I am not sure what it is but I have not cared less about a super bowl in awhile. I guess i'm going for Seattle (most Penn state players)
Goodness me. That is the worst way the Denver Broncos could have started the 2nd half. There's no way they can make it back from this, surely?
Well, did not see that coming. Had Hawks to win by 10 - but everything went right. Granted, Denver were terrible in the tackle, but they still had to score.
Well you do have the first pick? What are your feelings on that Luke, has Schab fallen off that much to draft a QB 1?
Yeah, Texans have first pick. There is absolutely no way in hell that Matt Schuab plays another down for this franchise. The last time he played at home, the offense had to run silent counts because the fans were booing him so badly. I don't know whether they'll draft a QB first, but the rumors around town today are that it's between Johnny Football and Blake Bortles - who played under Bill O'Brien's mentor at UCF. There's been talk about trading down and picking up some better picks, although I don't know how much the first pick is worth without a real stand-out guaranteed hit in the draft. But yeah, Schaub is done. They'll probably cut him before the fans cut up their ST's.
So who do the Texans take with No. 1 pick. Doesn't look like there's going to be too many trade partners. If they take the best player on the board - Clowney then that means Fitzpatrick spends the season getting regularly benched for poor play. Johnny Football goes at 3 or 4 as both those teams need shirt sales !!! I'm sure that as usual the Bears will use their 1st Round pick on some up and coming player that will be an excellent addition to Arizona's practice squad in a couple of years !!!!
Draft Day upon us. I want the Texans to take Manziel, but it's not going to happen with O'Brien as coach. Hopefully they can trade down and pick up a few picks elsewhere because there are so many holes in the roster. Clowney is a freak athlete, but a lot of people don't like his work ethic and they worry what will happen to him once he gets paid. His college coach wasn't very complementary about him, which is a pretty negative endorsement. There have been some rumors around town today that Ryan Mallett could be close to wrapping up a move to Houston. I don't know if that's just because he worked with BOB in New England, but I'm not thrilled about the prospect of going into the season with Fitzpatrick and 1 completion in 3 years Ryan Mallett competing for the starting spot. If that's the case, they're basically throwing in the towel for this season and looking to pick up Mariota or Winston next year.
Well, I will take those draft picks relatively happy. Hopefully Ego and Will can bolster an abysmal D. Interesting picks elsewhere, Punter in round 6 and QB David Fales looks like a good(ish) prospect. He doesn't throw the best spirals, but seems good on the run which is something a Bears QB certainly needs to be, if he can get those sack numbers down for the team then he'll be a welcome addition. So, to next season! (Oh, and Bears on Hard Knocks please, HBO!)
I'm genuinely happy with the Bills' picks this year. We needed a WR and got one in arguably the best of the draft, Sammy Watkins. We've improved our offensive line as well to protect our rookie QB and made a couple of defensive improvements. Hopefully this is the year...
Watkins is a beast. He's fun to watch. I'd say 75% of my Aggie-Texans friends have decided they'll now support Cleveland from now on. Classic American sports fan behavior. It was pretty funny to watch Johnny react to being passed up so many times. He tried to pull off the fake clap and smile with each pick, but failed miserably. The disappointment and frustration was obvious. Interesting times ahead watching him in the NFL. Texans went big on the defensive side of things, so it'll be interesting to see what happens with the QB position between now and the start of the season.
Hopefully he can replicate his form with the Bills. It's been a while since I've seen some exciting play from them. I was pretty surprised that Mr "I'm not Johnny Football anymore" wasn't in the first 3 rounds. Not that I'm not disappointed that he wasn't picked during the first 3 rounds. He's a talented player no doubt, but I've never liked his constant off-field shenanigans and despite him being publicly shamed, he was never properly reprimanded in the way others would have. A prime example is our 6th pick (at least I think it was our 6th pick) this year, Seantrell Henderson. He's had a colourful past and was reprimanded numerous times by the Hurricanes coaching staff and now it seems that he's properly got it together. Hopefully Mannone can keep him on track because he'll be very important for us in the near future.
