Wycombe Wanderers had a loan bid to sign goalkeeper Richard Lee flatly rejected by Watford.

The Chairboys enquired about the availability of Lee, who has only made two Carling Cup appearances this season, but it is understood the Hornets rebuffed the approach immediately.

Wanderers boss Gary Waddock eventually landed former England Under-21 goalkeeper Tom Heaton on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.

Lee is one of a number of Hornets’ players out of contract in the summer.

Right decision IMO, we need a back-up goalkeeper and with North out on loan already, we do not want to rely on Bond on the bench at the moment.

Should have gone with a 24hr call back

His better playing league 1 every week than reserves every two or three

    Poor decision

I agree with this, would keep him much sharper.

    Bang on.

He has played two first team games in probably 8 months now. If he does come on, he will be rusty as a three hundred year old iron pole at the bottom of the ocean.

I agree.. Rich is a top bloke and deserves to be getting games somewhere. I dont want to see him leave permanently but I'd rather he be out on loan than rusting in the reserves. The 24hour call back is a good shout!

I'd also like to add that the reason they turned qpr down is probably because they were damn sure haywire would leave in January.

Suprised they didn't go for Heaton in the first place! Manchester United prospect Vs. Watford backup? Hmmm...

Agree with the 24hr callback thing, playing reserve team football isn't going to benefit anyone, but if he's playing every week there in a team that's fighting relegation, he'll be busy and keep sharp, it's not about practise at his age, but for the likes of Jonathan Bond, it is, and reserve football will be a good stepup from the U18's.
