Beko sponsoring us again? Decent, better than Stake!

I wouldn't want him starting every game, especially with our lack of service but feel he could still bag some goals as an impact sub if we're chasing a game. But yeah, he has the 2nd best goals per min ratio in the squad (for players to have played over 300 mins or more)

    JP - 0.47 goals per 90
    Bayo - 0.39 goals per 90
    Sarr - 0.32 goals per 90
    Davis - 0.27 goals per 90

Absolute ******* disgrace of a transfer that made zero sense at the time and less now.

    Hate this club.

    Not a great signing.
Only real value was as a last resort final 15 mins chasing a goal substitute. I wouldn’t have minded keeping him purely for that purpose but he clearly can’t cover for Davis when the latter was ill or injured, which is a problem.
Did we overpay based on his previous form? Possibly but maybe not as Reids has pointed out. Strikers are always more expensive esp those with a good goals/min record.
Does it smell a bit iffy because of the Bayat’s involvement? Yes of course, rightly or wrongly.

I can help with this. Given we are shipping him out after 6 months and given what we have seen with our own eyes we absolutely overpaid for him whatever Reids has to say. A transfer purely for the benefit of the Bayat brothers. Disgusting.

I’m talking about the position and facts at the time we bought him. Plenty of signings we’ve made don’t work out. Reids has put forward the case why the deal may not have looked outrageous had Bayat not been involved. Clearly he’s a goalscorer but poor player. Yes the Bayat involvement makes the poor deal look iffy. We’re all clear it has turned out to be a poor deal and we’re all entitled to our opinions whether this was a straightforward poor signing or something contrived.

Love how extreme the opinions are on this - mostly extremely dismissive of the player. It’s a shame that he is associated with Bayat, because it colours everything for many people. And because of Bayat, it’s an absolutely horrific, disgusting signing that no one in their right minds can justify. (That’s a less inflammatory way of saying that a person needs sectioning).

I get that he’s limited. But I also don’t think that Reids’ posts, which give reasonable and statistical analysis of the player, should be dismissed because Bayo is not the answer. And LeedsOrn is equally making the reasonable argument that Bayo is limited but not the utter joke of a player that some say he is.

Apart from his stroppy slow walk off, he doesn’t seem like a bad guy, or a toxic influence. He scored a few goals with limited game time, and would probably have scored a few more if he’d stayed. But he’s a Mogi Bayat player therefore he has the stench of the devil.

A "goalscorer" with a career total of a whopping 38 league goals, aged 26, with over a third of them being in the Slovakian league.

There is no argument that logically spins it as not being as outrageous as it looked, even completely ignoring Bayat's involvement.

Fair enough. Personally I find it astonishing that any fan would in any way justify thus farce but that is just me.

Again, an extreme reaction, failing to separate the player from the issue of shady dealing, which does stink.

Is reids or anyone else really justifying the signing though? Or are they posing an alternative view as to why we might have been interested in the player? I don't think anyone has said we didn't overpay.

If we'd signed a lad call Vince Barton for £3m after he'd scored 11 in 16 for a side in League One, with no Mogi meddling, there wouldn't be this outrage.

In the end, we slightly overpaid (£3m would be fair) for a limited striker, and put him in a side that didn't really suit his strengths.

I do think if he was a starter every week for a side in the Championship with lower expectations, who just feed balls into the box, he'd probably hit double figures, and his glaring weaknesses would be less smack-you-in-the-face obvious, as they are now.

The main annoyance for me is not the signing in and of itself, but the allocation of limited funds, where the money could have spent more effectively.

Says the poster who claims I think Bayo has “the stench of the devil”.

I don’t care if Bayo is a good guy or a bad guy. I’m not angry at him. I am angry about our owners, their relationship with the Bayats and some of our fans who still try to justify this nonsense.

Your last point is absolutely spot on and makes the whole thing to another level. We had very restricted funds in the summer. The £5m transfer to lubricate both Bayat brothers was done instantly on 2nd July. Budget gone. Bayats happy. Repulsive.

Also our system has changed since the start of the season which also flags up his weaknesses more I'd imagine. Bayo alongside a partner (like he had at Charleroi last season and at Toulouse...) I imagine is much better than Bayo up top by himself.

    I can help here.

If he wasn’t associated with Bayat, I’d still be 100% we have massively overspent on this ex-Celtic reserve. A few tap-ins that he nearly missed don’t change this.

(I accept Rotherham away was a good striker - but even Dominic Foley scored a screamer once)

Watching some people still desperately scramble to find reasons why this wasn't a disgraceful, mess of a signing is excellent.

Forget Bayat. The fact is we massively overpaid for a dog **** forward who can barely control a football, flopped in the woeful SPL and who has 38 career league goals in something like 8 years as pro, with over a third of them being in the ******* Slovakian league.

There is no excusing it whatsoever.

Didnt Pukki play 25 games in his one season. I know he didn’t do too well but still not sure that counts as “reserve”.

    Yes scoring 7 goals .

Most of them might have been sub appearances?

Saw this quote which explains why he struggled.

“Pukki himself later acknowledged the lack of impact he had made, admitting he initially felt playing in Scotland would be "easier" than in Germany.[21] He found the speed and physical nature of the game in Scotland difficult to adjust to, and stated "Scottish football is not easy. It’s not a bad league at al”

So probably a bit complacent and naive - I mean you probably are expected to hit it off straight away and impress there.

You’ve made that up about Pukki - I’ve never so much as said anything on here that could lead you to saying that.

And yeah - because the Greek guy has scored a hatful of goals at a higher level than Bayo ever has.

And ultimately this will be my last comment about it - I think it’s been said to death. But I don’t really care if Bayo had scored 20 goals and then moved back. This move represents so much that is/was wrong about how we have operated in terms of recruitment and beyond. I’m not really interested in discussions around his ability or goals etc. The whole thing has been a farce and any discussion about his ability or worth is whataboutism IMO.

I don’t think anyone with hindsight doubts that we overspent as the transfer hasn’t been a success.
Did we knowingly and deliberately overspend at the time to help out Bayat, or genuinely marginally overpay for a player with a good scoring record, who turned out to be a dud ?
I don’t know but I don’t think it’s crystal clear that it was a deliberate overspend as some think.
