This derby is so red hot that even though there are no fans it has to be moved to an early kick off. Presumably there is concern from the plod that L*ton fans are still going to turn up in Watford. Could've just put on another couple of vans rather than moving the whole game, one would've thought...
I've also heard they aren't keen on coming down as they'd end up breaking The Rule Of Six and they deeply care for their neighbours.
If they really thought there was a problem surely just move it to 9.30am and be done with it? 12.30 doesn't really solve anything with no crowd going anyway.
I don’t think their usual attendance figures are in any danger of threatening government guidelines on permissible gathering sizes
Good. Now if one of the channels will be so kind to put it on and save us from listening to Tommy Mooney again, we’ll be good as gold.
I know i'm in the minority, but this just feels like any other game to me. I mentioned on the other thread, but I've been following Watford since the Rodgers season & never seen us play them. Unlike most people on here I grew up in south herts, so I've never even met a Luton fan, never mind actually know one. My whole experience of the Luton rivalry is singing songs about them. I think i'd feel very differently if i'd have been going along to it like normal, but when it's not even on TV it just feels like any other game...
A derby so fierce that even without fans being allowed in the ground it has to be moved back to midday. Meanwhile, your Liverpool - Man Utds and Spurs - Arsenals get the Friday night/late Sunday afternoon kick offs. Genuinely proud.
Some magazine rated UK rivalries once and this one was considered worse than any, with the exception of Swansea v Cardiff.
Oddly enough, I'm from a small village just 10 mins by car from Luton. I've lived there most of my life, yet have only ever met 1 Luton fan (if you could even call him that). I find the rivalry difficult to relate to as it's only the 2nd time in my Watford-supporting life that we have played eachother. Still hope we batter them though haha.
The police probably have had some in-tell than some of the knuckle dragging scummers are going to be coming to Watford on the day to possibly cause trouble even though they can't watch the game.
Probably. However, I’m not sure what difference moving the KO time is in that instance....surely those trouble makers will just come a bit earlier? Normally it’s moved to stop fans getting tanked up in pubs before heading the the ground. But in the era of ‘no fans allowed in’ and Wetherspoons opening at 9am, I’m not sure what difference moving the KO time is? Unless it’s a matter of police resources.
They already have a bad reputation, can you imagine the fall out if they create fan trouble when no fans are allowed?
What's their backup plan now that their train tickets are non-refundable? The logical move would be to take the trusty ol' 321 Arriva bus from Luton to Watford. However, I doubt that lot can read so god knows where they might end up. St Neots perhaps? Biggleswade maybe?
How kind! I can see them now queueing at the station, a collection of Danny Green lookalikes, in the original 'The Ladykillers'. "Are we supposed to make noises wiv these fings?" "Not noises One Round, music". I doubt they'll have cellos. Ah the 321,my first route to VR,when I was allowed to go on my own.
Yaaaaay, the guy who doesn't care about football to lecture the squad on the importance of the derby!
We need to form a group to go protect the hornet statue near Mcdonalds. Or potentially the GT statue. Imagine that.
one of 'their' laptops? what are you on about? they will just nick one from the harlequin. would be funny watching them try to turn it on though, a bit like watching man make fire for the first time i bet.
What I don't get is why moving it from 3pm to 12:30pm would stop it? Do they think the scummers are now going to call the lads and say "Chaps, soz, can't make Watford away, i'm having "lunch" with my 2nd cousin at 12 so will be hard pushed to make the meet time"?
I can only think that if there is any trouble they can have more time to move them on before they disappear into the evening crowd?
That would make sense if they were actually coming to watch the match, but as it's behind closed doors I don't see the difference it makes.
It is a bit bizarre to think that they would come down to cause trouble against no-one but shoppers who probably don't even support Watford? Not that I'm saying they won't, because they probably will, its just very strange. Hopefully most people in Watford will know about this and keep the kids at home for the day - or just away from town.
Trying to make sense of Luton fans' behaviour is a futile exercise I'm afraid. Vermin absolute ******* vermin.
