Why is Deeney STILL untouchable?

But you’re missing the point. Deeney has offered nothing since the restart - the worst that could have happened by playing someone else was they also produced nothing. We literally could no worse by trying.

So you have to ask why has he been picked? And it’s not because he’s been better than we are giving him credit for - we all have eyes. The only excuse that I can find at all, is because he’s captain.

You can kid yourself that you think he’s a good player still. Don’t mean it personally, but I think that’s delusion and nostalgia for what he used to be.

I don't. I don't think any of them are on a consistent basis. I have posted his stats previously, you may not have seen them. Started 36 games for us, scored 14.
In my opinion, a front 3 of Welbeck, Gray, and Sarr would've given us more forward impetus than hoofing it to Deeney or asking Deeney to keep up when we break.

If you were coaching young strikers Deeney would be in the video of how not to lead a line. Fat useless bustard insists on playing himself instead of doing the decent thing and stepping aside.

I'm firmly of the view he's been poor since the restart. I'm of the view that all of the squad, Hughes aside, have been poor since the restart.

I agree to some extent . The problem with Gray is although he is very quick
he cannot gain or keep possession of the ball well and would be reliant on the
other 2 to feed off. The principle of your front 3 is sound just 33% of the personnel
    needs adjusting !.

Deeney has been poor for longer than just the restart.

This is a thread discussion about Deeney. Saying the rest of the squad have been poor isn’t a defence for Deeney.

They've all been poor all season in all honesty. Like I said, our whole forward line has been poor all season and has delivered less than last season. You might not like it but we have been more effective with Deeney than without.

Neither could Deeney this season tbf. The number of times it just bounced off his chest was more than I'd seen from him before. There would be times when Gray would miscontrol too, dont get me wrong, but I think the no. of chances would increase in the box overall with them 3 in my opinion, thus allowing an opportunity to score more goals in open play. The opposition defence would be stretched more. Something we have been lacking.

Also at Liverpool Mane and Salah have Ferminio dropping off to make the head of a MF diamond
when out of possession. However he is a quality footballer who is mobile and has the pace to get
forward to link up with the other 2 .

    He's been poor yes.

Saying "he makes me sick" is just disgusting. Too far.

It’s not a case of what I ‘like’ or ‘don’t like’.

Gray has not been given a chance since the restart and neither has Joao Pedro. Welbeck has been shunted out to the wing. All to accommodate a player who hasn’t been near the races, let alone at them. And is clearly not fit and in need of an operation. Those are facts, not opinions.

Your attempts to square that circle is that Gray didn’t do much before lockdown in essence. Because Joao Pedro was still sidelined and Welbeck was injured.

It’s not as if anyone else has been given a run to see has it?

Yeah, they were before lockdown. And when Deeney was injured. That seems to be the basis for the defence of Deeney, which wilfully ignores everything that’s happened since.

Imo, the primary reason Deeney has been untouchable is that he is the Captain. What saddens me is that no one else in the side has been willing to step up to the plate, taken the Captain responsibility, and motivated the players enough on and off the pitch to put on a good show. If they had done them things, the positive performances meant we wouldn't have missed Deeney, and there would no insistence from the Managers to play him every week.

If Chalobah didn’t look a pale shadow of the player he was, I backed him as a new captain option after the cup final. But not now.

Hughes is the obvious option. Or sign someone with leadership qualities whilst grooming someone like Wilmot for the role (has been mentioned as a player with those qualities before) in the future.

Hughes don't look captain material to me. Too quiet. The penalty against him, no complaining to the ref showing some passion.

He was out injured until November so there has been plenty of games without him.

If Welbeck is fit he should be our centre forward. If Deeney starts relegation is guaranteed.

    Four managers?

    Or one Giraldi?

Grey leaves us all frustrated if he’s isolated because the ball bounces off him like a pinball, the Chelsea game sticks in my mind, just awful. However if he played all season and was mostly able to play in and around the box with support from the wings I reckon he would’ve provided an acceptable goal return from open play.

There could be a correlation between rotating more and being more successful.

Pretty sure there is a correlation between hoofing to a old gammy knee'd wavy arms #9 and relegation if it helps?

Hahahahahahahahahaha go read this and the replies to brighten your day.

    Here’s one chessnut and I quote;

“If Deeney comes to Spurs - It would be really benificial for us!
    - Deeney can hold the ball up.
    - He is as good as Erriksen **In terms of creating Goal scoring Chances.
    - He can deliver fine passes to No. 10 and also to Wingers.
    - He can Shoot well.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Get Levy on the phone now. Spurs fans are willing to spend £10-15mil on Deeney.
