I have never understood why people care about the views of rival fans. They are the least logical thoughts humans have ever created in all of history (and the same goes for Watford fans views of other teams).

Insecurity. The constant whining about the lack of gratification from pundits and rival fans smacks of insecurity.

I just go along and cheer for my local team cos I enjoy it. Why should I care what some middle aged bloke who lives up north thinks about that? The only thing I feel is pity for that man for wasting his time contriving thoughts on something so irrelevant.

I enjoy reading their forums and especially their pre-match thoughts on their games against us.

Their forums show that they all have the same insecurities as us, they have the same inane arguments, and they show that we all have common loves and common hates i.e. who should play, who shouldn't, how the team performed, what the crown are like... etc etc etc

Their pre-match assessments also make interesting reads and are a good indication of how they are seeing their team, and more honestly than any pundits.

    I'l carry on reading them.

I've asked the same question and have yet to receive an answer. Recent experience would suggest that posts don't disappear entirely unless of course someone has simply pretended to hit the ignore button but hasn't actually done so which would be entirely different.

On getting poked in the eye. Everyone on here must have been poked in the eye at some point. I certainly have and on a few occasions even accidentally done it to myself.

It hurts like hell and the contact doesn't have to be hard. The merest brush of the sensitive surface of the eye is enough. The reaction has always been the same:

    - Put hand over eye
    - Be still
    - Be quiet
    - Continue until pain goes away a bit

The reaction has never been to lie down and thrash about on the ground.

I do give them a peruse from time to time too, my point was more directed at the extremely ignorant comments that one sometimes find there. I find it impossible to care, get annoyed or even feel anything about such comments!

You have to take into account cultural differences. Monty Python got it right when talking about flesh wounds. Knockwotshisname was grievously injured in our penalty area, allowing us to score. In some cultures it is expected that you lie down when hurt. This allows time for a gorgeous nurse to come and attend to your wounds. When I shared a house with nurses I was always lying down hurt.

I am in both your camps. I actually enjoy reading opposition forums but feel faintly amused, rather than wound up, by the more extreme comments towards us. Also, I'm sure most of our 'rivals' could have a similar thread to this and find some gems written on here about them.

The only time I've felt compelled to actually register on another forum to 'answer back' was recently on that Molineux site but that was obviously a different matter entirely.

You get a message on a greyed out post, saying you can't see this message as this user is on your ignore list.

There's a button to view post anyway.

You'll feel tempted to press button to see how idiotic your ignored person has been this time. You'll feel surprised when it's not all that bad.

I ignore people who can't have an equal debate about something without resorting to snide comments or quadrupling the volume of times they repeat the same thing. As if saying it over is more evidence they are right. They'll also claim their point is correct as they've produced (dubious) facts to support, and you're reasons are your opinion only, often ignoring there are factual accuracies in your argument. Then they'll get offended you don't respect their opinion despite being passive aggressive to yours.

Ignore for a few weeks then unignore.

Thank you for your very full advice. I have now taken your and Meister's advice and hit the necessary button. I hope this will have the affect of fitting a new washer in the dripping tap ...

Hmm, I'm guessing that you've either:
    (a) included the wrong quote of mine in your post above and meant to include the one where I wondered about the ignore button
    Or
    (b) are letting me know that I'm on your newly discovered 'ignore' list as you're fed up with my lame grammar-based 'bantz'

Why would anyone use the ignore function? If a message board can wind you up that much, then you need to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror (Unless you're that ugly you break mirrors, then you get years of bad luck on top of your anger issues)

I rarely look at a username before reading the post, I like the ignore button as it saves me having to read some of the **** put out by certain posters before realise it was a waste of time.

I've had a couple on it before (none at the moment), but only when a large number of their posts are made purely to make or continue an argument. It's not about getting wound up, I read this forum to talk about football, not read people bickering.

Agree, I feel no desire to use it. I generally use my own, internal 'ignore' button with posts that are aggressive/annoying and, after I have spent a milli-second being annoyed by them, move on.

It's nothing to do with being wound up. I simply don't want to waste my time reading inane posts by people who never add anything to a discussion and seem to come here purely to take shots at other posters.

Why not simply note the name of the poster and just refrain from reading his/her contribution? It's not rocket science!

Ha HH24. I think you're well aware that I have no issues with you whatsoever. My post was simply in reply to Hornpete's very helpful advice re. the ignore button. Like you I am grammatically anally-retentive and challenge you to a grammatically correct posting competition in which grammar goal dfference should of course be worth ...

This was my view and why I was reluctant to I use it. However, chinese water torture can get to you in the end and is a very sad tactic really despite what might have gone before. So having decided to use it, I can now recommend it in extremis.

Apologies HH24. I would seem to have hit some sort of button which is leaving your post attached to all my replies to others on this thread. Hence the confusion. I will attempt to remedy this but like you I'm a bit of a techno-luddite.

Why do that when I can hit ignore once and then never again have to spend time deciding whether or not to read it?

    It's not rocket science!

You've clicked the little "+ thing next to the "Reply With Quote". For some reason even after replying once, it keeps it selected as if you want to reference it in every further post you make. It's infuriating.

Amazed at their predictions tbh... I think we'll win it but certainly not by the drubbing they seem to be expecting. 2-1 a much more likely result

If we score early we'll obliterate them. The longer they can keep us at bay the better the chance they have.

Some said it ruined their season - well they are in the top 6 without the bloke (who might have been re-called by Palace anyway) so are they saying with Williams they'd be top?
