Exactly and to listen to TV pundits you would think they are the new messiahs of football totally ignore the big picture behind the scenes.
Agreed, defending was quite good from him. Looks a decent full back actually. Wouldn't mind him playing left back if we go for 4-3-3 again as he still provides lots of width and pace going forward.
Slept on it. Still pi $$ ed off. Had been looking forward to the game all week and it was ruined by an incompetent referee after 26 seconds. I thought that up until the penalty we battled well but the goal took away the hope of hanging on for a point. The change at half time was a bad decision. I thought Munari was playing well, but Pudil was always going to struggle as he's out of form and gets drawn to the ball too easily forgetting that he has left the winger on his own. Howe obviously told his players to double up and overlap Pudil at every opportunity and it worked. I think last night wrecked our chances of an automatic place.
Me too. I'm in a catch 22 situation of wanting all the other teams to **** up today but not wanting Bournemouth to be clear at the top of the league as well.
Sky were saying we had won the last 3 games when somebody has been sent off - Tamas v Huddersfield and Angella v Reading I can remember. What was the other? The red card shown to Angella but lack of one for Pudli's tackle summed up the inconsistent nature of the ref's performance sadly. Typical...still we did fairly well and can bounce back quickly next week..
I don't even know what "good" and "bad" means in this league. They are wishy-washy judgements that essentially mean nothing. As Travis has pointed out, it's all noise how much they are rated, because they've taken most teams in this division apart and are leading the way. They play with wingers, they pass and move, they keep their shape and are organised. They score lots of goals and defend with competence. These are the things that make a difference in the Championship. So I'm not sure what more you expect. All I know is that if we were Bournemouth, we'd be absolutely delighted with our season.
Inconsistent?? That's like calling Saddam Hussein 'difficult to work with', George W Bush 'eccentric' or Hitler 'moody'.
Probably because you know that last night was a big chance to get ourselves in the automatic hunt but some burk took that opportunity away. Still have a chance but 7 points seems a lot
Watching Lee Probert laughing and joking with the Bournemouth players in the tunnel before the game gave me a sense of dread. I could never have known what he was going to do a short while later. I actually thought that Bournemouth were pretty decent, did what they had to do, and were pretty professional in dispatching ten men. However the mass media **** ******* of Eddie Howe and his team is a little embarrassing. We would have won that with 11 vs 11. Also if Joka can work that massive sense of injustice into something positive for the team at least some good may come out of Proberts balls up
If b'muff goes up will they be the smallest club ever in PL? Proper tinpot. Their fall from grace is imminent, even with a 2 man advantage they were average.
Big difference between saying 'we WOULD have won that 11 v 11' and 'we COULD have won that 11 v 11'. I was fairly confident on my way to the ground that we would give Bournemouth a good match and was hopeful we'd take our second half form from last Saturday into the match. But let's not re-write history into assuming we'd have automatically won last night had Probert not made such a big mistake. It's precisely that sort of undercurrent of over-confidence, even 'arrogance' that's blighted our season at times. The constant thinking we have the best squad, that everybody else is tinpot, that our way is the best way, that it's a travesty we're not promoted already. Certain results this season, and a total lack of consistency, have been a wake-up call that can still be heeded. The real footballing tragedy is that Probert's mistake never gave us the chance to test the theory that we could have won 11 v 11.
I firmly believe we would have won yesterday but there are no guarantees in football certainly not where watford are concerned. I just hope that we can take something out of yesterdays game and the positive signs of a bit of team spirit emerging.
I feel sorry for you and all those other Watford fans that made the trip last night. After just 26 seconds, the game was over as a contest because of an incorrect refereeing decision. I will stop short at calling it a mistake though. Mistakes are accidents or things you get wrong unintentionally. Knowing how experienced the referee is, and his position on the field at the time of the incident, I would say it's highly unlikely, almost impossible, for that decision to have been an innocent mistake. There were far too many dubious decisions, all of which went for one side, for it to be anything else but an intentional act. Why he wanted to gift Bournemouth a match like he did is anyone's guess, but I wish someone within the club, or a neutral person within the game who wants the game to be clean and above board, to start an investigation into these things. It happens far too often for it to be just a mistake from a referee. I will say that this season has been very well officiated, from a Watford point-of-view, until last night. There have been very few incidents of note, but no one can ever convince me there was not some sort of campaign against the club in Zola's first season. It was so obvious that something untoward was going on, but no one could prove it. You just have your suspicions and that's as far as it goes. Last season we still had a lot of poor decisions go against us, but nothing like the previous campaign, and this season, as I mentioned, has been pretty good until last night.
Hardly surprising. They are a good side and we had been running ourselves stupid for 45 minutes plus. Depressed. Weekend ruined. Have removed myself from the family environment for a few hours, my mood is that bad.
Not the end of the world! A 7 point gap isn't impossible to over turn. Teams around will lose so we've just got to keep winning.
Reading being an example. A bang average team which didn't taken advantage of us having 10 men, albeit it wasn't from the first minute
No it's not. They were. That's why they needed a penalty, for all their great play they created nothing with the exception of hitting the bar.
I believe the assist for the second would be credited to him even though our defence should be credited for it
Some thoughts on last night https://nathanlowndesfootballgenius...thoughts-bournemouth-lee-probert-2-0-watford/
Yes he was the last Bournemouth player but let's be honest he wasn't aiming for Ritchie. Ritchie did a bit more 2nd half but considering the extra man I thought their wingplay was quite poor especially the final ball. Now where have I heard that before?!
Fair enough man. I think we can both agree that The Championship is of a pretty poor standard this year
