Think it could have been very different if the penalty which hit lambert's arm according to jon marks hadn't been given. Still not a good result, but i hate the moaners who'll moan at any excuse.

Yes let's just accept a 4-0 defeat with good grace...idiot.

He probably meant fans like him won't be jumping off the nearest bridge (they know its not worth going OTT with one defeat as it isn't right to mad over a win which some do)

    ;)

    Or not surprised we lost.

exactly, the ones who say dyche out, and accuse the whole team of being sh*te. I expected a loss, not a 4 goal loss but playing the top team who have something like 16 matches unbeaten at home its hardly a shock.

You be happy with a 4-0 defeat, that's what losers always do.

No *******s, we didn't just lose, we sunk without a trace, were completely devoid of any tactical house, ideas, urgency or attacking threat, just like we have been all season, let's be honest, nearly all the goals we've scored this season have been freak occurrences or defensive **** ups rather than merit of our own build up play.

Dyche hasn't a clue, he doesn't know what he's doing and how long do we have to suffer and free fall towards League One before something is done about it.

We were absolutely ****ing awful today, not one positive to come out with, Gilmartin is absolute toilet and nearly gifted them another three/four goals, the defence was awful, midfield was anonymous, wingers may as well stay at home and nothing upfront.

It should have been a cricket score today, and we never really looked like scoring.

Personally not happy with a 4-0 loss, but I wasn't expecting us to bring anything back to Hertfordshire with us anyway. So it makes no odds to me whether we lost 1-0 or 4-0 - obviously i'd rather not the latter (Unless goal-difference at the end of the season is important! :) )

I never normally am, but then every other time we've gone on a slide I could see a way out, or some alternative to pick us up, this time I can't.

We lost to top of the league, and up until the first penalty, from what I gathered, we weren't doing badly. 2 penalties, a deflection and whatever the fourth was I don't know. You don't get that kind of luck every game - we'll be alright. Maybe one day we might get 2 penalties in a match!

They weren't lucky, they were better than us and we were absolutely useless.

First was a penalty, second was definitely a penalty, third I don't think was deflected at all, but the marker just stood and watched him and the fourth was just a good goal, but should have been closed down.

We were absolutely awful, and we didn't look like scoring up until the first goal, we weren't better than them, we just sort of contained them a bit.
They honestly should have hit double figures, few sitters, Lallana hit the bar, Lambert the post, Gilmartin fumbled three balls at their feet and de Prado was one on one within about 10 minutes.

Very fustrating day today. Credit to Southampton who were quality and have a very good setup down there. Adkins has done very well. Few points killed game for me.

    1) The Ref. Absolutely shocking. No-one thought the first pen was a pen, no one appealed, lino didn't give it and he took 5 seconds after the ball was back in play to give it! Was not consistent throughout and blew at the wrong time and gave some very strange decisions.

    2) Hogg. Thought he was our best player (wasn't hard to be). Gave his all, worked hard, got into the positions and if he had of taken a touch for his chance, he'd have scored. Losing him at half-time was a big blow. Jenkins was incompetent in midfield, got bullied and didn't get a tackle in until the last minute when he made 3/4 in a row which credit to him, was good.

    3) Sordell. What has happened?! Magic Marv has lost his form badly. Did not look interested and gave up on through balls. No commitment today and it would appear his head has been turned. Needs a rest or needs to be dropped. Unfortunately, Emu/Deeney aren't better than him so no natural replacement.

    4) Gilmartin. Hot and cold performance. Couldn't catch for toffee but made 3/4 really really good saves. Very unlucky with the fourth but was poor overall. Why Loach was dropped at this point in the season when he hasn't done much wrong, i'll never now.

    5) Defence was shaky. Had been reshuffled, Tiny was all over the place, Doyley was errr his usual clumsy self and Mapps had a poor game, losing out to the number 10 constantly and gave away a clear pen. Mirfin played well however, a real rock and deserves some credit.

So overall, really disappointing. But a couple of mentions to the good of the day. The coaching staff, even at 4-0 down were constantly trying to support the side and get them back into it. Don't think Dyche sat down all game. Hogg and Mirfin were as solid as can be while Garner promised much but delivered little. But easily, the best part of the day were the fans. Absolutely fantastic noise. Didn't stop until we went 4-0 down and were very loud. Fair play to all those 'orns who made the trip. Need this week break, get reorganised and get some points on the board.

