[RUMOUR] Where are ducking striker rumours?

I'm on holiday in Canada and quite frankly cannot believe we haven't signed anyone while I've been away. Disgraceful.

 

I was on a cruise to Bermuda for 9 days. I left when we're on the verge of signing Chalobah. I got back on a Sunday to find out that we only managed to announce him that Friday. So it took 7 days to sign and announce a player on the verge of joining us.

When do you get back from Canada because maybe 2 days before you get back we will announce another signing? Unless you get back on a Saturday, that would mean Thursday and nothing happens on Thursday.

 

My bins get collected on a Thursday.

Unless there's been a public holiday that week.

 

So do mine.

 

If only the club could get rid of its rubbish on Thursday too ...............

 

All this talk of crazy prices, but Chitarrito (or whatever his bloody name is) was surely an absolute steal at £10m? Overall the market is crazy and there are always the same clubs who hold out for ridiculous money (spurs etc) but there is still the odd deal to be done here and there.

£140k a week is not a steal. A transfer costs much more than just the original fee. I have no doubt we could go and pay £25m for a player - but we couldn't afford the wages that a £25m player is likely to want.

 

I went on a plane to Sri Lanka, and when we had landed, we had signed Chalobah.

I'll be going on a plane on Friday evening, and if we don't sign someone in that time I'll start to really panic, as my view of the world will have significantly shifted.

 

You get what you pay for, he has scored 72 league goals in 102 appearances for Utd, Madrid and Leverkusen. How much per week would you expect to pay a striker who averages well over a goal every other game at the top level?

 

I'd expect to pay a figure that we clearly wont and likely can't. It's not that hard to understand.

I fully hold my hands up on this one. I read the headline not the article, and he was talking about Marc Wilson. Still, he's probably still better than Okaka. You know what to do Gino....

This has made me think though about where we are at with forwards. I don't want this to turn into some faux dig at Bournemouth (cos frankly I didn't get our hostility towards them or vice versa) but they have Defoe, Wilson, King and Afobe. We are miles behind having that kind of competition and we came up at the same time. We have massively under-prepared ourselves in this area for a few years now and got lucky.

So, feeling shocked yet, or still quietly confident there's an imminent announcement ?

 

Do you think we should be paying players 140k per week?

 

I'm choosing to believe that we may have someone lined up - who has likely indicated he wants to come - but like most transfers, the selling club may be waiting to purchase before they sell said player. Obviously a total guess though! But that seems to be increasingly the way the transfer market works these days, no one wants to leave themselves short. For example, Iheanacho was linked heavily with Leicester well over a week ago but still hasn't moved - if City get Sanchez, you can bet Iheanacho will move pretty sharpish afterwards. It may be that we don't sign anyone until nearer the end of the window, such is the lack of solid transfer links.

We sold Ighalo - and I'm not debating whether we should have done so, it's obvious he had to move on when we were offered that money, given his form - but our real mistake was that we didn't replace him on deadline day or get someone lined up to be bought early thid summer. I fear our search may well be dependent on other clubs now, rather than us going out and getting who we want.

 

We're competing for the top strikers with 19 other premium teams and probably 20-30 other top league and CL teams around Europe

Whover comes in needs to suit English football with preferably experience of playing here; so the pool to pick from is small, will be incredibly competitive, and very expensive

If we can't buy then I hope we try to loan, maybe United might want one of their young 2 to get more experience as both are very inconsistent (probably too inconsistent for a regular spot) or we can loan Perez or similar

It certainly can't be an easy task for the club

 

Kabasele played as a striker until a few years ago and had a significantly better goals per minute ratio last season than Deeney (from open play). In the grand recent tradition of playing people out of position a la Abdi at right back, Capoue at left midfield, Janmaat in a back three, the solution is staring us in the face.

 

To be fair the club have stated that we want more players and looking back at previous transfers we very rarely publicise who we are going to sign and we don't hear anything until the deal is completed or nearly done.

 

Been on holiday in Canada for 2 weeks. Due to my strong made up links to the club they promised to withhold any transfers until my return.

where are all the ducking striker rumours? **** the rumours. where all the ducking striker signings. there's an elephant in the room and it's Okaka. We can't start the season with Okaka/Sinclair. Sure these things take time but it's squeeky bum time now. I trust the Pozzo's but if they fail to bring in a striker before Liverpool then they've tarnished that trust.

 

It is a bit worrying. The trouble is, even if they do get a new striker, he only has 2 weeks to get used to his surroundings which includes the team, manager and possibly even a new country. Seems like they are leaving it until the last minute which is a bit concerning as we will be relying on that player until Deeney gets fit (I hope to God that Sinclair doesn't get gametime at Watford this season)

 

I think Sinclair might get a few games, hopefully only when we're 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go... so maybe less than a few. 1 or 2.. maybe. And on the wing. Not up front.

 

My guess is that MS only played him at the weekend to make a point to Gino how thin the squad is. Effectively putting a rocket up his a*** to get someone in.

 

He'd be better off going on loan again. I'm sure a club promoted into the Championship such as Millwall would be happy to take him on to do first team duties

 

If we get some wingers in then most certainly, but sadly... at the moment... we kinda need him for back up. I really hope we don't need him come September 1st.
