If he signs, that's some serious competition for Liverpool's front three now. Mané, Salah, Firmino, Minamimo and Jota. That's quite the attacking force. It doesn't beat Deeney, Ighalo, Vydra and Forestieri of 14/15 though
Doubt they paid much for him either. Good profit margins and all that. Edit- cost them 14 million, so this makes sense.
Well they use the Mendes model where we use the Pozzo model! Got to say, I don't think these journalists realise just how good Sarr is and how good he can become. Nothing "exorbitant" about our price tag.
By finished article, I mean he's further down the line in terms of experience than Sarr. With Sarr, Liverpool will probably feel he would need time before becoming a player who could guarantee changing a match from the bench or even being a regular starter. Jota would give them that instantly and this is why big clubs pay the big bucks. They don't want to wait for a player to greatly mature. Jota can regularly impact games now and has scope to improve further. There is a question mark over Sarr's ability to do this.....certainly if you're shelling out £40m+. If the board stand firm and are prepared to bat off lowball offers, then I'll change my opinion on how they're handling this window. However, if tomorrow they sell Sarr to United for around £35m, then it'll be hugely disappointing.
I don’t think Liverpool is a good move for Sarr, he needs to be playing, not a backup player. He would have a better chance of playing at Wolves or Man U who would pay more than Liverpool.
No doubt he is good But Sarr is probably a world beater - not guaranteed but i do guarantee that Jota will never win a balon d'or winner and Sarr - 50/50 IMHO
Very inconsistent, but when he’s on form he’s excellent. Reckon he’ll be great for a team like Liverpool.
Yeah. Completely agree. He is much better off staying with us this season. Nothing to do with the fact that Sarr could win us promotion on his own.
I’ve said it all along, so I’m going to be a self promoting jerk right now and I really don’t care. We won’t sell Sarr for less than £40mil. It’s always been stated that it would be in EXCESS of £40mil. We were never ever ever ever going to sell him for less. He might still go, if he does, by the looks of it, probably to United now, it will be for our largest ever transfer fee received. The Pozzo’s see him as a future £70/80mil player. That was common knowledge. They know they have a gem. If we get promoted back to the Prem this season and Sarr has an incredible season, that fee will be what the Pozzo’s will want. If we sell him to United this window, I will put it writing right now. It will be for something like £45mil + another £10/15mil in add ons. If I’m wrong, I fully except and expect all the abuse and I can take it. However I will be shocked if we don’t get a package deal worth around £55-60mil.
The only right-winger Utd would spend significant money on soon is Sancho. If not then I suspect they'd go for a short-term stop-gap until next summer, e.g. Bale, or take a cheap punt on another youngster, which won't be Sarr. While Sancho is still at Dortmund, Utd's no.7 shirt will be held in reserve for him possibly joining. Any mooted interest in Sarr will likely be a negotiation tactic for Sancho.
When they aren't quoting or rehashing other articles they aren't bad reliability wise. Not great, not terrible.
Just as a caveat before we get too excited, myself included. As mentioned before Duncan Castles has an outrageously good source at Watford, he has been speaking on this topic again on a podcast released this morning (but assume recorded earlier in the week). He confirmed Watford and Liverpool were some way apart in negotiations due to us not wanting to accept €40 mil (This has proved spot on). He goes on to say that Sarr and his agent reaffirmed this week that he wants to play in the prem this season and apparently we are happy to loan him out if someone is willing to pay a 10 mil loan fee and wages as long as no option to buy. Liverpool weren’t interested. He adds we are still hoping to make 75 mil in sales this summer , and that Hughes has interest from Southampton and Brighton but is stalling on a new contract. I know his source, and I don’t see any reason to lie on a topic I doubt any listeners care about. So let’s air some caution sadly until October 16th.
Not attacking you personally at all, but we can file this under made up regardless of what his source says. Hughes under went a medical procedure that will not see him begin training until the middle of October. With the procedure he had done, he wouldn’t pass a medical. He will then need at least a month to get his fitness up. By the time he’s match fit, we’re looking towards the end of November. No club is going to come in for him this window. Sarr has never been a priority to sell and was only ever going to leave if someone offered a lot more than what these reporters were reporting. Sarr is happy to stay at Watford as has been confirmed by himself. He is not actively seeking to leave and is not kicking up a fuss. We’ve already made £40-45mil this window. With the impending sales of Deulofeu, Pereyra, Welbeck, Dawson, Deeney, Capoue and a few fringe players, we will make over £80mil. We don’t want to do any loan deals unless they involve large loans fees. If we can’t ship the above out before the final week of the window, then loan deals will be considered more. It really is that obvious.
Is that how medicals work though? Surely an injury doesn't affect how you'd do in a medical unless it's a long-running thing?
I hope and am inclined to believe everything you’ve posted as it is all logical and backed up by everything we’ve seen this summer! Just playing devils advocate as I know one of his best friends is very high up at our club.
The procedure he went under wouldn’t allow him to even run on the treadmill, for a lack of a better term. It was a serious procedure that he had done. So he wouldn't pass part of the medical to check his vitals because he can’t do certain things at the moment.
I know and unfortunately with our board you never know. Money always talks regardless of what they say. Right now though, not a single club has even made a bid for Sarr.
If Hughes has 2+ years left on his deal, then we don't have to worry too much at this stage I guess, just keep him and try to tie him down afterwards. If he stays and we don't go up, he'd be one of the first ones they come calling for anyway
His source is Affleck isn’t it? At least that’s what I know of the situation. Worth noting that Castles said a lot of stuff regarding us last summer that didn’t happen. I agree we should urge caution mind you.
Don't they tailor medicals to the situation though? I mean, all those deadline day deals, they clearly don't have time to sort out an extensive medical for them!
I like reading your posts but you do state a lot of things as fact? The truth is, we can use best judgment but we can be nowhere near certain on any of that.
When a player has had what Hughes has had done, you can’t tailor make a medical. Most medicals on deadline day are done in house, hours before it hits the press. So what appears to be a deal done in an hour, has actually been taking place over hours.
Liverpool have reached an agreement on personal terms with Diogo Jota after quick contacts today with his agent Jorge Mendes. He’s ready to sign until June 2025. Negotiation progressing between #LFC and Wolves to complete the agreement [final fee could be around €43m]. #Jota https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1307028918864695296?s=19 This is progressing nicely
That’s all I’m doing, using my best judgement. I’m by no means ITK at all, but when I state things, I do it with confidence. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong and that’s ok. I would rather make a stand for something that I believe will happen, than be wishy washy with it. You’re right we don’t know, but we’re all smart enough to see how transfer windows work. The noise coming out of the club vs the noise in the press. Put those things together, and you will be right most of the time.
Wish i was! The thing that makes him special / marks him out is that he is not only fast / gifted but he is a unit - that body strength makes him more likely to go the way of Hazard / Salah - they are both v strong despite being quite short - Sarr has height as well- there is a chance that this boy could be very special indeed Jota is what he is - good but never going to be in a world 11 - Sarr just might
