Simply good husbandry, done properly. It’s inevitable with all the money Gino and Scott spent reinforcing the squad and addressing the clear weaknesses, that we’d be paying out plenty of cash to agents, and absolutely NOT paying out loads of cash to one specific agent. Gino and Scott are just damned if they do, and damned if they don’t!!* *A possible collection of quotes from Watford Twitter accounts.
More here - think this shows the various transactions. https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/policies/intermediaries/intermediaries-transactions
So Mogi was used for the Louza, Dennis, Etebo, Kucka, Sissoko, Kamara, Kayembe, Samir and Kalu deals. Shock. At least Gino has made his mate a rich man.
It would appear that way, two intermediaries used for the Samir transfer, one of which was Bayat. I understand Samir has an agent but Gino probably has Samir's number in his phone book, why the **** should Bayat be involved in those deals? I've got a horrible feeling he's the real 'face' of Watford and we use him to sell the club to potential signings, rather than Giaretta or Scott or whoever else is lurking around at the club.
To be fair, those are (mostly) decent signings. Maybe it's the other agents we use that are the issue??
Every single piece of January business was restricted to Mogi Bayat clients. Doesn’t that worry people how much he has his claws into Pozzo?
Who have we bought this season not tied to Bayat. King, Fletcher, Nkoulou. All free agents. Anyone else? Surely every transfer fee doesn’t do through him!
This also says Sierralta and Dennis have updated their contracts. I don't remember Sierralta getting an extension but the club never tell us anyway. God knows what we've done with Dennis.
All look to be good business though ? A bit odd, but if he delivers…? As pointed out elsewhere it seems to be the non Mogi deals that are poor.
All good business? Winter window has a midfielder and winger who can’t get in the team. Dennis obviously good and generates £15m profit. He is somehow involved in a Udinese to Watford transfer. Louza this season hasn’t delivered a 9m euro performance. I do think he looks good though so let’s call it a push. Sissoko dunno - Been unwhelming. Kucka a disaster as we have to sign him for next season. Etebo injured so who knows how it would have worked out. To call it “all good business” is ridiculous. Which other agents do you have a problem with given we have signed nobody else aside from free agents! I am staggered that anyone can be comfortable with all transfer business being though one agent, especially for such mediocre players. I am very angry with you TuT.
I don't know what it is but it certainly reeks. People on the forum have joked about Mogi for a while and I never looked into it but a quick Google search certainly brings up some worrying stuff. He was at the heart of a investigation into fraud in the Belgian League. He was behind the Oulare signing. He's head of transfers for Nantes who to be fair are doing pretty well this season. And to top it all of Nantes displayed this sign at a game!?
Since 2017, FC Nantes have signed 12 players from Jupiler League clubs or represented by Mogi Bayat. As a reminder, this Iranian-Belgian agent, implicated in corruption and money laundering, is considered Nantes' sporting director by all the agents and presidents of Ligue 1. https://twitter.com/2FReport_/status/1425860149147803648
I like my job a lot. I was able to sell (Ismaila) Sarr to Watford whilst being “focused” on Nantes.” He was involved in the Sarr deal despite not being his agent? https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.c...nelson-mandela-in-surreal-radio-intervention/
It’s not ideal. I’m off tomorrow so gonna deep dive into how many deals Mogi Bayat has actually been involved since the Pozzo’s took over. Will write about it ofc, fully expecting the Pozzo do no wrongers to get at me no matter what they do
This might be helpful: https://www.lavenir.net/sports/foot...s-lapres-footgate-MGEQLLLFHZE7JEVGDU424D45BI/ Now lives in London and is a regular fixture at our training ground. Expected to face trial in 2023 in Belgium.
The business with Mogi hasn’t been bad in and of itself for the most part - seems to be more hits than misses - but reliance on one agent hasn’t ended well for any club that has done it. The incentives are all off. That’s why Wolves ended up backing off from Jorge Mendes (who obviously has far superior connections to Bayat) because at a certain point the agent convinces your best players they’d rather be elsewhere if it suits them best. That’s always bothered me more than Bayat’s shadiness. Either way, I haven’t done the math but I reckon agents fees will be twice the proportion of our transfer outlay versus any other PL club which is totally unacceptable. You’d think that one perk of doing all your business through one agent is that at least he’d provide some sort of ‘mates’ rates’ but given these numbers that’s clearly not the case.
He also seems to be acting as a joint agent in a lot of these transfers and they don't appear to be his clients. So what exactly is he doing for us? I can't imagine other agents would just accept their fee being halved so are we paying more than the going rate?
But if he’s taking such an active role in all our deals can’t we just give him a £2m consultancy/DoF role rather than constantly funnelling fees to him?
