    Absolutely, thought the same. Wondered at the time if he was worried about the public perception that he had replaced smiling golden boy CW by showing favouritism to one of his ex players.

    Its covered in GTs autobiography. The FA influenced his decision by indicating they didnt want someone of TC's ilk selected. He was considered a 'bad boy' from his Birmingham days and the FA wanted to be squeaky clean. GT regretted not going against the FA and picking him anyway.
