It also seems to correlate with new signings and our manager changing away from a failing formation where we had no movement and no idea how to attack. Our main playmakers were basically our CB's for half the season.

Deeney will still play up front cause Mazzarri has to appease the fans. But he's trash. As fast as a rhinoceros and scores mostly from penalties. As long as we will insist on playing Deeney we won't get far in the PL. He's like poor old Arsene Wenger for me,thanks for the memories but more than happy to say bye for 20M !

With that cash I believe we should try and invest it in a player that is going to score 15+ goals in a season like Danny Ings did for Burnley or Austin when at QPR. A player with flair and excitement in his play style !

20 million for Deeney now would be great,as much as i hate to admit it he isn't getting any younger and isn't the quickest striker in the world,Hes at that age where players start decreasing he will become slower, less physical and lose some of his hunger for goals.

If we do decide to sell him (if the rumour is true) i would like to see us to try sign players such as Andre Gray,Danny Ings or even Connor Wickam as replacements.

I would be absolutely amazing if we even managed to sign Connor Wickham he's a bloody good player, with great potential also a good British talent and a definite improvement !

Hmmm I think we have some jokers who have joined the forum. Welcome boys. Though to be fair, Connor Wickham is a world beater. A top top top player, the sort we can only dream of sadly..

I'd drive him there myself if I had a pick up truck rather than a normal car.

Seriously, I don't think we would or should sell him unless it was for 30+ mill and we had a gabbiadinni type already signed and proven to replace him.

An 10 goal a season target man who is also a leader and talisman is a hard challenge to replace. Plus the guy is very likeable , great to have him at our club.

not even joking, when he is given the opportunity too play he actually seems to perform quite well and kind of plays the same role as Deeney. He is still young and i believe he could improve and maybe replace deeney.Only my humble opinion please dont lynch me

Your story might be a little more credible if there were indeed such a thing as a striped eagle. Eagles....Connor Wickham....if only I could see some sort of connection .....

The only ****ing flair you'd get from Charlie Austin would be the ones he was wearing at an 80s themed party.

  19. Not picking on you for this ZZ, but people have been saying this about Deeney throughout the Pozzo era, and the cash in price has gone from £5m to £30.

Personally, I think we have done pretty well by keeping hold of him and think we still can (that would be my preference), but as I have said before, since Quique made him just another player, he has not meant the same to us as he did in the Championship. Talk of him as our inspirational leader over these last two seasons has been very hollow when you consider the role he played, carrying - it seemed at times - and geeing up the team with practically every player citing him as inspirational, over the previous three seasons.

I believe he is still a damned good player that we would find it very hard to replace, but if he went, it would be the memories that would cause the most regret.

I acknowledge that he has admirable qualities that we would miss.

The problem with him is that he takes up the hyper-important role of striker/goalscorer and dominates the way we play going forward - yet contributes relatively few goals and assists.

Over the past two games, we have shown good signs of playing in a different way. On Saturday Okaka was, despite the way he looks, more mobile and made better runs than Deeney normally does and our play was more on the ground instead of being lumped up to Troy. But on his return on Tuesday, Deeney was actually more mobile himself, even making runs to the near post to meet Amrabats crosses on a couple of occasions, something he rarely does normally. He had a good game overall.

But longer term! If he stays, he needs to find a way to play that allows us to also play "a proper goalscorer," with pace, who will worry and stretch defences and create space for others as Deeney, on his own, is just too one-dimensional.

He also needs to come back in August fit and healthy and play properly for the whole season, not just the second half.

    ...in my view.

Deeney didn't score today. He's clearly put on weight since Tuesday.

Will be at least 5 months until he loses it, meaning he probably won't be fit for another 10. Sell him for 80 million quarter pounds.

It's all well and good getting 25 odd million for him but who would we replace with him. No players worth that sorta cash want to play for us because at this moment in time we are a small time Premiership club. We end up getting players from Europe a fraction of that noones heard of who tend to be either mediocre, get sent out on loan, or show potential then get injured.

Okaka is as good as Deeney, certainly more mobile.

Don't know why everyone gets excited over £25m for selling a player your never gonna see any of that money, enjoy the players we got who cares if you get £1m or £30m a player that shows passion and desire to play for the club should be priceless

Torn on this one, he has been our talisman for quite some time now, but for the right money could it be time to sell? :-\

Unless China come knocking it's not worth selling as we won't get 20m. Taking 15m for Deeney would seem pointless as it will cost more than that to replace him.

No, no. 'There are better strikers out there' and all that bull****. Hopefully Pickford can play up front.

25 mill for a striker that will be 29 years old next season is certainly something to get excited about, especially if the money is spent on two (Heck, even one!) Preyera quality signing.

Personally I don't care if he stays or goes, but I do know I want to see us bringing through a young-ish player with similar attributes (Ideally signing someone on a long term contract) as a future replacement, epecially if we continue to play with the lone striker supported by two attacking wingers. Okaka in my opinion is actually a better footballer than Deeney and should be given a run of games to see what he can do.

Can't wait to see Preyera, Succes and Niang supporting whoever starts up front next season.

It really struck me on Saturday what an average footballer Troy is, especially after Okaka came on. There were a few times where he just had to control the ball and it shot off his foot in the opposite direction. His affect on the team and fans is unquestionable but this season has been the first time he's been challenged for his starting place by a striker arguably better than him, certainly technically. Whether that pushes him to leave or get better over the summer remains to be seen but going into our third season in the Premier League I think we should be aiming for a better standard of number 9.

I'm pretty sure the Troy Deeney we see on the pitch now would never have got up for the overhead kick Okaka nailed.

Firstly, we won't get £25million for Troy at any stage. He is destined to stay at Watford until he is 32/33 and will then go and play for Birmingham for a couple of seasons. And frankly I'm quite happy about that - I accept that he isn't giving MoTM performances every week but we have a striker scoring double figures in the PL. Those are difficult to find and keep whatever way you look at it. We have one so we should be aiming to keep him and add another striker who can do the same.

And whilst I appreciate this is all about everyones own opinions, Okaka is not as good or better than Troy. Not even close.

  35. J.B

Okaka was very good when he came on on Saturday, but aside from that and a decent display against Sunderland he has been pretty terrible for a while.

The idea of him being anywhere near as good as Deeney can only really be entertained when he begins to offer more than one good game every couple of months.