The worst thing about Johnny "not Mr Football" is not only will, his story not go away soon, it will probably just get noisier and more salacious until he blesses us with a Tim Tebow-esque total disappearance. This is going to suck
Yeah that's true. If he becomes successful, the whole country will go Manziel-mad. If he flops hugely, you can bet anything there'll be a Fox special on how Johnny Football fell from grace. The best thing for us is if he slowly fades away from the limelight.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...um=referral&utm_campaign=programming-national Brandon Marshall, I like your play and I am glad you're optimistic ahead of the new season. But what the hell are they feeding them in camp if this is the kind of nonsense they're coming out with! Bearing in mind Jay wasn't even a lot of fans first choice going in to the end of last season, this would be a remarkable turnaround.
Real Madrid playing a little football. Xabi Alonso is the only one that doesn't throw like a seven year old girl, but Sergio Ramos looks to have receiver skills.
You're right, Xabi Alonso had a decent arm. I liked Ramos' ability to read the defense and change the play into a QB run. Real Madrid could probably have rushed for 200 yards + against last years Bears.
Hate to continue the story of Mr "not football anymore", but apparently as well as being drafted by the Browns in the NFL draft, he was also drafted by the San Diego Padres in the MLB draft! I never knew you could do that! He really doesn't want to go away from the limelight does he...
In Florida in every sports shop they had the usual player t-shirts of the bigger teams, and the local ones (Dolphins/marlines/gators etc.) but everywhere had Johnny Football t shirts. He was everywhere. I don't understand it!!
I'll never understand the American fixation on a person like him, as well as the media love-in that they have with characters like these. That said though, it's not exclusively a Yank thing (e.g. Harry "Wheela Deala" Redknapp")
Yes, there are quite a few multi sport athletes, some more notable than others. The most famous was Bo Jackson who was a running back (Raiders?) and a tremendous hitter and fielder in baseball (forget which team). FSU Qb Charlie Ward won the Heisman trophy back in 93 or so, and didn't get drafted to an NFL team because he didn't think he'd do well, so he entered the NBA draft and played 6-8 years for the New York Knicks basketball team. Danny Ainge was a pitcher in MLB, but made his mark as a sharpshooter for the Boston Celtics in the NBA. As far as I know, only Bo Jackson actually played very well in two sports and he actually played year round, where most of the other guys were drafted into two sports but not played one and then another, if at all.
So, 34-28 over the Eagles in Pre Season Week 1. Not too bad. Some great plays, some not not so. Have to say, Sanchez impressed me for the Eagles. Other than that, too many gaps when facing the run, but this team is a work in progress.
Texans looking real good. At least Manziel was totally average, otherwise the city would have gone into meltdown.
Been away for a while, so catching up with the Chicago game now against the Jaguars. Same old mistakes. The D needs to shape up, and quick. You cannot remain so exposed to the run. A win is a win, I guess; but Trestman has got some big issues to iron out. Hopefully Allen's presence will help. p.s. Interesting to see Johnny Manziel rush for 27 yards. And make the game the highest viewed in pre-season history.
I'm just hoping no one gets hurt over the pre-season. Now that Johnny Football is second string I hope I don't have to here about him all the time.
Anyone interested in a Pick'em league? Playing for bragging rights only. Super easy, and fun. ESPN Pigskin Pick'em Password is: LARS
Is the password still LARS, it won't let me log in, telling me the password does not match. EDIT: Somehow stumbled my way in.
Maaaaannn...you just never know til the season kicks off and you what the teams do. Seahawks may struggle a bit due to rules changes aimed at reducing a mainstay of their game last season, cheating by holding, but they are a very strong team with really good chemistry. I hate them. Denver will have a HUGE chip on their shoulders. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the SB blowout. Niners, Ravens, Atlanta, Pats, Colts, maybe the Bears, Browns, Cardinals all have an outside chance. I'm sure I've left some out.
