Bobby's goal, partly explains why I have always said that movement up front is so valuable. He received it wide left, and Gerry ran wide of him, distracting a defender, opening up Bobby's run inside. Then, as he entered the area, Hughes runs to the left, Success moves into space on the edge, centrally, again distracting defenders, then Doucoure offers himself on the right. That movement helps distract and confuses defenders, and in this case, Bobby's slightest of body swerves, and the goal opens up. Still woeful defending, though. It doesn't need world class players to create that movement, you actually see it on parks every Sunday morning. It just needs a team ethic, selflessness, and fitness. We still need a more clinical goal scorer/poacher in my opinion. We can't rely on individual brilliance every week.
I see you refer to Pereyra and Deulofeu as Bobby and Gerry, yet are still formal with Success and Doucoure!!. I guess you don't know Doucs and Issy quite as well?
Booo! I've got that comment saved to notepad for an instant pasting the split-second after we succumb to our next defeat.
An "off topic" question. The only stream I could watch here in Vancouver had Arabic commentary so I missed some subtleties - I approve of Remembrance Ceremonies but why the silence at this match a full two weeks prior to Remembrance Day?
I thought it was a bit embarrassing for the many Germans on the Udders side that it was stated that the servicemen died "for our freedom". Those 3 words could easily have been cut out so the German dead could have been included. No reason not to, at this distance in time
That is what I think as well, he probably was annoyed that he did not take the many chances that he created and were created for him. Don't forget he is not long back from injury and I'm sure he knows that Gracia is just managing his path back to full fitness.
Exactly what I said to my Mrs. this morning when I read a write up about the game. They were posing exactly the same question, was it a great goal or just poor defending. The media would never do that if it was a so called big player who scored that goal, it would just have been what a world class quality goal they had scored even if they were playing against the same Huddersfield defenders
A bloke in a MoPlay hoodie was high fiving the 'fan' and the 'steward' in the area in front of the 1881 after this stunt Seemed really pleased and appeared to be under the impression that the gag had been hilarious would now go 'viral' Bizarre
A truer 161 words has not been said. I like the idea of players of players having to go round and put their stray socks back on before they can kick off again.
Short memory Moog, no way was that Britos: 1. The steward appeared to have excellent ball control. 2. The drunk fan would have been taken clean out on the edge of the box giving him a free kick in a dangerous area.
He looks suspiciously like that "photographer*" who was doing a photo-shoot with Ryan Giggs(?) a few years back which ended up as a ball juggling competition. *Who, amazingly, also turned out to be some "Freestyle" football champion.
Liked for 'sparodic'. I feel this word has great potential and should be signed-up before one of the top 6 notice it.
Where does this toe-curling 'sketch' stand on the all-time list of cringe-worthy half time 'entertainments'? Below Harry & Harriet's marriage? Above that X-Factor boyband singing their 'hit'? Where is the quality control? Should they be sacked? And where was the half-time shoot-out (which incidentally does nothing to promote girls' football given that most of them kick the ball like it's the first time they've ever done so)?
Although I realise this year is the centenary of Armistice Day, I'm not sure that's the reason. This country has gone poppy and remembrance bonkers in recent times and it creeps further forward each year. In the past it used to be the game nearest 11th Nov would have a minutes' silence, whether home or away. That was perfectly right and suitably sombre. Then clubs started doing their own events if they had a game the week before. Yet with it being shoehorned in yesterday it's highly likely our players will now have to observe three minutes' silences and various ceremonies in consecutive weeks. It's objectively becoming a bit weird. In my opinion, the club would have got it spot on yesterday if they had just promoted the poppy appeal and reminded people that, as there wasn't a home game nearer the date, they might wish to attend their own local events if they wanted to pay respect. Still, it was no where near as strange as piper they wheeled out last year.
I agree. It's absurd but if the club don't do it they will no doubt get sent death threats from all the militant remembrance cranks.
It's usually down to whether I can spell the names without checking. It was one of the few reasons that I preferred Troy in the side.
Thought I’d look at the Huddersfield forum to see what they thought of us (I know it doesn’t really matter). Not many comments, obviously concentrating on their own team, but they did say we were too good for them, much quicker and slicker with our passing and movement. One suggested we were the first team to have that great movement against them since Spurs played them off the park last season. They also felt there was a huge gulf in class between the GK’s and I’ve got to say as much as I loved Gomes I’m so pleased we got Foster in. Another great piece of business done!
It has kinda gone viral or are we not talking about it? I am sceptical whether the intent was to be discussed due to being toe curlingly cringy. But nonetheless its being discussed.
I like to think that the smell of my wee on that guys shoe drifting across the pitch went someway to mesmerising the Huddersfield defenders for Pereyra's goal. I'm claiming an assist in any case.
I wonder what campaign the "Defenders of Freedom" will be campaigning for this year - they've campaigned to "make" all PL teams wear them and "forced" FIFA to "allow" the home nations to wear them - I wonder what's (who's) next... I suppose the Autumn Rugby Internationals will be targeted for not showing enough "respect". My tribute to the "Poppy Madness": Spoiler: Look Away Now IF Easily Offended
It's absolutely crazy that due to fixtures and international games, we don't actually have a home game for a month now.
Only negative from yesterday was the total lack of atmosphere created by us. Embarassing when we're 2-0 up after 2 fantastic goals and we remain as quiet as we would be if we were 4-0 down to City. In contrast to the atmosphere against Spurs and United, yesterday was shockingly poor. In fact, when the 1881 drummer was allowed access on the balcony, the atmosphere was improved greatly. Yes, I know there was complaints about him being there, but something has to be done to help improve and encourage people to sing, or even clap. I noticed that last week against Wolves, as soon as we scored, Wolves fans all burst out chanting their rendition of "so and so had a dream" and instantly drowned out our chants - albeit only for 58 seconds. Apart from that, the performance yesterday was phenomenal. Only Man City have put more goals past Huddersfield this season so far so we can be very proud of ourselves. Even Liverpool struggled to put 1 past 'em. Furthermore, we never looked like conceding yesterday which is a massive leap forward for us considering we'd have probably ended up drawing that had we been managed by Silva.
Excellent result that - if we are not careful we will reach the 40 point mark by the halfway stage. How will we deal with the second half of a season unless we are biting our nails for the next point. Many positives from yesterday but have to agree that much as I loved Gomes and how brilliantly he has done for us over the years I though Ben Foster was magnificent. BBC said Huddersfield were poor in defence and attack which is a little harsh. In attack they produced several excellent chances and were denied by woodwork and great keeping. They were woeful in defence but as others have said you have to give credit to our forwards. Playing with pace and making runs at players unsettles all but the best defences. Their keeper was not good.
First half was some of the best football I’ve seen us play at the Vic. A period in the second half where we were under pressure (always going to happen no matter who you play) without ever really looking In danger. Foster sniffed out any hope they had of getting back into the game. My Mom. What a time to be a Watford fan! Still have to pinch myself. Only negative for me is that Hughes doesn’t offer enough on the right. Great player works hard. It’s a shame as I feel he would be better played down the middle but on current form of the team he won’t get in there l. Don’t think I’m saying drop him, I’m not. Up the horns
