Well by all accounts we were very close to signing him before from Liverpool. The guy is absolute class, ok he's had his problems but nothing compared to some. Fame got to his head like it's done to many others. It would be an absolute joy watching him in a Watford shirt. Would you rather see Minty hobbling around or Super Mario?

 

Thing is, one will cost substantially more than the other and they would likely play the same amount of minutes anyway - minimal.

 

Yes cost wise I agree. But Super Mario is 7 years younger and still has something to offer. Unfortunately what I've seen of Murray so far is backing up my initial thoughts about him.

 

What does Ballotelli still have to offer? A fit, focussed Ballotelli is obviously head and shoulders better than any central striker we have - but the gamble is huge. And we aren't in a position to make big gambles...

Is it a massive gamble financially if DeeKnee and Welbeck move on? Nobody even knows what kind of contract would be offered.

Don’t get me wrong, on ability alone, then of course I would take him. If it happened, I’d welcome him and give him a chance to replicate his best.

I’m just very unsure that the baggage he brings can be left in the past and I think it’s not a risk worth taking with the club in the situation it is.

But getting a quality striker, while we are in this situation, will be incredibly difficult. Proven etc doesn’t come cheap and we can’t afford it - so we need to take a risk on someone it’s fair to say.

 

It will be fun if we get Super Mario whatever happens.
