His continued insistence that coaching basically can't change anything really does rustle my jimmies, that's for sure - it's also a concept laughably cast into the dirt by both Newcastle and Leeds' recent new-coach goofin'.
Not really. Plenty of lower premier league fans and those in championship and lower leagues enjoy their football pastime. We don’t because we have a diabolical owner that has turned our club into an awful organisation that many of us loathe, whatever division we are in.
I'm joining the waiting list for next season. The waiting list to be removed from the list of season ticket holders - there must be thousands of us on it!
Trouble is the new manager won't have any say on the squad for next season. If people come in for any of our players with decent money they'll be off and he'll get given a load of cast offs and kids. Then told he'll be sacked in 2 months if we aren't performing.
That could ruin us though. It’s not as simple as saying ‘stay down and reset’. We can reset whilst staying where we are or by getting promotion again. Gino won’t suddenly be swayed to change because we don’t get promotion. It goes beyond results on the pitch. And we don’t need a billionaire new owner. The debts don’t run into billions. A millionaire owner could clear the debts, take on new sensible investments/debt and run us in a far better way than Gino currently does. It doesn’t need billions.
In all honesty this thread sums it all up. No ones even arguing over anything as there is literally nothing to fight over.
Then what’s the point in waiting until the summer then? It’s the same if it’s now or then no? At least this way we get rid of Hodgson and a small, outside chance of some enjoyment.
Well we might get a shot on goal I guess. But a few defeats and the next manager will probably be sacked. There won't be any long term planning or even thinking about next season yet.
Obviously I can’t comment on the quality (or otherwise) of his coaching sessions, but the impression Hodgson gives me is of apathy. He comes across as being distant from the club, almost like an observer of our fate rather than somebody passionate about the team and the opportunity he’s been given to have one last footballing payday and battle the odds to keep us up. He gives the impression of being removed from it all, of nothing being his fault, of not actually really caring about us or if we stay up or go down. I wish he would be removed from it, literally.
2 horrendous goals given away and too many show ponies taking too many touches or doing the Riverdance in the final 3rd is my take on today's showing . As for the fight in the Rookery , one of the Leeds lads needs to work on his jab as you just get picked off if you just start windmilling .
As much as I have zero faith whatsoever in Pozzo, I really doubt anyone coming in now would be sacked before next season unless it’s someone with a contract for the last few games and then leave. I think any permanent coach coming in now would have a remit for next season. At the very least, if we could get Martinez to join in the summer, I’d be doing all I could to get it signed and announced now so the players might feel enthused by it.
Totally agree. ‘Damage was done before I got here so it has nothing to do with me that the car became a write-off rather than a repair job’
In fairness to Hodgson that’s kind of exactly what he is, he was dug out of retirement and given a four month contract with the remit of keeping us up. He knew he wouldn’t be here next season either way. He’s been made an observer of the club by our shambolic short-termist approach.
Yes, so I wish he’d sound more passionate about it and as though he’s the manager of the team and this is his club until May etc rather than coming across more like a pundit in his post match interviews and sounding like a neutral observer of our fate.
Yes I agree they'd get given the start of next season but we know the Pozzos don't hang around. The issue is which players will still be here too - I mean a lot wouldn't be missed. But agree if there is long term thinking and a plan in place then fair enough make a change.
Scratching my head at how we lost that 3-0. We actually played quite well. We were the better team until the second goal, but we just keep failing with the final pass and every home match someone makes a catastrophic error. Today it was Samir’s turn. I still think we’ve got a decent side, but it’s baffling at how poor we are at home. I watch us away, and we look like a decent competitive Premier League side. At home we are so easy to beat. I don’t really understand what the difference is. The fans are pretty good. Today they were supportive and are never hostile against our team. The pitch is perfect to play on also. Not too confident we’ll stay up now. It’s not over until it is, but it does look unlikely. But if the worst happens and we go down, I think we’ll do very well in the Champ as long as we keep the majority of the side together. So this time next year we could be looking forward to another automatic promotion.
It doesn't really matter whether we get rid of Hodgson now or not, it'll make little difference. Sure we should be trying to line up a manager for next season already, but even if we got one agreed I think it would be daft to bring them in to the club until this season is finished. You say because it might "salvage some spirit, mood and confidence" but that's an impossible task now this season - all it would do is tar them with the same defeats and inevitability of failure as is currently there in the squad. Next season will be a very different challenge, the goal will be wanting to win basically every game, not just avoid getting repeatedly battered which is all any manager can currently hope for. The new manager won't even have a lot of the same players to work with in pre-season to who are here now. It needs to be started anew, with as little a hangover from this terrible campaign as possible.
To go from a side winning ten consecutive matches at the Vic as recently as last August to now being one who’ve lost nine in a row at home just a few months later is one of the biggest swings any of us can probably remember.
3-0 was harsh but it was so no point in saying it was bad luck etc . That is the problem. We might have looked better in some eyes but still lost badly with no real shots on goal and the usual errors at the back . Toney will be licking his lips next week.
Once again in arguably the most important and pressured game of a season these losers completely crumble to a thrashing. Season after season of cowardice. Embarrassing.
I guess we are now in the territory of thinking who might be tougher opponents next season. Theoretical question I know, but who do you think would handle relegation better?
If Burnley managed to keep Dyche I’d say they’d be a much harder opponent than Everton anyway. Truth be told I don’t actually care at this stage so I would prefer Everton as it would be ridiculously funny.
I genuinely can't see how this side is a promotion hope. We only came up last time thanks to Sarr's pace being unmanageable at that level. Him aside, our squad was ordinary. It's now worse and will get worse still and we have no real likelihood of it being strengthened in any meaningful way. Whoever joins us we're looking at midtable most likely.
