Anyone heard anything about Jonson Clarke-Harris? I heard from a completely unreliable source that we're doing a deal for him.

Mogi never lets us down. It's a YES from me.

Well he's certainly no Ivan Toney, but 12 in 41 for a **** Peterborough team last season seems respectable. Can't say I've heard anything about the rumours tbf

Yeah it’s a friend of a friend situation so it’s probably nonsense.

5 of them were penalties though. He’s also turning 28 fairly soon so not particularly young. Could do worse but this would be fairly uninspiring.

Let's hope it's completely unreliable - the guy has scored at only half the rate of the likes of Keinan Davis, Gyokeres, Semenyo, Riis Jakobsen etc.

If he was cheap I'd have him as a sub, but would be underwhelmed if he was our main CF.

How much of that is down to the fact that Peterborough are toilet?

Suspect it's a load of rubbish though, and I suspect our backup 'big man' up top will be Fletch...

Yeah it's hard to tell, but Lucas Joao scored at twice the rate as him for Reading even though they finished only 1 place and 4 points above them.

JCH does appear to be Peterborough's best player at least, for what it's worth. I just had a look at all his goals from this season and they tended to be solid, well-struck finishes, but without knowing how many other chances he's got that he's missed it's hard to make a full conclusion.

Based on limited information it just seems as if he'd be decent at this level but unlikely to be a Mitrovic or Solanke even in a better side.

Seems to be a good striker/scorer.

Did well for Reading the season before and they really tailed off when he got injured and wasn't till late in this season he got back to fitness I think?

  13. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

They earned 10 points more, Reading on paper are a far far better side than Posh, plus Joao has a fantastic track record in the division. If we were to sign JCH, I don't think anyone would be expecting him to become the next 25 goal Championship striker (the person who can identify that player AND strike a deal for them for us deserves a knighthood!), but I'd be happy enough with him as backup, especially if Fletch stays out in America

  14. lowerrous

    lowerrous First Team

That's a fair point - a large part of why Reading are so far down the table this season is indeed because he got injured in the 4th game of the season.

He was very good last season as well; could have been a decent signing in the summer for us though would have cost some dosh.

Yeah I did say in my first post that I'd be fine with him as a cheap backup, but that would also involve us hopefully still signing one other good striker.

    I literally had no idea.

That does put JCH's scoring record in a marginally more flattering light I guess.

Made these lists a while ago, also before Edwards was hired, so ignore the winger suggestions. Some of these players probably aren’t ready, some are unrealistic, some out of our price range (which is £500k or less), some overlap with their parent club and on loan club, (couldn’t be bothered to delete them), and some could make an impact and join us. Lowerrous will tell us which is which, so this should keep him busy for a day.

City have so many top talents: Liam Delap, Tommy Doyle, Callum Doyle, and Tyler Harwood-Bellis too. All plausible loans. Tino Anjorin at Chelsea/Huddersfield (been injured a lot this season but a top talent is another as are Dishon Bernard at United/Hull and Ben Davies of Liverpool/Sheff Utd. Reckon we could get the latter on a perm deal as I think we could go higher than £500k on one or two deals this summer.

If we want a LWB, Ryan Giles on loan/perm seems a good option. Managed twice by Edwards for Wolves youth and Telford. Don’t know if Wolves have many exciting young prospects (they have a bunch out on loan at Grasshopper in Switzerland) but I wonder if we’ll be able to lean on the Edwards-Wolves link which runs pretty deep.

In terms of Championship CFs who could fit the profile, I think Emil Riis at Preston and Michael Obafemi at Swansea would both fit the bill, fairly young, good all round players with a lot of upside. But probably looking at £5m+ for either. Keinan Davis too but he’s probably headed to Forest on a perm. Cameron Archer (also from Villa) excelled at Preston but more of a poacher.

