I dont know if it has formally been confirmed, if it has then I apologise, or if it has been stated on here, but got informed by a very very relaible source that Sarries are at the Vic for the whole season. Worth a few pound but they are still going to Barnet in the long term
Them leaving mid season was always going to be optimistic. I predict another season of the eggchasers at the vic and another season before the pitch is redone, at least.
No surprise I also DONT expect them to be at Copthall by start of next season either, but feel they'll choose somewhere thats not The Vic for short term
We've already started playing hoofball with the pitch at its best so it won't really matter if it gets worse. In fact it'd be good if it does get worse because then other teams won't be able to play passing football!
I think their only option will be to end up working with Barnet and ground sharing at a new stadium with them. Barnet will fight to stop Copthall for all they are worth.
Sarries have had to work bloody hard to stop the nimby's round by saying they'll only play a maximum of 16 (i think) games there a season-they'll lose those peoples.... acquiescence if they get Barnet involved. Which is a shame, because it appears as though the FC are getting more than a little shafted here.
I don't have a problem with Saracens staying for the entire season. It will bring in over £1 million and is probably the reason Bassini released some more money for players last week. This year is all about stability and sorting the books, so as long as we stay up this season, then whatever it takes, short term, for a better tomorrow is okay with me.
If you look at it this way - The money incoming from the Sarries staying at The Vic for the whole season, it brings in just under £1million for the club. We spent probably just a little over £1million on our 9 permanent signings this summer. When you then take into consideration, we sold £4.5millions worth of player, and presumably got some money for MM leaving - then I'd say we've done very well over the summer, particularly in bringing in 10 players giving the squad a lot more depth, when only 3 (2 if you don't class Buckley as a starting XI player) of our starting XI went out the door. The money for the Saracens, and MM's compensation will probably have funded the incoming player transfers, and at the same time, the club has been able to bank ca. £4.5m, with some of that being re-invested in the ground. That's the way we need to be working, so i'd say it's probably a good thing they're staying this season, especially as the new pitch isn't happening until next summer.
