The Manchester United goalkeeper has excelled during a his lengthy loan spell at Vicarage Road, which has taken in all of last season as well as their return campaign in The Premiership. And with Edwin van der Sar signing a new contract at Old Trafford and Tomasz Kuszczak moving to the Reds this summer, it is hard to imagine Foster having a future in Manchester. Yet there will always be a place for him with the Hornets, as manager Adrian Boothroyd explains. "They will have to fight me for him," Boothroyd said. "No he stays here all season. He has been absolutely superb this season and he will be a better goalkeeper from what he has been having to face week in, week out." How much would he be tho?
Anything up to 4 million. He's going to get 5 times as good over the next few years. If we could sign him permanently, I'd be well happy.
Much as I'd love to see his move permanent I think with our limited budget we have soem more pressing piriorities. Mind you if Aidy can get the other 5 in that he wants on frees then why not?
Everyone says he will be englands number 1 so i really don't see Man U selling him if he is going to be that good we would need to pay about 5 million to even have man U interested!
If Foster can stay major injury free he'll be the top goalie in Division 1(Assuming we get relegated). If we stay in the Premiership(I hope) he'll be second best. Gonna be kinda expensive though.
If we get relegated the I reckon it would be far more likely that he'd go to another Premiership club rather than us. He has shown this season that he is an outstanding goalkeeper, which has been remarked upon often in the press and I can't imagine that it has missed the attention of other clubs.
Very rare we get positive comments in the press, but when we do it is usually linked to Foster in some way or other.
i dont think we'll sign him yet, we have a limited budget and need to spend it on other positions. and if we do go down i also doubt he'd come on loan here, but lee is easily capable of filling in if he keeps up the hard work.
Agreed. Why spend much needed money on a player that is currently playing for us for next to nothing.
Foster would be a great signing, but i can't see it happening. Maybe if we stayed up (and got that extra £50 mil) there would be a chance because Ben clearly enjoys playing for us. But Sir Alex is the stumbling block...If he is serious about Foster being in his plans then not even the money of Chelski could tempt him to sell imo. One more season on loan (hopefully!), which ever league we are in, see how Loach develops and then see whether we need to sign a 2nd keeper (the division we are in will no doubt affect that decision).
I doubt we'll sign Foster permanently. 1. He'll cost more than we can afford as we need to make investments elsewhere. 2. We have a capable replacement in Rich Lee who has impressed this season when given a chance. If we can get him another season on loan we will, but I doubt it'll happen if we go down. The question will be whether we'll opt for Lee or a new keeper as first choice. I hope Lee. I have no idea how Loach is getting on - but maybe he will come into the frame also after next season.
Why won't we get Foster for another season if we go down. We had him last season in the Championship.
I know - but he's proven himself in the big league now - therefore United will have no qualms about sending him here again. And I think there are probably a few clubs interested.
why would man utd want to sell a guy whos been in the england squad without even playing a game for them? they only bought kusack (sp?) so they could farm him out to get some experience, theres no doubt that he is their no 2 keeper
Kusczak is their no.2 keeper. They spent £2.5mil on him and he was brilliant for them this season when van der Sar was injured.
http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=32442 i stand corrected! still dont see them selling him though
But the way SAF has been to WFC if we go down he won't be bothered if BF is playing Champ football, so long as he's playing regularly.
