If you're looking to blame someone for lack of goals, Almunia hasn't scored this season OR last season.

Not acceptable in the team that scored the most goals.

  5. Orny Arry

If you want to blame a striker blame Troy. No excuse for poor form. Hasn't scored from open play since our first home match. He has missed a few sitters which I can just about forgive him for but I can't forgive him for his constant lack of effort. What happened to the Troy who would run the line and chase every last and lost ball?

The only positive for me from yesterday is we had a striker who attempted to play off the shoulder.

So we're all agreed. No Acuna, no Deeney, no Howlmunia, no Mediocrebrini and certainly no Forestieri.

It's not like we haven't given Acuna a proper chance , that's 1 whole league start he s had and How many hat tricks did he score in that ? None, zero , zilch, de nada.
I mean how much bloody time does he want to adjust ?

Stevenage bench is where he ll be spending most of this season on loan, and quite rightly too .

Well said 'Arry, you just beat me to it, as I was going to point out that he has missed a few sitters recently, and that his drop in form has not just been down to bad service and being isolated as many have been saying; that did not cause him to miss those sitters.

I'm sure it is just a slump in form as most players go through, but he needs to snap out of it soon, we need the Troy we all know and love back quickly!!!

  11. Orny Arry

    Orny Arry Guest

Exactly. We know what he's made of so I'll be the last to throw any abuse his way. But his form has to change and soon. We've had chances to see teams off and we've not done that. There are no excuses and for that reason my only criticism is aimed at the core of the team, or it will be if things don't change soon.

And for the second time this season we're witnessing players fighting over taking a penalty. Players showing greed and more concerned about their goal tally does nothing but wind me up.

I can see where you are coming from on a level but I think it also shows confidence. Zola has come out and said how Deeney let McGugan take it, but I think there was a little bit of Troy who wanted it to make the Blackpool miss "right"

If Deeney had taken it and scored, it could be a turnaround. I'm not going to throw abuse at Troy as he form has dipped, I'm sure he is as frustrated as I am when he misses. He'll come around. He gives this club his all. I don't think anyone can question that. When the time is right, Troy will deliver.

Some of our supporters are so moronic with their constant sniping at our own players, please stay at home or watch another team. Slagging off our players only produces negative pressure and results.

    Supporters should support full stop.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this at all. Criticism is all part of football, if we weren't to criticise or "snipe" at our players we'd accept mediocre performance. Yes, expectations are high but that is down to us/them performing last season. Support comes in many forms, just because they wear a Watford shirt doesn't mean they are exempt from having a "bad day at the office"

The problem is that the fans are too optimistic in a way. They very quickly label players the messiah, without knowing anything about them. People were saying Acuna was the next Vydra, when he is nothing like him as a player. From the highlights, most of Acuna’s goals were either because he out committed Spanish defenders and won the loose ball in the box (which he will not do in our division), or because the game was really open and the ball was slotted through the gap in the middle (again, will not happen with our tactics). He looks like he would be more effective up front in a front 3, with two consistent skilful wingers to attack to make space for him, especially if we are winning. His play seems to all be about getting into the right positions and having the freedom of movement upfront, which he doesn’t have with Deeney occupying the central most forward spot. Basically then, he is currently more suited as a Deeney replacement, rather than a partner. I’d love to see a friendly (or Carling Cup game) front 3 of Fabbrini, Acuna and Anya, with McGugan getting forward to occupy that space just behind, with Deeney taking a bit of a rest.

I wonder how many of our so called 'experts' giving all kinds of advice to our manager without the knowledge that he possesses being with them every day. I would also like these so called supporters to be judged on their work performance ability in public. How many have mediocre attitudes and skills?

If you want Watford to be successful trust the incumbent management team as they clearly have a lot more idea than the array of different views held by people that actually know very little about the game.

The problem is, that makes it very boring for the people on this forum. There is no point saying a player played rubbish, the management know that. They might even know better, and know that they played their role well, we just did not know what the role was. Same goes for playing well. And speculating line ups. And tactics. And what clothes they are wearing at the training ground. What they had for lunch. The club even knows what figures are attending Barnsley away more than us, so lets not talk about it. Zola probably knows which phrase he prefers: knit, gel or click. He certainly knows who will play the Chalobah role.

