Losing to a team that’s struggling and is managed by Rafa Benitez is one thing. Losing to another that is managed by Mark ‘Doubtfire’ Hughes is quite another. 0-2 edgy win and we go again. End off. We’ve got top top players, but no finishers. Etc etc. PS. Holebas booked.
Ah, you've noticed that, too. That's the trouble with old people - nothing but trouble. The daffs just get caught up in all this.
I have watched Southampton a few times this season and they have looked terrible certainly one of the worse 3 sides in the premier league. They play a 4-4-2 with no real cutting edge and it all looks a bit flat. I usually go into games as a bit of a pessimist but I am full expecting us to win this. We battered Newcastle and should have scored half a dozen I just hope the lads have been working on their finishing this week.
Southampton seem a poor side, but arguably not quite as poor as Newcastle. We may see a fair bit of football, but very few goals at either end. Is it true they have only won one game at home in the last year?
This is correct. They beat Bournemouth 2-1 on 28th April 2018. Their only other home win was when they beat us 1-0 in the FA Cup on 27th January 2018. Their last home win before that in the Premier League was 4-1 against Everton on 26/11/17, nearly a full calendar year ago. Since that Everton win, their home EPL record reads like this: P16 W1 D 8 L7 F 13 F 24 Pts 11
They actually play more of a 4-5-1 but curiously insist on Shane Long playing as a winger rather than a second striker. If you take a brief look at their forum, one of their main gripes about Hughes is that he hasn’t actually got a bad bunch of strikers, he just insists on playing only 1 of them and another out of position often.
Lets hope they dont appoint a new one before Staurday , otherwise we ll be sibject to the "New Chairman Bounce "
Eihter their fans will be happy, WFC fans will be happy or both sets of supporters will be "meh" about the result.
Hughes will send his players out to wind up Holebas and Deeney , he will be in the forth officials ear until we see a red card and then grind out a 1-0 win. Sounds familiar Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bit worried that Southampton have two of the classic "generally crap players that always play well against Watford" description. Long and Redmond will both score then revert to being rubbish for rest of the season.
Well we will definatley get something out of it, but not sure if it will be three points or humiliation We should win, but we should have won last week. My prediction 0–3 , Hughes sacked, Southampton try to to poach Javi , unlike the snake Javi responds straight away with **** off i am watford
You just know it. 30 yarder from Lemina as well. His only ever goal in EPL despite going on to accrue 1000 caps in a unprecedented 25 year career. Gabbiadini and Boufal also net against the club they nearly played for.
Look how much crap they have bought in recent times, no wonder they are in the brown stuff! https://stmarysmusings.sbnation.com...-osvaldo-sofiane-boufal-guido-carrillo-gaston
I'm generally unusually pretty confident about this one. You can focus on last week's missed opportunities and I have for a while, but every team at some point has a game like that. Even the best teams have off days where no matter how much they're on top they just can't hit the barn door. What I do like about us compared to previous seasons is that we are showing a remarkable consistency in performances week to week. In the Flores, Mazzarri and Silva reigns, despite the good starts you could see flaws and we got very lucky in a lot of games we should have lost. This season so far we consistently perform week to week from front to back and, although Newcastle anomalies (and Fulham) will happen, we continue to play with a definitive style and energy combined with a vast amount of skill. I don't think we should dwell on Newcastle at all. It should be a good weekend.
I’m going to this one (my first ever Southampton trip). Really hope we can get sonething and I think we will. Please Gracia don’t pick Holebas, he’s going to get booked then offer Mark Hughes outside of the dugout for a punch up at half time. I’d stick with Mapps and keep Success up top for more confidence. If we change mid game then (if he’s fit) bring Deeney on when he tires. No Capoue so Chalobah? Move Hughes back in to a his more natural position and keep the pressing game and we should at least grab a point or three. Has anyone been to Southampton? Are there any sites or places of interest to visit?
Only if you like counting shipping containers or getting lost in vast multi storey car parks, and IKEA. Desperate place. Always enjoy football there, though.
The Isle of Wight ferry, (when they're not running them aground, (Red Funnel)). The university is quite nice too.
The type of game we tend to lose, that being said Mark Lawrenson has predicted a Saints win so it has filled me with a bit of confidence. 1-1
Could really do with a win tomorrow with Liverpool, Leicester and Man City up next, followed by the grudge match at Goodison.
