I agree with your every word. He's an absolute charlatan.

With the squad he's got the performances and results are not good enough. Imagine losing and drawing games in this league with this squad. Imagine just edging past teams more often than handing out thrashings.

If we had had a proper manager this would have been the season of a lifetime. Instead of that, this funny little tubby man has got us nervously looking over our shoulders with 6 games to go. Shameful.

And yet our pathetic fans think this season has been a success!

I think there is a bit of a dichotomy at play which perhaps people aren’t considering, or indeed of course I might just be wrong about. This isn’t meant to downplay Munoz’s achievements in any way shape or form by the way, but I genuinely believe Gino doesn’t place as much importance in the role of a manager as most people in football do.

I don’t really care what revisionist opinions people have, Munoz was a huge gamble with such limited experience and it could’ve very easily gone horribly wrong. Gino looked at the situation with Ivic, and decided a few basic fundamental things were needed to get the players going. He decided he didn’t need a tactical genius, a disciplinarian, someone with years of championship experience or experience of promotion, he decided that the squad needed someone who would pick the best players in the best positions and let them play. Now as it was he didn’t even do that to start with, but that’s another story.

It turns out that Gino was right (if we get promoted) about what was needed, but in reality all that will actually do is reinforce his opinion that the manager isn’t actually that important, or to put it another way what Munoz has achieved really isn’t anything particularly special.

So he isn’t really going to take into consideration what Munoz has done, because it’s what he expected him to do. He’ll then view the task at hand in the Premier League as one that requires different attributes to the one he choose Munoz for and appoint someone else accordingly.

One thing's for sure, if XM wins it and it doesn't have a negative impact on our form, we will know that it's Troost-Ekong picking the team

Do you honestly think there will be “no bad headlines for us” if we get promoted and then get rid of Munoz? The badges thing won’t mean anything to the media. It will be “Watford at it again” and worse than the times Pozzo sacked Jokanovic and QSF.

They might just be used to it but sure Lineker will find time to comment when he has hardly mentioned the Championship at any other point during the season.

The media won't know which why to turn if we go up with Norwich as we have gone about it totally differently in their eyes.

I would argue Xisco's more cooperative atmosphere is what enabled the talk to happen. Ivic's my way or highway approach either unites or divides by design and would have stifled this type of meeting.

I do, yeah. If dispensation is formally denied, I think the narrative will focus on the PL disfavouring a smaller club.

We are long past peak 'Watford headlines' - we reached it when we sacked Pearson two games before the end of the season. Look at the way the news of the Ivic sacking was then greeted. No one expects anything more or less of us at this point, and everyone knows how the Pozzos approach the management of clubs that they own, as well as what importance they place on each cog in the wheel.

I have spent countless utterly fruitless hours defending the Pozzo approach as a pragmatic business one that has worked for decades and explaining to fans of other teams who couldn't otherwise name three players of ours why the decision was made, but in recent times I have absolutely stopped bothering, and I genuinely don't care at all what form any reaction would take.

The post you quoted said people were against him from day one. I can understand people questioning Gino over the appointment, but I don't think it was reasonable to be against Xisco himself from the outset.

Silvio Berlusconi, doesn’t have the football experience but heard he is looking for a new job and has experience of prison so would have the respect of Troy

Obviously not Xisco the person no, that would be stupid. There were plenty of posts saying it’s not his fault and he’s obviously going to take the job regardless of his qualifications. Plenty of people were against the appointment though.

The lethargy towards Xisco from some stems totally from Gino Pozzo. We all know 4 or 5 poor results and the coach is gone. That attitude filters through to the fan base. There's very little reason to feel invested in the coach because we all know how precarious his job is.

He's done brilliantly well, but he would have gone had we lost to Bristol City. He was very close to the chop at that point.

So it's great while he's doing well, but as Joka found out, getting promoted by turning things around brilliantly cuts very little ice with the owner. I think there's very little chance Munoz will be in charge of us next season. I'd be amazed if he is.

Who are we all kidding, will he stay , will he leave.

The reality is that he will lead us to championship champions by winning all remaining games and then be poached by Everton , not because they need a new manager, but because they are a bunch of tossers.

  17. Ybotcoombes

I know this won’t be a popular view but I do have some sympathy for the Pozzo way, we pay a manager a lot of money to do a job if they don’t achieve the targets set out we get rid of them, They are also to be fair normally clear when they appoint 1/2 way through a season that it’s only a job till the end of the season. I guess knowing when to switch is the tricky thing and not something I think they have always got right.

I think the main issue is our recruitment of managers seems as random as our recruitment of players and we have sacked so many now that any quality manager would be wary of coming here.

For me not giving Xisco a chance next year seems harsh but I guess this is a business not a charity and if Gino doesn’t think he can hack it why risk a bad start.

And there were plenty of posts attacking Xisco himself, including from yourself. Which, as I said, I think was unreasonable, but not surprising from this forum.

Reread the thread of the replies, because I'm not talking about people questioning the logic appointment itself, I'm talking about Malt's first paragraph, which you highlighted and replied to.

Surely that’s a nuance that most people can appreciate? Nobody knows Xisco, or his personality, whether he’s a nice person, is nice to his mum, gives to charity etc. Nobody was really unhappy with Xisco himself, they were unhappy with the appointment. Naturally there are going to be blurred lines between him as the person and what he represents in terms of the appointment. Anything said about him personally is obviously not about him personally, it’s what he represents. I think anybody with a reasonable level of intelligence is able to understand that.

“The simple and sad truth is there are people who have been against him from day one. Because he wasn’t a big name maybe, or didn’t come with a long CV.”

I said that was reasonable, it was reasonable.

At this stage I think you’re either A) taking pedantry to absolute extreme and tedious levels, by deliberately ignoring the nuance of him not literally meaning him but people being against him as in the appointment. Or perhaps B) You genuinely struggle in real life with context and nuance, for example things like sarcasm go over your head easily.

I was under the impression Joka left due to a breakdown of contract payment demands? Not too sure he would of done as well as QSF did for our first 1/2 of the season before the goals dried up - but he took Fulham up and really struggled. Maybe the Championship is Joka's level?

As for Xisco, I would like him to be given a shot, but I feel he will be gone before the new season starts. He could be kept on as an assistant to new manager Deeney though.

I could lend him a Blue Peter one.

Money off at lots of major attractions and enough kudos for the Prem I'd think.

Joka could well have gone after losing four in a row, but saved his bacon with that stunning win at Fulham.

If you believe the rumours, Xisco could have gone after Coventry but saved his bacon with that stunning thrashing of Bristol City.

Two massive turning points for them as coaches but much more importantly for us as a club, as on both occasions our seasons turned for the better and the rest was/is history.

Can we get promoted first before talking about staying or going.

Last thing we need is some tin pot news outlet believing this thread, starting a rumour that Xisco is going to be fired, and we have turmoil on our hands again.

Let’s just try to keep the harmony going until we’ve accomplished what we need to.

I agree and don't discount that (I think we are broadly on the same ideological wavelength in this anyway) but really nothing can be placed in the relegation stakes ahead of rehiring Quique - it's about a factor of 10 more impactful than any other single act or decision, and equally as inexplicable.

I don't think it was sacking Gracia (or indeed not sacking him earlier) which was the big issue, it was more a case of us panicking when we'd got off to a bad start. Yeah we needed to improve in defence, but not to the degree where we almost completely ignored the attack
