Sarr's goal today was outstanding from him from start to finish.

He's a long way behind play and only just outside our box, sees the break is on and moves to sprint, breaks the sound barrier, streaks into the box and volleys the ball in.

    Simply excellent.

Heard on talksport that this was the first time that we'd ever kept 3 clean sheets at home in a row in our history. Surely they mean Premier League history?

C'mon Filbert! So glad West Ham are losing too.

A terrible, terrible day for the bed-wetters. Deeney inspiring a thoroughly deserved win. Pearson showing he is the man for the job. Pozzo’s showing they were right to smash their transfer record on Sarr.

How Grealish remained on the pitch is a joke. The little turd should have been sent off.

Really great team effort. Deserved to be ahead at the break

Initial concern we'd throw it away after sending off was quickly banished. Villa completely ran out of ideas despite throwing men forward. I honestly don't remember feeling so relaxed with only 10 men.

IF we play like that for the rest of the season we will stay up, but there is still a big gap to mid table and we still have a lot of hard work to do.

Indeed. There is still a mountain to climb, but at least we are at base camp and no longer wearing flip flops.

I’m probably going to get some stick for pointing out some negatives but here goes. I think we managed well with 10 men because we took Chalobah off who is generally a passenger anyway and often creates more problems than he solves. Deeney contrived to miss an absolute sitter, and then did his best to miss another absolute sitter. He also only won the penalty because the only way he could beat their offside trap with his lack of pace, was to take advantage of their injured player playing him onside.

It was a great win, but Villa are an extremely poor team and Deeney won’t get that sort of luck in many more games this season. We still need to try and get better striking options in if we are to kick on from here.

No harm in being negative, this forum loves it! I am still bemused myself. Quina has to start against Wolves. That was another slog from him. I think Deeney getting the goals today might do him more of a confidence boost.
He knows his limitations, he even said today in Post Match on five live that he knows he's a big lad.

Read the link earlier in the post by HB1. They posted some comments from us on the forum and basically called us morons.

Well if they lose we are three points behind them, so given a massive goal swing, if we win and they lose their next game and villa also lose we *could be out of the relegation zone.

*I say could because it’s theoretically possible but of course it’s not actually possible.

True, but Gino’s still mulling whether to bother hiring Sherpas or just go for a bloke from Udinese who once saw a picture of a mountain.

Bold move by Pearson taking Chalobah off. Shows he doesn’t care if he upsets a few if it gets the job done.

We worked our socks off today. Doucoure and Capoue were outstanding and when they click it’s like having an extra player in there.

I liked seeing Hughes playing a bit deeper and pulling the strings...when he went off I thought it would hurt us.

    Fans 10/10

This is the fired up Deeney we want and need in every game, not just against the Villa.

That said I think Big Troy's performances are key to us staying up and hoping the big man keeps it up, which I think he will!

Hard to believe these are the same players that were looking so weak and apathetic and uncommitted in the early part of the season and with QSF. Don't want to get too carried away in the post-match euphoria, but got a feeling that appointing Pearson and Shakespeare may be a really important turning point in our premier league history...

    Must win,did win.
Great save by Foster, poor keeping twice by Heaton for the first, which was helpful as he's usually excellent against us.
Capoue outstanding,Sarr not far behind. Everyone else 8/10.
Grealish was not worthy of booing as he was so mediocre. Soppy tart should spend less time on the sun bed and more time keeping his shin guards up,he'll get hurt.
Happy Yew Near,as Frank Bough would have it!

I get the feeling in all the clips and interviews etc I’ve seen Nige is desperate for Chalobah to come good, and is doing everything in his managerial ability to try and inspire him to turn things around.
