I agree. We don't really need anyone performing in the middle of the pitch if we get it right at both ends of the pitch. For this reason; Foster Janmaat-Cathcart-Kabasale-Dawson-Holebas - Pereyra-Deulofeu-Gray-Welbeck-Sarr.
Playing in green. Because no one realised a half black kit with navy as an away choice was too similar. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/news-all-green-newcastle-away
4-2-3-1 Foster Janmaat Mapps Kabasele Masina Capoue Quina Sarr Pereyra Deulofeu Gray Subs: Bachmann, Cathcart, Kiko, Doucoure, Welbeck, Hughes & Holebas
With Arsenal and Man City after the break we could do with points ! Doesn't sound like there will be many changes from last weekend but surely Janmaat will play and maybe Sarr. ?
I think it's cos of the speed of our central defenders. When they run, it's just a blur of blistering pace and raw energy. At that speed it's almost impossible for the referee to distinguish between navy and zebra. The ref would need VAR just to know which player had touched the ball.
Would've been the perfect time to reintroduce the iconic red shorts Oh well, can always rely on Watford to **** it up somehow!
Gray to start for me , good scoring record in pre-season plus our only league goal so far. Sarr, Deulofeu and Pereyra around him, plenty of pace and trickery, suited to both counter attack and if on top. Peneranda now has to be on the bench, ride the wave of confidence of that goal, plus easier to pick him now ahead of more established players by saying ‘look what he did’. Welbeck also as sub and that’s 2 potential game changers, again both fairly well suited to counter attack and when on top. No success. The player I mean, not the outcome. Don’t need to discuss the defence, they know what there’re doing.
could be a way to get Troy into the box in time to get on the end of a cross. shoot him out of a canon!!
My understanding is that he drinks a pint of absinthe with a quadrouple tequila chaser b4 each podcast and that Harry the Hornet is his pre-podcast fluffer.
Sacked in the morning, you’re getting sacked in the morning, sacked in the morning! The away fans sing loud and proud. Just joking, we’re going to win comfortably. We’re too good to go down. Newcastle are pony bruv. Steve Bruce, you’re havin’ a laugh. Newcastle 1-4 Watford
I shall update the tennis thread. I'm very worried about today. I can't find my pencil sharpener now!
I feel strangely optimistic about today . I have absolutely no reason for this but I hope this might be the turning point . There’s been a lot of positive messages and it’s clear the defending needs to be worked on do hopefully there will. Be improvement shown today . Wouldn’t mind seeing Janmaat and possibly Kabasele coming in to freshen thins up a bit . I Expect he may play a similar side to West Ham apart from that though . COYH !
All you people demanding Javi MUST change something can finally chill out. Javi concurs there we need to change something: https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/gracia-we-need-change-something And this article in the Watford Observer confirms the change: https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/17872245.watford-will-wear-green-away-kit-newcastle-united/ Happy now?
I'm reserving judgement until (insert clueless pundit here) makes a prediction. I think it's best we all do the same.
I'm not one for making predictions, but God forbid if we lose this one, we could genuinely lose 7 on the bounce at the start of this season. 0 points at the end of September would be scary.
Given the parlous state of the defence we need to play on the counter. Newcastle are not going to be able to play the same way as they did at New White Hart Lane. Their fans will not tolerate it either. ---------------------------------------------Foster---------------------------------------------------- ------------------Mariappa-----------Cathcart-----------------Kabasele-------------------------- Janmaat-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Masina----- -----------------------Doucoure-----------------Capoue----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------Pereyra------------------------------------------------------ ----------------Sarr-----------------------------------------------Deulofeu------------------------ Subs: Dahlberg, Penaranda, Holebas, Gray, Hughes, Cleverley, Quina/Welbeck. Some incentive has to be provided to those that played well on Tuesday and a warning to others complacency will not be tolerated. Defensively get Capoue to sit on Almiron and one of the back three to also close that space infront of the defence. Man mark Joelinton with one of the other 2 centrebacks when he plays in their area. Sarr and Deulofeu will have to tuck back and I expect Pereyra to work hard in the front press. Attacking wise Janmaat to break forward whenever the opportunity presents itself and offer Sarr space and options. He also has a good understanding with Pereyra. Doucoure likewise but Capoue to remain as an anchor and supplementary defender. Masina to offer Deulofeu width when he can but I would also prefer him to be more defensively minded and tuck in. Pereyra and Deulofeu can work as a unit. Gray a replacement for Deulofeu or Sarr and Hughes in his best position as one for Pereyra.
I’d go with more protection in front of a changed back 4, and pace on the counter. I don’t think it’s a day for flair / luxury players like Pereyra Foster Jaanmatt. Cathcart. Kabasele. Holebas Cleverly. Doucoure. Capoue Sarr. Gray. Delefeou
Chalobah has posted ‘Game Day’ on his Instagram which would suggest he’s at least in the squad. Showed more of his former self in the 2nd half midweek and maybe it’s time the club showed a more concentrated effort to getting him back to fitness (if possible...I know certain people think it’s not).
