We all knew the annual collapse was on the horizon We don't have a striker who can score goals, 50% of our defence and midfield is one shoulder barge away from an injury and the other 50% are walking red cards
I don't know what to do anymore. There is actually points where I feel I should stop watching football. The worst thing is, we let those cunnts at Selhurst do it to us
Same as Everton. Comfortable for 89 minutes then somehow chuck it all away. The sequence leading to the red card - Holebas hitting the first man for genuinely the fifth time in a row then Cleverley almost missing the ball but actually spinning it backwards to lead a Palace counter was superb. So much promise and hope and it's all been sapped away by a combination of horrendous luck and no bottle defensively. You'd struggle to find a club do what we've done against Everton and Palace in five seasons, let alone ten games, I just give up. As deflated as you can get, the only positive may be Silva's reputation diminishing enough to keep him, even that is clutching at straws
Same, I'm not going on Saturday now, I just need to take time away. Everton I got over in time, Burnley and now Palace is enough for me for a little while.
So yet again our complete ill-discipline comes back to haunt us. This theme has been going on throughout the Pozzo years and no head coach has got to grips with it. Even before the red card that game had last minute equaliser written all over it. That we contrived to lose it was a special kind of effort though. Silva ain't worth £10m tonight.
7 mins left to see out the game. 7 bloody minutes. I thought the yellow for Van ******** was about right. Not enough for a red, but a nasty and very painful foul. I wonder if Hodgson had picked up on Pererya's timidness after injury and instructed their players to rake him. I quite understood Pererya kicking him back at the first opportunity. I reckon it would have been a bit harder if it'd been me. Cleverley was an absolute tool to get himself sent off. Twice in the last two games we've had a sending off when the ball's 70 yards from our goal. That combined with Rich seemingly straining his groin was the turning point in the game. So now for Saturday, Cleverley, Zeegelaar, Richarlison, Femenia, Pererya would all seem either definitely or probably out.
We will not get anywhere with Deeney back in the side. We play better as a team with Gray - fact. Deeney is a great impact sub - that is all now. Why go defensive against Palace? If you go defensive against anyone in the premier league you will get punished. Wake up silva!
The player who stood out for me today for the wrong reasons was Holebas. I lost count of the times he basically frittered a promising position on the left into nothing by trying to do something beyond his level of ability. We need much much better than him even as back up.
We couldn't have been more in control before the red. Just like when Gomes went off at Everton we failed to adjust, the opposition smelt fear and we completely shat the bed. Pathetic really.
I think the inexperience of our manager and some of the players is showing. We should have won that at a canter. I made the mistake of checking the shoutbox. Did someone really say that this is a new low in 30 years? Come on. It's disappointing. We should have 7 points instead of 1 out of the last 3 games. But we still have a team that is one or two players and a some experience from being great. Let's not over react.
There is something wrong. We had the game in control before the red and a red card that late shouldn't have too much impact. Silva has the rest of the season to sort this out but at the moment we seem to have no mental strength and little ability to take chances. Game after game we get results we "don't deserve", but there has to become a point when you get more points. How they don't get a red I don't know - but we can't blame the ref for this.
Capitulation. Complete capitulation. We're now getting into a seriously bad habit of conceding in the last 5-10 minutes of a game now and for me, that falls on Silva. He's too cautious now and needs to be bolder with his substitutions. I know we're missing Hughes, Chalobah and one or two others but with the squad we have we need to be winning some of the games we've thrown away and we also have Okaka who would be an excellent 3rd choice as a striker. The feel good buzz we had a month or two ago is now dead, replaced by nervy anxiety. For Cleverley, I think an enforced rest will do him good. He's not been poor but he's not like he was earlier in the season and that's due to being over worked. The same could be argued with Doucoure and Richarlison. They will tire if not rested once in a while no matter who you are or will pick up muscle injuries. Speaking of which, Femenia on and off. Rushed back and paid the price. Again, that falls on Silva. We aren't in a bad way but we need to address these warning signs sooner rather than later. Silva has to sort out why we tire after 60 minutes and accomodate this. New defenders, a replacement for Okaka and perhaps another quality midfielder to help with effective rotation of the squad. Don't blame the referee as for the most part he was solid and he couldn't not give a yellow for that tackle given they were breaking at pace. We have to look at ourselves. Palace fought back and although a win flatters them a draw for them given the way we played that 2nd half wasn't unreasonable.
Our first team over Christmas/new year looks like: Gomes Maps prodl kabs Holebas Watson Capoue Dacoure Richy Carillo Gray/Deeney I won’t be buying a ticket to watch the FA cup. Imagine the state of the team we’ll put out
No it's not. The problems we have now are the exact same as the problems we had before Everton started sniffing around.
We are a square of spineless pathetic cowards. On top of that playing Deeney is like having ten men. Absolutely useless as a footballer now. Sell him while he has any residual value whatsoever.
Yes, he was extraordinarily shyte today Holebas. Poor defending and I got fed up of seeing the supposed long throws straight onto the head of their defender and then hacked clear. Fed up of his dreadful set pieces and fed up of watching him standing there in their penalty area after another attempt to take on three defenders breaks down, stone still and throwing his arms up and going through his full amateur dramatic range whilst they go on the attack down the wing he's supposed to be bloody defending. Chase back you ****. Palace were pretty dreadful. They made error after error and we couldn't take advantage. They kept presenting us with the ball and we could do nothing with it. Look at when their keeper threw it straight out for a throw for example. Deeney's miss was horrific and also cost us the game. They wouldn't have come back from 2-0 down. Showed a real lack of sharpness and accentuated the need for a striker signing in Jan.
Looks like yet another season where I wished they sold half season tickets at the start of the season instead of after Christmas.
Just how I feel. We just pull down our pants and wiggle our little bottoms in the air time after time.
What a waste of time. Totally useless. Thank f**k the ski season is open. Takes my mind off the 5hit teeam we have become.
True enough. We have the same points at this time of the season as 86/87...oh... I don't think we'll go down - but I think it's clear we are going to under-perform to a large degree this season.
By the way... before people start kneejerking and blaming Silva, our defence, our disciplinary record etc. can we all just count to ten, take a deep breath and remember that when all is said and done... it was Deeney's fault
I agree. After so much promise, Watford suddenly look like a team in trouble. Why we just capitulate every season is really worrying. Eventually it will catch up on us and we wont survive. We finished the season under Flores as a relegation side, the same under Mazzarri, and this has the exact same feeling right now. Everyone has praised how well Watford have played, but I've seen every home match and have not been overly impressed at all. Now the away form has started to follow the home. The next four games are vital. Carry this form into those games and we'll get similar results. Our position in the table will be very different after that. No way should we be losing this sort of game from the position we were in. Good sides do not do this. We've lost the most points from winning positions than any other side this season. Our last 9 games, we've won 2 drawn 1 and lost 6. Only 7 points. Good job we got those last minute goals earlier on in the season or else we'd be in trouble right now. That free flowing Watford seems like a long time ago now. Yes, we do have problems.
