The close-up of a beaming Capoue posted on the club's Twitter was put on there at 3pm today. https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/1298243982703489025
They don’t. It’s just incompetence from top to bottom. Squad management, managerial appointments, communications, control of expenses all woeful to varying degrees over the last 18-24 months.
Ok it's just that you'd said "better than the majority" which could mean anywhere 1st-12th best. I think as a midfield that looks very average for the champ. Big question marks over Chalo, Quina and the fitness of Clevs.
30 year-old Poland international Mateusz Klich? Plus, Kalvin Phillips is probably better than any of our CMs bar Capoue and Doucs. He was also a dedicated DM. He's not "experienced' at a higher level, but at 24 he's coming in to his prime.
Oh right, which makes the timing of the club's tweets either highly suspicious or hugely incompetent.
And been given plenty of football in the Championship to develop that way. No reason we can’t afford Hughes the same opportunity?
I think if you look at the midfield players of teams that finished near the top of The Championship last season that is a stronger midfield than the likes of Cardiff and Swansea and it is probably better than Brentford's as well without Benrahma who isn't likely to be at Brentford next season.
Kalvin Phillips. Came through the Leeds youth system. Just called up for England. Rightly or wrongly. But if he was any good, he'd have been poached by a big 6 club?
Gutted if he goes, Javi did turn him into a consistent player when he first took over and I can see why he would want to reunite with him.
There has been speculation about half our squad for weeks, but the first solid tweet I can see claiming this is a done deal was early evening
Supposedly Leeds rejected two bids of over £20mil for him last summer from PL clubs, which I can believe. Not clear who the clubs were, but Wolves and Spurs were considered as suitors. Had they not got promoted this season then he probably would have gone, but they were in a strong enough position to hold out a bit longer to have one more push at promotion.
I’m usually Mr Positive here but logged in tonight to read this thread and feel totally despondent. Really thought Capone was the one member of our Crown Jewels that we would keep. I thought he was happily settled in London too. If he goes, I wouldn’t bet against Dan Glazer being his replacement.
I never expected Caps to stay. The only way he would is if he couldn't be arsed to move house. I'd worry about his application in the champ. If he stayed, I think he'd drift about looking for Hollywood passes and shrugging his shoulders as keener midfielders sped past him. Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk
Glazer does look quite decent to be fair, probably hasn't got the same level as quality as Capoue but he has similar traits and is about 10 years younger. I wouldn't be against bringing in a player who already knows Ivic's style either.
I loved Capoue when he performed but, let's face it, he wasn't always interested in every game. I hate the thought of losing him but I suspect we lost him when we were relegated. If the EPL Capoue at his best were in the Championship he would rip the league a new one. But I would be surprised if he could find the motivation to perform at his best in the second tier tbh.
Oh yes....and another one. What about their Tweet showing Deulofeu doing his fitness work with the title 'back soon'.....when we all know he wont be.
For better or worse (usually worse), several of our Head Coaches under the Pozzos seem to have had a big influence in one or two signings despite the fact that’s not under their remit. I’d be surprised if Ivic doesn’t have a big say in at least one signing this summer, and Glazer could well be top of that list. There’s some chatter tonight about Isaac Hayden of Newcastle too.
It was posted originally on the Spanish Watford official Twitter page (Watford Español). Then picked up by the English one saying 'back soon' above it.
He was. But the conversation was framed around ‘experienced’ CM’s. Phillips isn’t that. And if people want to claim he is, then we can say the same about Hughes.
That Spanish account also tweeted the pics of Suarez training - then swiftly deleted it. Our communications are a mess. That much is clear.
It's not a mess. It's very deliberate. Someone is having a big laugh at our expense. Don't you think it was odd two photos of Capoue laughing, instead of a training one. Clearly the intent was to show how happy he was at Watford, then the bombshell has maximum impact. Even if none of this is remotely true, the coincidences are mounting up and fans are becoming very distrusting of the club and their motives, which in itself is very damaging for fans to even think this way.
Well that was only one part of it. But anyway, Kalvin Phillips had played 130 times in the Championship *before* the start of last season. He was clearly experienced at that level. The other part that you're ignoring is the need for physicality. Hughes is niggly and quite good at breaking up play but him, Chalobah and Quina is a physically weak midfield three, and not particularly dynamic.
I haven’t ‘ignored’ anything. I’ve stated across many posts tonight that Capoue would be a miss and need replacing in some manner. As for the first part, Chalobah and Hughes are experienced at that level too. But we are digressing.
