we need to keep young at least until the end of this season. if watford want to accept a deal now but arrange for the transfer to go through at the end of this season i'd take that:)

    £7,000,000?

Bye Ash...cheers for everything you've done! I'll come and pack your bags fella and drive you out of Vicarage Road myself!

    Collins John £3,250,000? No thanks....greedy **** anyway!

The tide is against us now. Ash is going.

Surely Spurs can recall Routledge any time they want can't they?

Since Aidy was supposed to have a mini kind of warchest already, the extra 7 mill would give him a decent amount to spend now. Arent the Rotherham two around a mill and a half? Leaves enough for some premiership quality doesn't it?

Depends, if it is a season long loan, i'm sure Fulham would have made sure that the recall clause wasn't in...especially if it meant Routledge going to another Premiership side.

Maybe the deal is set to go through at the end of the season though. If so i'd put any cash we got with the deal towards improving the ground/academy (rather than more players)

That's not the problem Berko - the problem is that anyone who'd require cash from an Ash sale to finance - would not come to us nomatter what. Take CJ - who we could afford as things are - even he wouldn't sign. Why would someone even more highly rate then be inclined to do so?

take your point but this is still extra money so perhaps we will see a bigger squad.

i now read that aidy is still hopeful of signing him and may even raise the salary cap.

I'd still be inclined to use the money from Ash's sale to safe guard the clubs future and infrastructure etc like we did with the sale of Furlong and Dyer. I know Premiership survival would do that, but we don't want to blow more than £7 mil, probably a figure nearer £10 mil only to be forced to sell them all on the cheap sometime in the future (if we dont stay up).

As for CJ, do we want to blow the salary cap to get him? Part of me thinks yes because he is a quality forward, but there are clear risks. I'd also assume we'd be forced to sell him if we went down (unless he took a pay cut).

    Where do you see that?

Regarding a bigger squad - sure we could probalby get 3 to 5 players who are marginally better than what we have already. But I don't see that as a means to staying up and certainly not something that can make up for the loss of Ash - IMHO.

Maybe our salary ceiling is just too low anyway and should be reviewed if really want to survive in the premiership.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting. Are you saying just keep the money and plan for next season in the championship? I understand that breaking the salary cap is a risk and will have ramifications with the current squad but if we miss out on the premiership next season the gap will be at least twice as big. Ash's current form won't keep us up so if the bidding is really up to 8 mill we should take it before we wake up.

I'll continue being optimistic about our survival chances until the end, but i think that an increase in the wage cap now, is too late and should have been done back in june/july/august. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? :(

The club have a wages policy.

In that policy two players Mahon and King have clauses.

CJ's reported demands would affect others pay, hence no deal noel, unless he changes his demands.

But this could be fixed with a sign on fee and reduced wage correct? I mean surely that's an option?

    You'd think so.

Is he really only 21? I read that somewhere. he seems to have been around for years.

or am i thinking of john collins?

I presume if the 2 Spurs lad refused to join us the deal would be off?

    Keep young.

If we wanted Davenport we could just sign him for £2M Ish

The board need to decide how much they really want to stay in the top flight. If we could, we should keep Ash, increase the wage bill (regardless) and approach realistic targets that can keep us up. This should have already been done. This can only tell us that the board have decided, hence we are struggling. The Prem is big money, we know that, how much do they want to stay.

Easy to type I know, but that's the way it is, unless your a Wigan or Reading that honestly believed they could go up and stay up, hence they started spending whilst still in the Championship. I love the Horns and want to stay up, but unless they break the current set of parameters, we'll be down in weeks

    Sorry but honest
