I don't like the way Sherlock gets behind his team so much, even when results aren't going Udinese's way. This must be changed.
Highlights: Stramaccioni, the young Inter's manager, seemed a good lad to me but lost lots of points in after-match interview saying that it should have been penalty and red card in first half (0:16' in the video, Inter's Palacio was booked for diving). That's why I love honest people like Guidolin or Zola, never climbing on mirrors to justify a loss. Di Natale is a killer, as usual. He and Guidolin are the blessings of Udinese. Muriel might really be the next great thing. @GoingDown: LOL, I hope GoingDowness is not contagious, I wouldn't like, by being around in this forum, end up as :]]
Great victory. On a weekend when we lost to the League Champions, this is a nice reminder of what we can strive to achieve in future years under the Pozzo regime.
Great result - looking at the highlights it was never a penalty and the ref was correct to book him for a shameless dive. As for the miss by their number 42 - wow. Well done Udinese.
How long before Stramaccioni gets theboot ? Moratti is unwilling to fund tranfers at the moment ie Ezequiel Schelotto. Take a look at the way the Sneijder deal is dragging on. There were some odd results in serie A last weekend. Fiorentina completely dominated their game against Pescara but found their keeper Perin in great form while Juventus were also beaten at home by ten man Sampdoria with 2 goals from the young Argentine striker Mauro Icardi formerly of Barcelona. The first was a great finish. Roma under Zeman seem to have a non existent defence as they shipped four against Napoli for whom Cavani scored a hat trick. He is impressive at club level but has struggled for Uruguay recently and does not carry their attack at all. Good result for Udinese in consolidating their midtable position.
I was just on the Udinese website and came across an article about a new stadium? http://www.udinese.it/portal/EN/handle/?hil&page=redazione_nuovostadiofriuli&language=inglese How long has this been in development for Sherlock? Is it likely to happen within the next few years? Is it being funded entirely by the Pozzos or a combination of sponsors, council and owners?
It's the renovation plans for the current stadium I believe. Just looked it up on wikipedia: "[Stadio Friuli] will be renovated towards the end of the 2012–13 season with work to begin in April 2013. New north and south stands, which will be completely rebuilt over the old athletic track, are expected to be ready for the 2013–14 season. The west stand, which is already covered, will be refurbished with better facilities during the same summer. The remaining stand will be rebuilt over the course of the 2013–14 season and will be ready for the following season. This will give the rebuilt stadium a capacity of around 25,000 with scope for expansion to 35,000. The north and south stands will not be covered until the summer of 2014." Correct me if I'm wrong though sherlock/anyone else.
Long story. In Italy almost all stadiums are multifunctional (also for athletics, rugby etc) and owned by municipality, rented for use to football teams. For a team to build its own stadium is somewhat difficult, due also to laws and bureaucracy. For many years there was talk of a new "law for stadiums" that could make it easier for teams to build their own stadium of property, but this is still blocked. Many teams hoped and waited for an UEFA EURO to be held in Italy, so that stadium restructuring could be done with UEFA help. When EURO 2016 was assigned to France, Pozzo decided to go on with his own strength and in accordance with Udine Municipality. Between 2010 and summer 2011 there were pacts for Udinese to pay a very reduced fee for the renting of stadium in exchange of being fully responsible for its manteinance, improvement and development. In summer 2012 Municipality assigned to Udinese the rights to "use" the stadium terrains for 99 years (so, not full property as law still missing, but almost!) and after that, the project for the new stadium could begin seriously. Minor works are being made already. Serious works should begin in next summer, with demolition and reconstruction of one sector at a time in order to be able to continue to use the stadium as long as possible. Money for works is coming all from Udinese (and maybe some sponsors).
Reading some of the articles about it, there are some very funny pictures of the little stickmen in the gym supposing what the new stadium will be like. Also from my limited understanding of italian I assume "wifi free zone" means the same in english? Pretty cool I wish we had that at our stadium. It all looks pretty amazing. Is it all being built with sustainability in mind? To use the stadium for other uses for the community such as the gym and conferences and things like that to keep revenue coming in all year round?
That own goal from Brkic no matter how inadvertent needs to be put into Comedy Football 2013..... :]] EL football for certain. Italian football needs new life . Many clubs are aiming for new stadia in which there is actually an atmosphere.
Yes the own goal is unbelivable XD big big unlucky situation, bad day for brkic today not only for the "owngoal" but also for the right hand injury. About the stadium, finally we are close to begin the rebuilding, it will not exactly be a renovation because all the undercover parts of the stadium will be destroyed and rebuilt completely. For first at the end of this seasons the so-much-hated athletic line will be eliminated and the field will be remade closer to the covered stand. Then the two stands behind the goal will be destroyed and rebuild before the beginning of the next season (this is what they promised at least....) then at last will be the turn of the stand opposite to the covered one. final part will be build a new coverage for the new stands. It should end before the beginning of the 2014/2015 season (again...this is what they say). Next week in Turin... we have to beat the thieves, support us XD
Congratulations to Udinese on a great win last night! I look forward to discussing the game with my Fiorentina-supporting and Firenze-native colleague on Wednesday afternoon
Udinese defeated Fiorentina 3-1 at the Stadio Friuli on Sunday afternoon in Serie A. A Zeljko Brkic own goal had handed the away side the lead until Antonio Di Natale levelled from the spot just before the break. Di Natale added to his tally in the second half and a goal from Luis Muriel completed the comeback.
Funnily enough, I've always looked out for Udinese's scores since I was young - only because I played as them a few times on my PC version of FIFA 99 and I liked the sound of their name. Silly reason really, but have always had a soft spot since!
Well as for me, I always loved them too. And long before you, too, Saliva. I remember clearly being wheeled past the Tonibell Italian Cafe in Watford High Street during the 1960's and hearing 'Udinese! Udinese!' on the radio that the Italian chefs had by the open kitchen window. Somehow it stuck and one of my first words was "Zebrette" and I pretty much adored them ever since then. Even more so of course, since they've so kindly dug my ahem...'other' club out of the kaka AND given us a team full of proper skilful and talented football players. Even more so now. :naughty:
What, did you c&p that from somewhere else on the web or something? You're nothing more than a glory hunting barsteward Clive.
How could you suggest that? It's as though you believe Saliva and I are merely trying to flatter our kind (and generous) Italian brothers with tales of how much we've always loved them sincerely.
Well Cassiobury Clive, when I was young my parents couldnt afford to buy me a Watford AND an Udinese shirt - so to remedy this I coated our kitchen trivet in black paint and pressed it against my front after a good dusting in talcum powder following my weekly bath. I then spray painted my legs black as I didn't have any black shorts and went for a run around in my garden pretending to be Paulo Poggi.
Juventus is a dirty old lady. The stench of corruption from her corpulent body, the crooked eye of deceitfulness polluting Italian football.
This has nothing to do with Udinese, apart from the fact that with some more luck we could have been playing tonight instead of Fiorentina. Anyway, for those interested, tonight quarter-final of Italy Cup: Fiorentina-Roma. Might be quite good to watch! Fiorentina is a strong team and was maybe the best we met this year in Udine; lots of talent, maybe lacking in finishing. Roma, with Zeman as manager, is always a fun to watch. It is always much more likely to see a 5-3 rather than a 0-0 with them on field. And lot of quality there as well. So if you have it on some channel or are willing to search for a stream, I think the match has the potential for a nice show.