So I guess all of us, one by one, should just say: Go Watford.

    Go Watford.

  25. ChrisG

    ChrisG Squad Player

I'd welcome that. I'd know where I need to improve and then get on with the task at hand.

Everyone has opinion on how players get on. Everyone has the right to express this opinion. Yes, the management team see more than your average forum "expert" but when it comes to game day they are watching the same game as we do. Do you really expect a team to go through a season without criticism from it's supporters? Bloody hell, we won 6-1 and we played a terrible first half in that game. Supporting a team isn't just about clapping your hands when it comes to game time. There are issues in the team that do need to be addressed. As I've said in another thread, I by no means call myself an expert but I can see ways that maybe utilisingplayers that others might not. It is all ideas, we don't manage this team.

  26. ChrisG

True, he does. But he has learnt that in this system. Obviously his most successful time as a football player has been with Watford

  27. scully on the wing

Watford's manager and players have often stated that vocal support is immensely important to their attempts to win each game. alternatively sniping at players reduces their confidence which makes them hide or reluctant to shoot.

It's not rocket science, the problem is some people are more interested about their own importance, feeling good about giving advice, however nonsensical, sad gits!

  28. ChrisG

    ChrisG Squad Player

    *******s.

It isn't about someone's self importance at all - it's all discussion. You don't have to agree with it in the slightest but offer a better counter argument than someone being a sad git. God forbid anyone says a Watford player ever has a poor game again.

  29. scully on the wing

scully on the wing First Year Pro

If you read my contribution properly you will understand that my argument is: support is good, sniping is corrosive. We all want Watford to be successful. Criticism by non qualified 'so called supporters' is destructive, useless and unwelcome.

The problem, as previously stated, is that our expectations are maybe too high at the moment. I was at the season launch evening last week in which Zola (what a gentleman) kept emphasising that expectations must be kept in check.

  30. ChrisG

I agree that expectations are high and that we should keep our feet firmly on the ground (see here: http://www.watford.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=325732)

But I don't agree that "so called supporters" should keep criticism to themselves. Support is support. I can say that Connor Smith played like dog**** on Tuesday night (I'm not qualified but I still see that he was dreadful) yet still support the team. You can't go through life being content with everything and just not saying something, that is when people take you for granted.

This is a football forum, of course there is going to criticism. Do you suggest people just don't say anything? If they do they aren't a loyal supporter? Don't just think that criticism is trying to make things worse. Constructive criticism can lead to improvements.

  31. scully on the wing

Conner Smith and the management team Know how he played. How can it benefit the player or the team for him to read or be told by his friends about derogative comments from his own so called supporters? It is so easy to criticise, winge but you need to ask yourself, does my comment help the team?

You must have a high opinion of yourself that you think your comments will lead to positive action by the player or manager.

Presumably you are not a spotty faced kid sat at home on benefits, I wonder how you performed at work on Tuesday?

  32. ChrisG

You keep going on about "so called supporters" Does it make someone a "so called supporter" if they have an issue with a performance? I'm pretty sure that my comments won't even reach the player or manager and if they did I would back them up with why I thought that. I wouldn't duck away from the fact that I have an opinion, just like I hope nobody would with me.

Tuesdays are generally my busiest days at work, if it makes a difference. I'm pretty sure I managed to pull off what I had to do.

Connor Smith played like a boy who'd been plucked from the oncoming hordes of fans to play.

Even if he had been, I would have expected a better performance from the fan.

Luckily for me, my job role doesn't include having to perform in front of thousands of people each week who rate me on my performance. I'm confident that I know I can do my job within the Audio Visual industry better than anyone that would call me to assist, otherwise why would I be there? It still doesn't stop people getting on my case about it or asking me to "sort it out"

It isn't about how much or how little you know, if you play bad and it is noticed there isn't much you can do about it. If you don't like an opinion that is based on what someone sees then it is probably better not to complain about it. If you want to call me out on anything else, by all means, go for it.
