I remember one of the forum geniuses claiming Villa’s last minute winner against us was a positive thing because it was a reality check.
I'm quite worried about our team of kids playing them in an empty stadium. Somewhat envious of Norwich and Bournemouth in at least the majority of their players futures are sorted one way or another. We've still not had an official departure (that should change in next hour or so).
This is our record versus Warnock, a mixed bag but some very memorable wins in there. I've list date, opponents, score and our manager at the time.
Sheffield United away under Betty and Leeds away under Zola were pretty good, as was the 1-3 at QPR in the Graham season.
I can confirm the 1-3 home loss v Notts County under Perryman was miserable viewing. Nicky Platnauer scored one for them I remember. Think we had the Ronald McDonald centenary kit as well to compound matters.
IIRC the very first one included a superb (if you can call it that) volley into the roof of the net by Keith Dublin for an own goal.
Controversial, but I liked the centenary kit and used to wear it all the time as a kid. I still have it safely tucked away somewhere.
Last time I remember us playing Boro we basically ensured promotion. I expect a win from this game to do the same.
Did you get that from a site or work it out for yourself? Would be quite tricky to correctly come up with that list, because of the many clubs he's managed so when you're looking up the head-to-head records, you have to make sure Warnock was actually managing the club at the time we played them (eg Warnock left Plymouth mid-season in 1996/97 so we only played his side once).
I'm going to make an early line-up prediction: Foster Dawson, Kabasele, Wilmot Ngakia, Chalobah, Cleverley, Estupinan Quina, Pedro Gray Wouldn't be surprised to see Dele-Bashiru or Suarez start though. Would love to see us spring a surprise and start Sarr, but I think it's unlikely.
I reckon he will play Foster Janmaat, Cathcart, Kabs, Kiko Penaranda,Chalobah, Cleverley, Pereyra Sinclair Deeney
Could be right. Presumably there's been no word from the club as to how bad Gray's injury was against Spuds?
Norwich I don't think have sold anyone yet, albeit it seems as though they have plugged the areas in which their key players are likely to leave. Wouldn't be praising Bournemouth too much, have got rid of both Wilsons from last season's squad, Ramsdale and Ake, but they've still got players who will be out the door (you'd assume King and Brooks, and possibly some others too), and they will need reinforcements, but haven't brought in anyone yet. They were linked with a £1m bid for an Ipswich striker, which doesn't sound promising from their perspective!
Could do with Norwich and Brentford being picked a part a little bit more. Lewis just joined Newcastle so Norwich have lost their LB. could do with them losing Godfrey, Aarons and Buendia as well. Brentford lost Watkins which is great, need them to lose Henry and Benrahma at the least. Would also like them to lose Dasilva. Bournemouth are done. Biggest loss is Eddie Howe and replacing him with Jason Tindall. They have lost Ramsdale, Ake, Fraser, Wilson, Wilson and King is about to join Villa. They have to sell King or they lose him on a free in January. Seriously wouldn’t be surprised to see Bournemouth relegated again. As long as we keep Sarr, Estupinan, Suarez, Quina and Hughes, we have a great chance of storming the league. Promotion back to the Prem is worth £170-200mil according to the latest reports last year. This figure was publicized in multiple media outlets. Gino is a businessman. With promotion being worth that much, unless it’s a deal that he can’t say no too, I think we keep them. The wage bill can be reduced by selling the players who have been mentioned multiple times in various threads.
Who else do we play there? Hughes is probably still injured and we don't know what's happening with Capoue. At the back pick Sierralta/Cathcart at your leisure, but I imagine it will be unchanged from the Spurs game.
News: Hornets’ Injury Latest By: Watford FC Staff As pre-season line-ups have indicated, a number of injuries have prevented Vladimir Ivic from having a good look at all the players potentially at his disposal. Longer-term absentees have included Daryl Janmaat (knee) and Isaac Success (achilles). This did also include Gerard Deulofeu (knee), however now – as supporters may well have seen from social media channels – the Spaniard is expected to be back training with the squad next week, having stepped up his rehab some time ago. Troy Deeney is expected back training with the group very soon as well, having undertaken some intensive rehab work. Andre Gray’s hamstring strain, picked up against Spurs last weekend, will keep him out for a couple of weeks. And that’s the same timescale attributable to the wait before Will Hughes rejoins the squad for training having undergone a medical procedure during pre-season. A week before Gray’s knock, Adam Masina came off injured versus Scunthorpe United and the matter required surgical intervention. The operation went well, although he will be sidelined for several months. Experienced trio Etienne Capoue, Roberto Pereyra and Danny Welbeck haven’t yet been declared fit to join the first-team training group to this point, although all are expected to be available over the next few weeks.
Still no mention of Sarr......has he been erased? Etienne Capoue, Roberto Pereyra and Danny Welbeck haven’t yet been declared fit to join the first-team training group to this point Translates to Etienne Capoue, Roberto Pereyra and Danny Welbeck haven’t yet been sold and would have been disruptive to the group had they trained with everyone else. Once they realise no one else wants them they will join the first-team training group.
After the injury update: Foster, Bachmann, Parkes Femenia, Ngakia, Navarro Cathcart, Dawson, Kabasele, Wilmot, Siarrelta (?) Estupinan Cleverley, Quina, Chalobah, Dele-Bashiru Sarr, Penaranda, Pedro, Sinclair Suarez, Perica, Murray Masina, Success and Janmaat are long term injuries. Gray and Hughes are out for a few weeks. Deeney and Deulofeu are expected back in full training very soon. Capoue, Pereyra and Welbeck "haven’t yet been declared fit to join the first-team training group to this point, although all are expected to be available over the next few weeks."
Either that or we don't want them jeopardising a move by getting injured and sitting around on big wages so have come to an agreement with them that they don't play until the window shuts.
We look very light in midfield if Capoue isn't included, can see why they're looking for another centre mid option.
