As long as we play a different line up we have a chance. Play the same pathetic excuse of a team who crapped themselves' Saturday gone and we will lose for sure. Look back to last season, we got played off the park by Muff at the Vic, lost 4-0, it was pouring down with rain all day. Went home and felt awful. Then we went to Wolves, scored two goals in the space of five minutes, and suddenly the Muff game was forgotten. Can lightning strike twice? Can we really go there again, put in a five star performance and make us all love them again? No. Its more or less the same side still, but confidence wasn't in the toilet due to the start we had. I want us to win, and get some confidence back, but in reality our second string has more chance of beating Swansea on Tuesday than our first team full of Jokers has at getting a result at Wolves. But - would so loved to proved wrong. I commented when will we get our first win and who from? It won't be this game either. 0-2
I remember when we had Scott Loach in goal, our own fans shouting "shoot" to the opposition when they had the ball . We have laughed many times at our own players. This current bunch deserves the same. I don't think it bothers them at all.
Gallows humour - although stringing the buggers up after last Saturday is surely taking things too far - a simple draw and quarter would suffice.
I think it's more laughable that they think we'll last 82 minutes without conceding. Or was that supposed to be 8.2 minutes?
Nath , chill out a bit. Get drunk, laid or whatever you do to relax , life’s too short for getting so worked up.
Positive thinking, our results will now get better. Due to various reasons I have only made it to one PL game so far this season, our good performance against Arsenal. I will be attending our next 6 games and expect our results to be good as I am the lucky charm. As I said Positive thinking, not fact based
I don't think there are that many happy clappers Nath. Who am I missing seeing. Reaction to the last game was either anger or disappointment and every emotion in-between. Some were more positive at the seasons start, some more negative but most people seemed grounded in realism?
I can't imagine Wolves being hugely confident and the pressure will be on them as the home team to produce a decent performance and get their first league win of the season. I am hoping that Saturday will see a change of fortunes and surely the players will feel that they owe us one after City. The next couple of games could make or break the season as I don't see us getting anything at Spurs so we need at least 4 points from the next two to keep us in touch. Facts and stats should make me worried but I still feel we will be ok. I think it's fair to say we won't see a repeat of the line up from Saturday, maybe back to 4-2-3-1. I very much doubt Foster will be dropped but I would certainly change the full backs and also bring Kabasele back in for Mariappa. I know Saturday was horrific but I would give the rest of the team a chance to redeem themselves Foster Janmaat Dawson Kabasele Masina Capoue Doucoure Delefeou Cleverley Pereyra Sarr
I think we need to give Sarr a chance. We know what Gray can do but he seems more suited to being used a sub. I felt that Sarr was just beginning to settle in when he came on vs Arsenal
I love the fact that we are already putting Sarr in one of his secondary positions. ‘Desperate for a winger’ people said all summer. Get one, play him up front. Don’t get me wrong. We are told he can play there and he may be better than what we have there. Just tickles me that’s all!
Or drop Doucoure which is frankly overdue. Cleverley can drop back, Pereyra play No.10 and Sarr on the wing. Or swap GD and Sarr around. My post wasn’t a suggestion that I disagree with what you or other have suggested. Just I find it quite funny that we are already talking of playing him in a secondary position and not his favoured one. My personal opinion would be for Deulofeu and Sarr to play quite freely and swap between the wing and striker roles as needed. Ultimately I think the club have to find a way to get Welbeck fit.
Absolutely this, he's been notably poor for a long time. For me I'd like to see Chalobah come in for him and actually give him a chance to get his career back on track. Seems ridiculous but he turns 25 in three months. If he doesn't start seeing minutes sharpish this year, there's no way he won't be looking for a move to actually make an attempt at playing some football in the course of his career. Now is the perfect time to do it, because if we're talking about playing favourites, Doucoure is possibly the worst example as it stands, and yet escapes most notice.
Agree with everything except dropping Doucoure. He has been off form for some time but we judge him by higher standards than others given what we know he can do. I'd prefer to see him on the teamsheet. I don't think club believes Chalo can be 100% right given the lack of involvement.
The thing that was left out in history lessons was that, between hanging and drawing-and-quartering, came castrating.
Does anyone know what exactly is wrong with Welbeck? I saw a video a little while back of him running on a treadmill and he looked pretty much up to speed. Has he twisted something or is he just not right for QSF's current setup?
Gomes Janmaat - Kabasele - Dawson - Masina Doucoure - Capoue Sarr - Pereyra - Deulofeu Welbeck We can't defend anyway, so lets take the game to the opposition
Left back is a huge problem for us now. I've tried to be positive at times with Masina and consider that he's capable of improvement, but it appears he put in yet another typical horrible performance last night. Meanwhile, Holebas is finished at this level and also just a liability. We're going to keep shipping goals down that side until January, whatever we change tactically. Perhaps we could try Cathcart or Kabasele there? But then that would mean having to play another one of our sub-par CBs and so shipping goals from there instead.
GD takes the corners for the team so that's no excuse. Alternatively ship Welbeck off to the MLS for big bucks.
I agree, not only is CB a problem, LB is also now a big issue. Masina just hasn’t got it I’m afraid. When we signed him I thought he’d be really decent for us, but he’s not even a viable option as back up. The ease in which Swansea players were passing the ball around him was there for all to see. Completely exposed when Swansea played a simple ball in behind him for their goal and this isn’t a one off. He’s always caught out like this. Had we signed Rose then I think he was set to go out on loan to an Italian club, so clearly he’s not really in the club’s thinking anymore. Other options of Zeegelaar or Foulquier are even worse. The only short term measure that might be worth looking at is playing Dawson or Mapps at RB and playing Janmaat on the left. These players are not great and would be playing out of position, but at least they are “real”defenders , not converted strikers or wingers.
Perhaps naive of me but I’d like to see Masina given a run of games and not just 1 or 2 and then taken out each time. It can’t be doing his confidence much good and I think that might be a contributing factor. I admit he looks nothing better than average but I think Holebas is finished completely. Last year was his Indian Summer in my eyes and I’m also cautious that Masina has had 3 weeks paternity leave so was always likely to look rusty last night. I agree we need a new LB but I’d rather persevere with Masina until we get one. Last night also showed me that Kabasele alongside either Dawson/Cathcart has to be what we go with until January at least (still not convinced we will source decent defenders in January). Any other CB’s at the club should be used in emergencies only.
Based on yesterday: 4-2-3-1 Gomes Janmaat - Kabasele - Prodl - Holebas Capoue - Hughes Pereyra - Cleverley - Welbeck Sarr
It's time for Quina to play in the league. Every game. Don't care who's left out to accommodate this.
