The New Style: 23rd April 2010

Well colour blind at least, the forum colour just changed in front of my eyes :biggrin:

I thought I had better explain as Admin has merged my thread with this one, making my words even more nonsensical than usual

 

Thanks to Hornmeister and Nak for working on the header design.

This is it. The yellow has gone for good.

The "red" bar along the top of each box/post needs to go to make it a complete fresh look.

 

I'm assuming this is just an interim theme?

 

Apart from the St. Georges bit this is it.

 

I was thinking that I was not keen on the new "Logo" and wondering what the plum in the logo was all about, but I have just realised that the logo is supposed to be a HORNET :forehead:

Ok, obviously being a mod before I understand the limitations of the forum software a little so although I agree with Desmond about the red bars I know there's little you can do about those without spending dosh a pointless full redesign.

I just don't see what white has to do with Watford? It's a bit bland...I much preferred the theme a couple of years ago around FA Cup Semi Final time which was all black and yellow.

I like the WFC logo. Very clever. Could even become the forum's logo. Not sure though why the font for the word 'Forums' is then totally different and oddly spaced out? Looks a little odd IMHO as if added in 10 seconds flat as an afterthought.

And I'm sure you know my next request - can we have the old style back as an option to choose from at the bottom please?

 

We've been using the white background for a bit now and TBH it's much better than the black, easier and clearer. It will grow on you.

That's fair enough but white has nothing to do with Watford FC? I know the colours Watford play in limit you a bit as they're at the more whacky end of the rainbow but most football club internet forums match their team colours and this doesn't really anymore. Only a small point though and hardly going to make anyone not post because of it.

 

It's a fair point though. TBH the original Yellow and Red (still here) are not really WFC colours anyway, we tried that once and it gave me a migraine.:dismay:

 

Just to add to what Hornmeister said.

We tried and tried with the black but it just wasn't working. It can be used for Halloween and other special occasions, but much as we wanted it to work it didn't feel right either.

I agree with you about the white not being associated with Watford, and if we played in blue and white this place would look a lot better! The white gives it a clean look, and as Meister said above, it really grows on you quickly. I've been switching my own settings between this one and the old yellow one, and I really detested the older one once I grew used to this one. What I'd like to try is to have the red bars a very light shade of yellow as we tried last year. Work in progress.

Funny you say that about the Forums font bit. None of us have agreed that it looks good, we all know it needs to be better but we wanted the new theme out today. My fault for pushing the font bit. It will change. Ideas welcomed from the graphical experts.

I will gladly put the old style back as selectable, but only after next Sunday's match when the season has finished. This way you are forced to at least give the new style a chance. We've left the default VB style selectable.

The comments are appreciated, I think in a couple of weeks things will have evolved somewhat.

 

Background is good lads, much better on the eyes but have to agree on the red bars being totally in need of changing as well, and of courser the 'forums' font is a must to change.

 

I never got to see the black, what was wrong with it?

I like it, but not very watfordy (it's a new adjective)

 

How about changing the yellow text to another colour- is that possible. It is just that combination of dark red and yellow which looks very out of place with no other yellow present.

 

We've got to have some yellow though

im definitly a fan the site just looks a lot cleaner as a whole without the yellow haha

love the new logo very cool but agree the forums part of the header needs fixing

 

The header looks abit amateur compared to the rest, ballooned style graphics don't really go too well either.

 

We are having a discussion about the header in the mods area, the thread is currently up to 80 posts!

i like the new style - though i do wonder why the bits on the left hand side are in pink?

 

It looks like you have just changed it for the sake of changing things, instead of having came up with something better. The colour is bland and the header is lame. Before you knew you were on a Watford forum now it feels like i could be on any forum.I'm going to join UEA and ask if can we have the old style back as an option to choose from at the bottom.

Why does the quick reply box have a grey surround? Yellow would be more in keeping. I think it's getting better. The header still needs serious work.