    Plenty there I'd take.
Darling and Twine 100% Darling at the Dongs looks superb. Comfortable on the ball, very good passer and drives out of defence with the ball. We need a central defender who can do this and he's already shown is ability to play in a three. Twins record says it all. Absolutely no doubt they'll both be Championship players next season.
Plymouth's keeper needs looking at but we have far too many already.
Lee Buchanan another yes, good backup to Kamara on the cheap. Swift is a position we desperately need and has very good figures in the Championship.
Clarke decent left footed defender but isn't the fastest.
Semenya, Obafemi should be the forward types we look at I hope.
But a good list with some quality players on there.

Foster has been crap all season and came second in POTS.

Seen by many EFL analysts as a future England number 1 or a mid table PL keeper by the very least. Just 22 and in the team of the season. Won the Golden Glove and Plymouth’s POTS as well. A really good all round keeper - shot stopping, distribution and command of area all good. I think he’ll go to Norwich or Burnley (to replace Pope) for £3-5m or so this summer.

Not saying I’d do it - but just seen Cenk Tosun has left Everton and it wouldn’t really surprise me if Gino sees that as an opportunity.

My point was less about him and more about Foster. I don’t know anything about the Plymouth guy. But I doubt he’d be coming here to be No.2 anyway so it’s fairly moot.

Christ on a bike, that will keep me busy. I'll ignore most the wingers on the list unless adaptable to another position or particularly intereting for the aforementioned reason.

I'll go over a few more of the players later, but here are some quick initial thoughts on some of them. I've bolded those who seem possible and worth considering, and put in italics 'maybes'.

    League One

Luke McNally - Oxford - CB - 2024 - I would like for him to be a top prospect as he seems quite highly rated, is meant to be decent at bringing the ball out from defence which would be good in a back 3, and should be obtainable; but I looked him up a few weeks ago and something killed it for me - he runs like an absolute muppet. It may seem odd that after my comment on Kabs acting unusually yesterday I should pick this out with McNally, but that's just a coincidence. Check 1:16 of the vid below for an example, he's at the bottom-right of the screen running back, number 16. He looks a wally, and that running style will ultimately severely limit his recovery pace. I suspect he'd be even more exposed to simple balls over the top than Cathcart and that's going to put a ceiling on his ultimate level.

Ross Stewart - Sunderland - ST - 2023 - been discussed before. Can't see him being sold now they've gone up unless we offer more than he's worth.
Scott Twine - MK Dons - CAM - ? - been discussed on here quite a lot already. Wouldn't say no if he wasn't a huge fee that ate all our budget, because there's a caveat that he'll also need pacy forwards and lots of movement around him which we don't currently have for next season.
Barry Bannan - Sheff Weds - CM - 2023 - Really?! He's good at what he does but 32 and would be no more than a mid-table Champ player now I think.

Luke Woolfenden - Ipswich - CB - 2024 -Has a calmness on the ball and ability to break forward from deep, but seems to have a distinct lack of recovery pace. Has signed a new contract until 2025.
George Edmundson - Ipswich - CB - 2025 - Not entirely error-free, but definitely seems one to consider. He seems to have a presence and Ipswich fans were raving about him. A minor concern is he has missed the last couple of months of the season with an ankle ligament injury.

Ross Sykes - Accrington - CB - 2023 - his stats seem decent but he appears really clumsy when defending in all the clips I can find of him.

Harry Darling - MK Dons - CB - ? - seems very good attacking from deep and also scoring from set-pieces. Is maybe a bit passive and timid defensively? Still young though. Could be alright as one of the side CBs.

    Championship Players

Krystian Bielik - Derby - DM - 2024 - As many are no doubt aware he's excellent when fit but a massive crock. Would be a big risk.
Michal Helik - Barnsley - CB - 2023 - a good no nonsense defender. But a bit of a hoof merchant. Similar to Troost-Ekong in that respect. Would only function as the central one of a back 3 and as such him being worthwhile might depend on what we plan for T-E and Sierralta.
John Swift - Reading - CAM - 2022 - Will likely go to a PL club I suspect, annoyingly.
Keane Lewis-Potter - Hull - CAM - 2023 - has PL eyes on him. No chance.

