    What even longer aimless balls?

Where do I sign up to watch that?

  2. Fair point. But I think we were clearly second best in the game, and I think with the way things have been going, this is the point where we should have been demonstrating a bit of mojo, which was completely absent today.

We could start by putting some responsibility on the players doing it for:

    1. Being technically incapable of playing out from the back; or
    2. Bring too thick to take on tactical instructions; or
    3. Being too mentally weak to react well under pressure

If they can't adapt they should go first before the coach. If he goes with him goes the knowledge learned about who to bin.

I'm a Mazzarri supporter but the performance was dreadful today. We have to be honest about it. Southampton were utterly in control and could have won very comfortably.

This. Britos, Kaboul and Prodl can't bring the ball out so they lump it forward. Our midfield don't help half the time either.

The defending was truly embarrassing today, first two goals could have been avoided as result of bad clearances, the third was a horrific howler from Gomes and the fourth wasn't much better. We are making it so hard for ourselves.

    Like that's a surprise.

It's a bit pointless now to even discuss it, as it's obvious Mazzarri is not the right guy. I know some fans still think he's wonderful, but performances are getting worse and worse. Shambolic defending, giving far too much space to the opposition in areas where they can hurt us.

I was going to say our luck finally ran out, as I predicted earlier, but it didn't. Yet again we got a much better result than the performance deserved.

I was shocked to see how many had left by the time we scored the third goal.

47 goals conceded in 27 matches, only 3 wins in the last 15 games. It's nowhere near good enough.

I've been critical of Mazzarri, but I was always hopeful he'll prove me wrong......but today I've lost all faith.

I think the owners will keep faith until the end of the season, but I do not expect us to get to get past 40 points. Let's hope there are still 3 worse teams than us come May.

Please tell me what was thrilling about that? It was an utterly flat game, the number of goals give it an undeserved sheen of entertainment.

This is from Italian football expert James Richardson who, you may remember, presented Channel 4's cult show Football Italia. He clearly knows his onions when it comes to passing comment on Walter Mazzarri.

"He was abject at Inter," he said on The Guardian Football Weekly Podcast. "He blamed everyone but himself, continually got the formation wrong, played completely uninspiring football and the fans didn't miss him at all. I would be astonished if that is who Pozzo was going for. I would be truly worried if I was a Watford fan."

We should have listened to this guy ::)

The Pozzos are just not going to get rid of him so we have to accept it and hope there remains 3 worse teams in this league until the end of the season.

How many times are you going to post the same thing? It was a mildly interesting point the first time, but that's about the third or fourth time you've put the exact same comment up.

Not this season... We are way better off than the bottom 3 for points on the board and ability to score goals.

The time to sack him was during the transfer window. It is not worth doing now. We are 9 points clear with 11 games to go. Barring a run of 5 or 6 consecutive defeats he will survive. If the Pozzos really beleive during theclose season that he is worth retaining I will be amazed. Get the Joker back - he has been our best manager under the Pozzos.

Normally, I would agree however, I see nothing in the style of play to suggest Mazzarri wants players to play out from the back. I believe the defenders are under instruction to play the ball long and feed off knock downs.

If this wasn't the case, then you would see the players trying to retain possession and make their 'triangles' with movement to create space, even if it wasn't working you would see the principles in action time and again to impose that style of play.

So for me, regardless of who they sign, it'll be the same style of football.

I have no idea how anyone is happy with our performances. Im sick of "look at our position look at what we have achieved". Its irrelevant. the football is dire. I will tell u what will happen next game. first 5 minutes out the gates. tehn when we realise it aint working heads will drop and we will hoof it out from the back. in between which professional footballers who are paid more in a year than some earn in a lifetime wont be able to string two passes together. the opposition will pass the ball around and not worry cos they know our back four will sit it up for them. meanwhile maz will dance around saying something in italian that only he understands.at the end of the game he will feck off for a *** without saying sorri to the fans or waving or .....o whats the point.
I was a maz in fan until the middle of the huge slump that we went on that in my opinion we are still on. Its fecking awful to watch.

Last week it was the players fault for not doing what Walter says he tells them to do. This week it will be because the Southampton players were rather sneaky and did what their (new to the Premier League) head coach told them to do. I honestly think he will limp to the end of the season and into next, but I personally can't see him being our head coach in March 2018. Unless he has a step change next season. We are nearly a third through his three year deal, let's hope he does so well that he gets an extension.

I've been in the Mazarri out camp and haven't changed my opinion. They won't get rid of him now, but if he stays on next season, he will take us down. Terrible football, awful to watch, no gameplan, and players totally unable to do the basics like pass to a team mate. If they want another Italian in charge, get Ranieri in, in the summer.

Dreadful. The difference in quality, enthusiasm, passing, desire, movement, intelligence etc etc was huge today.

It is as if our 11 have never played together. If staying in the Prem means playing like Wimbledon used to then b0llox to it.

I'd have Slav back tomorrow and Doyley.

No. The last 2 games have been pretty awful though. If this carries on I can see me being in the Walter out camp by season's end. Some of our players are absolutely substandard. Some of our players are mentally weak. Would I trust Walter to be the rebuilding man? Not sure.

I remember the game and result that got Boothroyd the sack. We lost 4-3 at home to Blackpool........and that team back then reminds me very much of this one.

A good collection of players without any sort of direction whatsoever. We are just a shambolic mess. It didn't really matter how many goals we scored, Southampton were always going to score one more. Our defence is utterly hopeless and midfield is constantly out battled.

I am very worried as to where those extra few points are going to come from. Of the 11 games we have left to play, how many are against teams as disorganised as us?
