Bournemouth were already in the Champ and short on funds when they got £20mil for Danjuma. Brentford the same when they got £22mil for Benrahma. Even a sulking Dennis would destroy the Champ. We'd be well within our rights to immediately laugh anything below £20mil out the door and push for more, and there are more than enough reasons and evidence to expect that there will be clubs willing to pay above that for a player of his ability.
Bournemouth have an owner worth 10x Gino and has just chucked loads of money at promotion two seasons after they were relegated. Brentford are a well run debt free club with no need to sell their players unless they want to. Norwich are debt free and had just been promoted when they sold Buendia. None of the players you listed were sold in remotely the same circumstances as Sarr and Dennis be. Of course Dennis would destroy the championship, but if you think he’ll set foot on the pitch in it you’re living in a fantasy world.
Dennis will do that thing where they give us a bit of hope by having him around for the first Championship game and then he'll swiftly be off. If him and Sarr both go to Udinese I will be fuming though.
Bournemouth were considered to be in an even worse situation than us when we were both relegated. Plus the "loads of money" they supposedly "just chucked" at promotion is still only half of what they received for Danjuma in the summer. As much as Brentford are supposedly "well run" their budget was still very small, they'd be paying low wages, and they'll have had little ability to reject good offers from PL clubs for their players - when a good offer came in for their players their players will have generally desperately wanted to move to play in the PL and massively increase their wages. The relative debt isn't necessarily an issue when it's only a percentage of what is an overall a larger revenue stream and over what timescale it needs to be repaid. We were able to refuse crap offers for Sarr the last time we were relegated, under even more dire financial circumstances than would be the case this time around. It clearly showed that we're able to hold out for market rate for our players to at least the same extent as someone like Brentford. I also never expected I'd see a £35mil Ismaila Sarr play in the Championship either, but it happened.
After Bournemouth have spent two years in the championship they could still outbid us for players we were after. We only kept Sarr because of Covid and having other saleable assets we no longer have. You’re tying yourself in knots.
He won’t play. He’ll be sitting in the Upper GT watching the first game along with 10 other players that we’ll have training separately from the squad whilst we try and find someone to buy them. I’m hoping this can become a tradition.
Who's that then?! Lol, if anything Covid should have made us more desperate to have to sell him, but we still held out in case a fair offer came in. Things shouldn't be quite as desperate this time. You are. I've clearly and consistently pointed out loads of things which demonstrate to you exactly how and why Dennis is worth minimum £20mil and that it shouldn't be very difficult to find clubs willing to pay at least that. All you've done is made a few lame attempts at undermining this with zero actual supporting evidence, in a desperate attempt to continue to try and justify your original misguided claim.
Not quite true, Covid dramatically changed the short term spending power of the big boys and for whatever reason made Sarr more willing to stick around, those two factors together allowed us to keep him. The £20m from the Doucs sale can't have hurt either.
Let’s not rewrite history — best player vs Villa, best player vs West Ham and the only one consistently getting into good positions to score. Also “the stats” are just your interpretation, doesn’t make your opinion right
Lol, wrong. My original post was: "We might not quite get £30mil for him, unless it's Newcastle bidding, , but £20-25mil is the minimum reasonable fee which we'll be likely to receive and consider. Again, it'll 100% be closer to £30mil than £3/4mil." Everything I've said since then, including my post above which you've quoted but then falsely represented in your continued desperation, has been completely in line with that statement.
You spent ages referencing a load of players some of which went for more then £30m but a minimum of £22m, to then only turn round and say we’ll probably get £20m for him. Laughable.
You keep misrepresenting what I said in your desperation. The only thing "laughable" are your pathetic attempts to falsely portray what I said and/or your lack of reading comprehension. I literally said in my first post: " but £20-25mil is the minimum reasonable fee which we'll be likely to receive and consider" - notice that "£20-25mil" includes £20mil in its range, numbnuts. I never "turned round". The fact that similar or even less proven players went for more is evidence to justify my original statement. Plus, even the lowest band of the range I originally posted - £20mil - is still "closer to £30mil than £3/4mil". I have been 100% consistent throughout while your original claim remains absurd. If you're going to continue lying about what I posted in your continued desperation to hide from what you yourself posted, then just save yourself the bother of typing any more.
And sides are now much more aware of his threat than earlier in the season so they devised more robust plans to counter him. It's noticeable he's closed down much more quickly now as sides have sussed he often needs an extra touch before shooting & that he's always more likely to shoot than put the ball across the box. Before they tended to lay off him a bit more to hedge their bets between a direct shot and pass. His awful pass to ?JP? when we were 2-on-1 in the second half was an indication he's lost a bit of confidence also.
I could say exactly the same thing about your interpretation of the stats. It is only your opinion that he was the best player at Villa and West Ham and if he got into such great positions to score goals why in your learned opinion has he only scored one goal and no assists in 2022. Do you know anything about football or do you only formulate your knowledge about the game using charts and graphs
Dennis won’t play well every game of course . He had a poor one yesterday but in other recent games has he been a bit isolated in attack as we concentrate on defending ?
Assists isn’t a good metric to base any opinion off, because it’s finish dependant on another player. Secondly, he’s getting into good positions to score in a really bad team, which means if he keeps doing it, he’ll eventually start scoring again. But because we’re managed by a complete dinosaur, Dennis will get much fewer chances to score, because the style of play relies on strikers to be clinical, something which they aren’t. And it’s up to you whether I know football or not, I personally do not care for your opinion on that matter
Apart from when he doesn't and passes excellently in the build-up to our equaliser yesterday you mean?
They don't always show it. The commentator even said the check was complete - so it was close enough to be checked.
Need to tie him down to a new long term contract, and quickly, or he will be off with Sarr in the summer.
Have any of you ever had a beloved old pet dog that still makes an effort to chase his ball around but cant do it as well as he used to?
He will easily score 20 goals in a better team. Don't worry, we will reopen this next season when he signs for a better team. Sent from my TECNO P701 using Tapatalk
If Dennis is worth 3m, we should be very happy if we any team can pay 1m for Sarr. Sent from my TECNO P701 using Tapatalk
He was linked with top teams in the EPL while playing for Club Brugge for a reason! Now you think those teams will be underwhelmed to find out he scored just 9 (NO PENALTIES) goals in his first season in the EPL while playing for one of the worst team in the league? Get real! This is just an utterly meaningless statement considering he signed for Watford for about £3m. There have been plenty of flash in the pan players in the Premier League, our very own Igahlo, Papise Cisse, etc. That is why I said “it depends what he does for the rest of the season” PL clubs aren’t going to splash out £30m for a player who had half a good season.