Antoine Semenyo - Bristol City - ST - 2023 - I'm a fan. Could be pricey though or PL bound.
Joel Piroe - Swansea - ST - 2024 - prob too expensive and out of reach. There'll prob be better options around for the fee.

Ryan Ledson - Preston - DM/CM - 2023 - He's shown potential in the past. With only one year left on his deal could be a cheap sub, but Preston fans seem to think he's declined recently and so he's probably not necessarily any more useful than who we already have.
Ben Whiteman - Preston - DM - 2024 - He seems alright, Preston fans rate him higher than Ledson, but they'd probably want more for him than the benefit we'd gain.

Rob D1ckie - QPR - CB - 2023 - He's a good defender and has a lot of qualities we're currently missing. He'll surely leave this summer as well with just one year left, but I suspect he'll be PL bound.

Chris Willock - QPR - CAM - 2023 - QPR actually have an option for an extra year on his contract (so I think it'll be until 2024). He'd likely be too expensive and/or out of reach.

Jake Cooper - Millwall - CB - 2023 - similar to Helik, though Helik might have a slight edge on him as a defender. A lack of mobility could be an issue.

Jed Wallace - Millwall - RM - 2022 - he's good at the moment, though I wonder how many seasons he's got left in him? How useful he'd be would also depend on whether we had someone like Zinckernagel or Twine already in the squad.

Ben Brereton - Blackburn - ST - 2022 - he's good but would likely be way too expensive. Also, does anyone know why he won't off the boil so much in the latter part of the season?
Jan Paul van Hecke - Blackburn (Brighton) - CB - 2023 - Blackburn fans think he's destined for bigger things than them and wouldn't be surprised if he was back at Brighton next season, but I wonder if he'd still be a bit too wet behind the ears to be worth taking on loan.
Joe Rothwell - Blackburn - CM - 2022 - would he offer more than say Gosling in the team? He adds ability from set-pieces though, which may or may not give an added benefit to the squad.

Dael Fry - Boro - CB - 2023 - they'd probably want too much for him and he'll prob go to the prem.

Joe Worrall - Forest - CB - 2024 - would likely be too expensive and they could go up anyway.

Levi Colwill - Chelsea - CB - 2025 - There's rumours that Lampard wants him at Everton. I'll keep an eye on him in the playoff final in case Huddersfield don't go up and Everton don't sign him, but he seems very highly rated. Left-footed and good on the ball, which are both pluses.

Robert Atkinson - Bristol City - CB - 2024 - He seems one to watch, but sounds very inconsistent at the moment. Would probably be too expensive and maybe a bit too soon for him this season, but worth keeping an eye on for a year's time.

Viktor Gyokeres - Coventry - ST - 2024 - I like, but would prob be too expensive and maybe PL bound.
Gustavo Hamer - Coventry - DM - 2023 - not sure he's really good enough. Similar style to Louza maybe.
    Callum O’Hare - Coventry - CAM - 2024 - I don't rate him that much.

  32. LeedsOrn

    LeedsOrn Reservist

No idea on viability but if we do have a bit of money to spend, I think Gyokeres is the one we should go for. I don’t think he’ll get a PL move and certainly not as a starter. Would cost £5-10m. Really good all round game and improving at a frightening rate.

£5-10mil would be very good if true, but sounds optimistic.

I think at least one of O’Hare, Hamer and Gyokeres gets sold. If they sell one of the others, Gyokeres becomes more expensive.

  35. SerbianHornet

    SerbianHornet First Year Pro

Jean Michael Seri anyone? Just been released by Fulham after his contract ended. If we could get him to sign on reasonable wages, he'd be an excellent signing I think. Watched quite a lot of Fulham because of Mitrovic and he's been excellent + has been excellent everytime I've seen him play for Ivory Coast.
Swift ad Reading was probably the best midfileder in the Championship this season and if a Premier League club doesn't come for him he'd be a perfect signing. Hamer would be quite good too.

As for strikers, I'd like Lucas Joao, who I've seen was mentioned here. Injury prone, but an excellent striker. Qyokeres looks very promising, he too could be a good option I feel.
