Not sure I'd quite agree. The Griezmann one the other night felt like one that was rightly referred to the ref to check on the monitor. That's not the say the VAR couldn't decide it but given it was a question of gaining an advantage I think it was right the on field ref had the final say.

No idea why Taylor was asked the check in the Croatia game though.

Wasn’t that offside review part of a wider penalty review? ie it was a foul on the attacker so could have been a penalty but there was an offside as well so the penalty wasn’t given? I can’t remember which match it was but I think that was the explanation.

I have only just realised that our season restarts before the World Cup actually ends, bizarrely.

This means if England lose to Senegal we will not have Sarr for our next match.

    Stakes raised.

I'd hazard a guess he would be rested anyway.

Yeah I should have been more clear. Advantage etc is a different story to a cut and dried offside decision. Although they contrived to make a mess of that in the Germany game.

With the lines on the screen thing? Made no sense. It seemed to me (and again, watched with no sound), that Taylor was asked to make the call on the actual offside with the dotted line to armpit thing. Which we all know that English referees haven’t got a clue on. And even with that, it didn’t look offside. They made some bizarre inconsistent call on shoulder position disregarding the position of the Belgian defender.

I think that all goals, red (or potential red) cards and offsides are all automatically checked.

Take that Cameroon goal a few days ago, he thought he was offside, so did the defence, I reckon if he thought he was onside no way would he have tried that cheeky chip. In the old days the linesman would have flagged as soon as he touched the ball about 10 yards inside the Serbian half.

Yeah, sorry, 'the check' should have been 'to check'.

That’s the point. The referee’s decisions will always be questionable. It’s just whether you’re prepared to abide by them or not.

Improve the overall standard of refereeing, especially in England, and the standard of VAR will also improve.

Senegal penalty should've been retaken. Keeper miles off his line.
Poor from the officials not seeing that.

Keepers are learning not to move on these awful stuttering one trick pony run up penalties.

Assuming you mean Ghana, wasn't the Uruguay keeper's back foot on the line?

Uruguayan players losing it with the German referee. LOL

Uruguay was so accommodating to the Germans in the 40s/50s. How ungrateful. Hahahahah.

Uruguay really will hate VAR now after the last 2 games but all teams get bad calls .

Not sure why, but this is far more apparently at this world cup. Old school players refusing to accept football has moved on from them.

The best are the ones still in the game. What's the point in Souness who hasn't been involved for over 10 years?

Really, which Sarr is he talking about?

Cameroon to pull off another shock maybe? It's a blood and thunder kind of game going on between the Serbs and Swiss, can see it getting naughtier in the second half.

Pundits have been the worst ever. Dublin terrible. Souness a dinosaur 10 years ago, and I don't want to be that person, but vacant token females.

It's disappointing that not one pundit or expert (lol) understood the angle of the TV image meant whilst the ball "looked" out, it may well be inside the line.

Completely agree. Aluko and Scott are as drab and pointless as the blokes.

Unfortunately I imagine there's plenty of male and female former players out there who have far more to offer, but it's a closed shop.

The football punditry business is literally the most open and diverse it has ever been. A broader range and style of voices in hosting, commentary, co-commentary, punditry and reporting than ever. It’s much less of a closed shop than it used to be when the average panel would be Lawro, Martin O’Neill, Lawro, Shearer and Lawro.

And as bad as Dion Dublin is, he’s Brazil 1970 vintage on co-comms compared to Danny Murphy, whose pre-match rider must be some urine-soaked nettles to chew on.
