I have just read a comment on WD Sports 24/7 News which is attributed to gossip in italy. It says that WFC have been looking at fringe players in Sieri A teams, and wonders why we are not aiming for better established players instead, like most other English PL teams are? I think it is ok if we are talking about youngsters with potential, but not when we are signing players that have not been good enough to make the starting 11 at their existing clubs. Apart from our apparent offer for the WBA lad Beherino (spelling?) we do seem to target mainly players who have not been good enough to play in the 1st 11 of their existing teams.
Talented young(ish) players like Pereyra seem like good options, but not old, past it players like Maggio or just average players like Zuniga.
One season in the premier league ... why aren't we signing Juve's star players? I mean my GOD. That lad Beherino though ...
Takes time, you've got to prove your a sustainable team before the bigger names start coming. Pereyra isn't too shabby though...
He may have had a good career, but at the moment he's just a 30 year old who can barely get a game for Napoli. Not what we should be looking at imo
I was thinking most of the rumours up to Pereyra were a little underwhelming, and frankly not much of an upgrade, in fact not even that, on what we have been signing over the last year (which I make no complaint about in terms of quality). This may be over-expectation on my part, but I was expecting a step up, which Pereyra and Berahino would appear to be, so perhaps there is more going on than we are party to. Scrub that, we know there is more going on than we are party to. I think there is an awful lot of com chatter out there seeking our clicks. I guess that most of the press have no idea who Gino is after, and any report that says Mazzarri is after a player is likely to be complete dog poop. So, yep, I was thinking pretty much exactly the same as the OP up until a few days ago. But I am pretty confident we will be aiming higher than most of the names mentioned so far, and, sticking my neck out, am confident we will not be signing any over thirties this window unless they are exceptional.
I guess the question here is who would you target VoR? The Pozzo's will tend to look for value for money. If the likes of Zuniga can do a job for 2 seasons, and is cheap, then it'll be classed as a good deal (Think along the lines of Cassetti).
The Pozzo model is to buy cheap and sellon for a proffit, whilst maintaining league stability. We won't be bidding for Pogba any time soon.
The opening post is more worthwhile than constantly claiming things are going to happen that never materialise like you do.
That Madrid lad Bale has scored again today and we haven't even tested the water with a bid. Disgusting lack of ambition.
Five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three Football League Cups, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and 110 international appearances!
It depends on your objective. If your objective (as a club with a small stadium and currently a small fan base) is sustained improvement, growth in the fan base, sustained financial viability in the BPL, with an eye on European football, you go one route. If your objective is to win the bragging contest down at the pub, you go another.
I'm not saying that we are not working on it behind the scenes, but the players we are getting linked with in the press are largely underwhelming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The way Pozzos do business I.e. backing out of competing for really good players against other teams bids I can see Watford being a bottom half team for a while. until we go down.
Should we be aiming higher than a 18 million Euro attacking midfielder from Juventus? Who, exactly, do we think we should be going after?
We already have a very good squad, that would have finished top 10 in the premiership if things hadn't gone a little wobbly in the last few months. Realistically we are looking to replace 5 maybe 6 of the 25 declared squad players. We already have 3 or 4 coming in, ok 1 or 2 being U21 and look very close to getting Pereyra. Our squad, bar a right and left back, is already stronger than last year, so we can be as selective as we want with getting the right players in. I'm sure that these will be a mix between those with some experience and players to develop. It's early days yet, mid June, we have another 10 or 11 weeks to go yet
So you don't know when then : Whether you are right or wrong, I certainly new nothing about him or how good he was when I started this thread, and quite frankly I doubt you did either! However, the question I am asking is whether or not we are aiming to sign more high profile players, and hopefully now we are beginning to do so?
This is the first time I have seen people trying to win an argument by trying to prove they know less than the other person. That being said I think it's moving way off topic. I feel an imminent closure.
