This lad is not 19 until November, but he is already on our books he is 6'3" strong and scores goals, and has often trained with 1st team already. I wonder if he might get a look in with 1st team this season as he apparently has got great potential, after all Pedro was very much involved with the 1st team last season and he was only 18 at the start of the season.
When will he be sold? Our record with these sorts of prospect and them playing first team football isn't great.
Well we do want to improve our striker options so maybe on this occasion we might try to bring a promising youngster through rather than spend money we haven't got to bring someone in?
I've got more chance of playing for the first team than the lads in the U23s. Get them all out on loan so their careers aren't completely ruined by the club.
I think we should look at giving him 20 minutes at the end of games as a bit of a 'super-sub', but be wary of overusing him. But definitely got enough talent to play in the first team by the end of this season.
Thats a really good question. To me it seems the the majority of our youngsters are not at the level they would need to be to play for us.
...and if we do find any that could go on to be, the bigger clubs just swoop and pick them up for peanuts.
There's more to it than just age - Joao Pedro was scoring goals and generally playing well in the top division in Brazil when he joined us. Whilst I like what I've seen of Cuker so far, the difference between U23s football and playing in the PL for the first time is absolutely huge - could Cukur be ready for the PL? Who knows without playing him, however it's much less of a risk to give him a loan and see how he plays and adapts to the senior game before chucking him into the deep end.
Or we could try him early season in the 1st team squad and if he does not look up to it, then loan him out before the window closes.
He certainly has potential from the limited amount I've seen of him, but is still a fair way from being good enough for us. Lo-Everton seemed to have a bit more polish already and even then I thought he's currently League One at most. I reckon Cukur should be loaned out either to a National League club like Wealdstone, or at a stretch maybe someone in League Two like Stevenage.
Sorry I meant we have all these potentially good young players who either just leave or turn out to not be what the club expect. Not that we have let any go without giving them a go particularly.
Gone to Doncaster season long loan 16:25 DONNY SIGN CUKUR Doncaster have signed Tiago Cukur on a season-long loan deal from Watford. The 18-year-old Turkish forward arrives from Vicarage Road after some impressive performances for the Hornets’ Under-23 side.
If he has a good season he's in danger of being in our 2022/23 Championship squad. The Johnson/Gilligan effect.
It sounds like he had plenty of other offers but Donny were the ones to make the big effort to sign him. Wellens himself came down and spoke to him. Hopefully he gets plenty of opportunities.
This lad is a striker and is apparently 6' 3" as well as being built like a brick **** house, I think we could be on to a winner with this one and hopefully he will become involved with the first team sooner rather than later, and not sold on without ever playing for the first team.
How long is his contract ? If it's 12 months, he will turn out to be excellent, and be off. If it's 5 years, he will turn out to be **** and will never be off.
He’s got 1 year but I think the club have an option to extend it by another year. So if he’s good he’ll be off for a minimal amount because he’ll be in his last year.
Doncaster Rovers cancel loan deal of Watford's Tiago Cukur | Doncaster Free Press It states that a decision will be made on Dahlberg this week as well. Maybe we intend to recall him.
We should release him. We only have two categories of youth player. Not good enough or poached by the big boys. There’s no in between. Not his fault but bye.
Played 26 times apparently but only one goal. Can’t say I have watched any Doncaster games to know how he played but must have done something right to appear in 26 games. Maybe needs more time to develop.
Looks like his first crack at senior football was a bit of a nightmare. Hopefully he's learnt a lot from it and his next loan will be more successful. It certainly doesn't look like he's anywhere close to being considered for the first team and probably never will be.