    Keep the faith.

First was not a penalty and Dyche has had the benefit of several replays.

Second was a clear pen, 3rd a well placed shot but NO ONE closed him down. 4th got a deflection that took it past Gilmartin.

Had that 1st pen not been given, who knows how the game would have finished. The garner miss changed the game as they realised they needed to buck their ideas up!

That's one of the most worrying things, I have to agree with you there Prentice.

People say "we were doing quite well up until the first goal" but then ignore the fact that after the first goal we conceded 3 more!

    That's never good.

The radio weren't anywhere near as critical as you, but then again one of the commentators was McGinn. Have to bow to those who saw the game with their own eyes - though usually those that go come back more positive!

Southampton are a much, much better team than us, I think it probably makes it far worse to expend the money and effort to watch us get hammered. I wouldn't have expected us to pick anything at all up there - especially considering we are struggling to beat the sh itter teams in the division.

That's because he is spot on. Our recent managers (Boothroyd, Rodgers, Malky) have had our players playing with confidence. This team look as though they turn up to collect their next pay packet and **** off home again. These performances I have seen so far have been so heartless. There is such little effort or passion in our game at the moment.

Dyche needs be able to man manage these guys and knock some sense/discipline/motivation into them. Either that or bring in a sport psychologist to do it for him. If not, we will continue to fall under his 'guidance' and disappear into league one. The other option is recalling the likes of Matty Wichelow and sticking them in the team. They play with the club at heart. I say give some of the academy players a go. I'd rather lose 5 or 6 nil with a group of players who put their all into it and come off the pitch absolutely farked at the end where they have run their *******s off, than lose 4-0 with a performance where we should no fight whatsoever like today.

Fair play. I'm just going on what I had read. I was outside all afternoon totally oblivious to what was going on in the game. Sounds like I should be thankful!

I stick by what I said though, I didn't expect us to take anything from this one, so i'm not exactly devastated by the result. We'll learn from it.

But Prentice, we're supposed to be happy and find the positives in the fact that we conceded 4 without reply and played utterly useless and cluelessly once again, otherwise we're just moaners?

I said before the season started Dyche was an awful, underwhelming choice for manager and it's being proven. We didn't need "continuity", we needed a bit of experience and presence.

Prentice isn't one of the normal doom and gloom merchants but if anything he has been too kind. I have only ever left one game early but today I was just about ready. That is as bad a display I can remember under any WFC team. Losing/playing ***** doesn't bother me as that is part of being a Watford fan but I can never remember watching a team that gave as little effort as today. Farking disgraceful. If the club has any respect for it's fans they will refund the tickets. £29 and five hours in the car to watch that shower was about £129 and five hours too much.

When Dyche was appointed I was all for giving him a crack but today he got it wrong. ****o was ill so replace him. But why take two other players out of position to compound the problem?! We finally get a win on Tuesday and so by the next game only one man out of the back four is still playing in the same position? That is just ****ing negligent.

Every goal kick was lumped towards Forsyth and it just wasn't working - yet the only tactical knowledge that was shown was to switch Forsyth to the other side but continue doing the same thing. The end result was exactly the same - shock, horror!!

Sordell is a ****, end of. If he can't be bothered to play for us then he should just **** off.

The final insult was the final whistle when Doyley was the only one to make any effort to applaud the away fans.

Believe it or not I am quite calm now, if I had typed my post straight after the game it would have been an angry one.

I have a cup game for my Sunday league team tomorrow. We are crap and full of all sorts. Two fellas turn up smoking a joint as their pre match prep every week without fail, however every single team mate of mine has more passion in their little toe than those ******* that wore the yellow shirt today.

Can't be bothered for one of my longer reports, but echo most of what Wfcthroughandthrough has said. But to be quite honest, this team is mostly made up of *****, Dyche had money to spend, and instead of buying lower league hot shots, younger players with raw talent, we bought crap journeymen. We just have so many **** poor players now, and that's Dyche's fault no one else. I disagree massively with his football ethos, and after seeing some of the players he passed up on, due to them not fitting his "mould", it's no surprise we're now a crap one dimensional side. As for Marv currently, no effort, no ability and no brain. Makes me laugh that we rejected a package worth £5 million for him not too long ago.

