I was thinking oh my god not another unknown manager but I am slowly starting to change. The guy is quite active on Twitter and it looks like he speaks English and let’s face it there is no chance he speaks Georgian so he must have done training in English. I really don’t think it is possible to play any worse than we have over resent weeks and at least Spaniards like to keep the ball on the deck so I think it might be an ok appointment. And anyway if it doesn’t work out we can always sack him.
To me it confirms a combination of two things, if we park to one side the possibility that Gino has just completely lost the plot. The first is confirmation of the complete disdain Gino has for the role of a manager. He clearly thinks a chimpanzee can do it and it’s just a role to be filled, like an admin assistant, or receptionist. The second is he must truly believe we have a squad good enough to walk the league irrespective of who you put in charge. I really hope he’s right on both fronts but I really don’t think he is.
What a perfect example of how low expectations have now sunk for Gino's managerial appointments Based on this criteria we might as well just hire Piers Morgan
Win ratios in the 4th tier are pretty irrelevant and misleading. Keeping a small team above the relegation trapdoor with associated poor win rate is often more impressive than getting a club like Pompey out of the 4th tier. I wouldn’t have minded seeing him appointed but I’m sure plenty on here would be underwhelmed by the appointment of the ex Pompey, chesterfield and Wigan manager. My point was that any highly rated up and coming manager wouldn’t want to come here due to lack of control, poor transfer budget and trigger happy owners. For all we know they spoke to him and he told them to **** off.
Am assuming Maureen from the canteen turned the job down then ? Gino obviously had a back up option so that he wouldn’t be held over a barrel whilst negotiating the financials with Maureens agent. I expect Xisco is little more than a smokescreen whilst we iron out the details for our number one target .
If anyone is interested in how Xisco sets up his teams. Here are highlights from a recent game in which his side lost 6-1 to a team from the Faroe Islands
This is just truly inexplicable - I still find it hard to believe this has happened. What indication can they possibly have had to bring him in with the remit of guaranteed promotion; a man who doesn't just lack knowledge of the league, but knowledge of management as a job in itself. What the **** are we doing?! I don't see how we can do anything other in the immediate term than resign ourselves to this strange new reality, where we have no money, no players and are stuck down in the second division.
Gino just hasn’t grasped that this isn’t Italy. They chop and change managers like it’s going out of fashion and quite often sack and re-hire the same bloke a number of times. Italian player accept it as part of the DNA of the game there. They will just get on with things. But here - you can only sack so many coaches before fans and players just shut up shop and say they can’t be bothered anymore. Get me to a different club or I’m not bothering going anymore. He hasn’t grasped this. And I think it’ll dawn on him when we finish 15th with a whole squad wanting to leave that he can’t afford and no fans in the stadium. We will have regressed beyond how he found us. I genuinely believe it. Added to that, the comments have been on here and on Twitter and no doubt elsewhere all day - the faith has been lost in their stewardship. The dismay at this potential appointment. It goes on. They must know how upset and angry the fans are - yet they simply don’t care. The past 48hrs have been nothing but a massive ‘fu*k you’ to the fanbase.
The guy was an utter hunk back in the day, if a little on the swarthy side, but there's definitely a porker in there waiting to get out. Anyone got any recent pics? The last thing we need is a fat barstard on the sidelines.
I'd be interested to hear Pozzo or Duxbury explain what made Xisco the outstanding candidate to take the company forward at such a critical moment as I can't think of any business in any industry where key appointments are made in such a seemingly haphazard way. Mind boggling
