy made just after Ivi* came in, something like “the lads aren’t moaning about training yet, which is good” or something along those lines. It annoyed me and highlighted a possible issue that has reared its head a few times since the Pozzos took over. It links back to the players having longer contracts than the manager and the managers office being a revolving door. It seems like if they don’t like what the manager is doing they moan and go on strike and they end up getting the sack. It’s all wrong. Most players don’t become managers, let alone good managers. It stands to reason each football team only has one manger for 25+ players. So most of them won’t know what they’re talking about and won’t know more than the manager, or know best, even if they think they do. They’re paid a ridiculous salary to do what they are told, if they don’t like a particular training regime then it should be tough luck, but you don’t get to have an opinion on it, get on with it or sling your hook.
Expect we will score in the first half and then hope to hold out. Half time team talk will probably be along the lines of "FFS lads, MAKE AN EFFORT" as we limp along. We won't and will concede late on for a hard earned draw.
Prutton Watch - EFL "expert" thinks it'll be a draw. Which is good news, as so far he's failed to predict any of our wins but backed us to win the last two which we didn't.
On the first paragraph it flipping well should be with the players, they're a long time retired and however many namby pamby paper columns or radio appearances they muster, they won't be playing. I fail to see how any player could have even one iota of this attitude. Non negotiable. For the second, you have to train twice as hard post thirty as everything declines, including your temper, by the looks of The Mad Greek!
Cauley Woodrow is apparently the son of our very own Martin Patching. I heard this some time ago and checked it on https://www.transfermarkt.com/martin-patching/profil/spieler/482953.
We're playing Barnsley with our best team and I have to predict it. Prediction Barnsley 1-0 Watford Hughes (og 90+5); Deeney (missed pen 32, 68, 90+4)
He is indeed. A local lad pinched by Fulham. Martin settled in the area post retirement from football. The resemblance is there at times to a young Patching. Same work ethic as well.
I have only been there once also, no idea what the game was or the result, don't know how you lot remember these things, when it was, who scored etc... Think I must have the sh1ttest memory in the world, or I was constantly pissed for 30 years.....could be that. I do however remember three things about that day, we had pre-match beers in the Barnsley supporters club and they seemed a decent bunch, it rained and there was a hole in the roof which was conveniently directly above my seat and most importantly it was the first time I had ever heard Bovril referred to as beef tea. Maybe the important things do stick.
Same. It was a fun day out from what I recall. Stayed with a mate the night before who was at Sheffield university and were out until the small hours. Up and out to the game and we were still half cut, plus he'd had a fight earlier in the week so his nose was all over his face and couldn't see properly out of one eye. Got some 1960s train to Barnsley and ended up going for a few beers in what I think was a leisure centre near Oakwell, all very odd. Think the away end was uncovered seats and we spent the whole game exchanging abuse with a fat bloke and his two equally foul mouthed sons. Nowadays I'd be look at me and think "bell end", but such are the carefree days of youth. As for the game, I think Ngonge equalised in injury time after assaulting the Barnsley keeper, with no one quite believing it had been given. Afterwards we were walking away from the ground and it was all very tense. Some Watford lad shouted "who f**king wants it?" and the police waded in before it kicked off. Not a place you wanted to hang about after and I seem to remember Barnsley station looked like it was made from Lego.
It was the only dropped points in the last 8 games of that season. http://bsad.org/9899/reports/barnslya.html
If moderates aren't allowed why do you show moderation? We should be sacking managers and binning players if they don't win convincingly and entertain at least 97% of the fan base in every game. They should also be doing that when the team isn't even playing.
Maybe for more entertainment, Andre Gray should do jokes and card tricks in the Harlequin (yes, thts its name) and send them on Bebo. See, i’m in touch.
I’ve been there many times and the only one I can remember was it was called off when we arrived. We walked onto the frozen pitch and it was like concrete. A very long way to go for a ground tour. Think I’ve been to at least ten matches that were called off and hundreds where I wish it was.
I went to the last one at Oakwell and the thing that really stood out apart from Ikechi sprinting the length of the pitch to score number 5 was walking past 4 Gregg's pasty shops in what seemed to be about half a mile between the station and the ground.
With the wind making football a complete lottery today, and worse in Barnsley than here, I'm adjusting my prediction to; Barnsley anything Watford something.
Not too pleasant in Hoddesdon at present,I'm wetter than a haddock's bathing costume and no space in the bubble! Horrible out.
Your not closet bed wetter are you IBB? Your one of the most stable people on this forum and we all know how cool you are.
Yes but are you counting the champ as one of the "lower divisions "? Often favours the underdog - not sure which of us that would be ? Having nightmares about Ivic "sticking to principles" and Cathcart and Kaba trying to pass it out of the back, whilst Barnsley forwards swarm around them, and Sarr and Pedro shelter from the wind and rain behind the oppo goalposts.
We went to South Shields once and there were two branches of Greggs right next door to each other. They like a lukewarm savoury pastry up north...
Kabs and Quina out Wilmott and Chalobah in. Gray and Hughes on the bench. https://twitter.com/WatfordFC?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author