Dyche out, The man is clueless. the last half of the last season was shambolic cause doyley was at left back, some games marriappa had to play right back, this has never ever worked so why do it against a team who are full of confidence. So many times marriappa drifted into centre back position and left the wingers to play the ball nicely around that area. Forsyth is just absolutly *****. How can he be classed as a winger, He has no pace, Cant cross a ball and cant shoot, Stick the lad at left back or centre back where he actually belongs!!! Also if he used to be a left back why the **** did he not play there today and keep everyone in there true positions!!!. In the second half we had deeney playing left wing, doyley at left back and marriappa at right as well as forsyth at right mid (wtf!?!?!?)

Absolutly dismal performance and its gonna go down hill.

    Rant ****ing over!!

Agree with most of that but the last bit. Marv clearly has heaps of talent. I really don't think it is anything about a lack of effort. This players tat have been brought into the club have been there and done that and it looks as though they are simply here to pick up their wages. Most people come to Watford to prove something and have a great work rate. I think the attitude of these players is wearing off on the younger lads. Marv today tried to cut inside on his left foot a few times like he did last season but got tackled because he was already that extra yard ahead of them. Had he not been so quick he would have turned them and got a shot off. He got a bit of stick for it which I thought was unfair as it's one of his preferred moves and has worked time and again for him. I really think there is something seriously wrong with our current coaching staff. That's where we need to look at.

Thank you. I actually blame Forsyth for the second goal/pen. Doyley was left stranded in that corner trying to mark two men while Forsyth just ambled back in no rush at all to mark his man. In the end, the guy Forsyth should have been marking was the one that got the cross in that lead to the foul. Had he actually bothered to get back and put a little pressure on them, that ball may never have come in. As it was the guy had a ridiculous amount of time to put it in. He is extremely lazy and doesn't offer our defence any cover.

  31. YellowKicks

Trust me, i'm not one of these people who claim Marv doesn't normally put effort it, and normally i'm his biggest fan, today he didn't give a ****. There was one point in the game where the ball was coming towards him whilst he had a man on, which he knew, and instead of sprinting to collect the ball, he walked whilst looking off into the stands, and obviously the Southampton man beat the ball. I don't think I saw him attempt to close down once today. Agree massively that there is an issue on the coaching side, won't be fixed till Dyche goes, which he won't.

    Second defeat in eight games.

Some people really need to look at our team and the size of our club in relation to Southampton and most other teams in this division. Luckily I was never under any illusions and knew that this season would be ugly and fully expected us to lose some games away against the top teams in the division by this sort of margin. I respect people's opinions and can see where they are coming from and of course some of our performances this season have been atrocious but the team and manager need more time to gel before they can be properly judged.

Saying 'Dyche out' after ten league games and a heavy loss to a team that are top of the table is quite frankly laughable, especially when it comes from a poster who I know to be an Arsenal fan.

Didnt go to today but listened on 3CR. Obviously there are some unhappy people on here. However, if established posters like Prentice, NathWFC, and Leighton Buzzard Horn say Watford were shocking and Dyche is a tactical moron, then people should take notice. I sent a text in to 3CR on Tuesday saying that all that win (against a massively poor Millwall side) on Tuesday did was paper over the cracks. I did not expect 3 points today, I hoped for a draw, but expected a loss. What was evident though was that after the 1st goal went in, we just didnt seem to have any chances.

Someone asked who do we get in - Graham Westley from Stevenage would be my choice. Dyche has brought in a good number of players and only Hogg and sometimes Yeates look half decent. Dyche was a **** journeyman player, he has bought **** journeyman players predominantly, and he is a **** clueless manager who's tactics reflect the way he played football. He will take us down.

Size of club or budget, number of new signings and how long they have had to gel etc. has **** all to do with a lack of effort and giving up the ghost.

  35. frontrowrook

It's nothing to do with 'needing to gel' any more. I said from the very beginning we will struggle intially with all these new signings, but once they gel they will come good. There is just no passion at all right now. You can see by the way we are playing the players have no confidence in themselves. They recieve the ball and panic then just pass it straight back to the opposition. There were only a couple of people today who when they recieved the ball, actually looked up and tried to make a decent pass/run. Other than that, as soon as it was recieved, they couldn't wait to get rid of it. They just didn't want to be there.
