It raises two possibilities: 1. for some reason, GP has lost whatever 'football acumen' he once possessed....or 2. his motives have always been almost totally geared to money-spinning player-trading and the changes in the football environment over the last 4 seasons mean his unsuccessful punts become ever-more obviously ludicrous whilst the successful ones become ever fewer and less lucrative. £30m for JP in today's market is mediocre at best, whilst in the past it may have been good business. That £30m will not deliver adequate replacements AND the cash injection GP's 'project' requires. I think we can guess where the funds will end up.
But we had no asset after Richarlison or Docoure, or Pedro, or Sarr, or Dennis, or Deoulofeu, or Ighalo, or Cucho. Who’s to say that Matheus from Brazil won’t be an asset? Asprilla might go on to be worth something. They haven’t recruited well over the last 2 seasons that’s for damn sure and Mogi’s involvement is certainly worrying. I just don’t think this Kalu thing is THAT much of a concern, you disagree, that’s fine!
No it's not fine! It's a disgrace, an embarrassment, and you should feel deep deep shame at the entire affair.
Eh? Richarlison was sold in the summer of 17 and we had Docoure and Delefelou in the squad for the following season.
No, you tell me. I also want to hear the full theory about where he was stored until ready to make his debut as an alleged 18 year old six years ago.
I asked you how old he is. You are swerving all over the road. I’m not pushing an age theory, you are.
I think he looks a bit older than 24 in some pictures. But if you think he looks 35 do you believe he actually is 35? In this one, taken four years ago, how old does he look to you, 31?
Ok, you think he looks 31 fine. So taking all the evidence into account, what is the absolute youngest you believe he can be?
I’ve told you, I think he looks older than 24, but could be 24. There is a cultural perception to age. This is Nairo Quintana winning the Giro D’Italia at 24. He looks older to me, but I’m certain he was 24.
That's last seasons squad in the London Colney cafeteria. Woy and Ray are having pureed meals in their room.
This age issue is also commented on by numerous Nigeria posters on forums. Many claim to have played with him in youth teams etc making him in his 30s somewhere. Some stories of potential falsified documents for him to play for Nigeria under 21s etc
It can’t have been the greatest start to life at the Vic, to be humiliated by your own fans and essentially accused of being a fraudster. But who knows? The consensus appears to be he deserves it.
The bloke could be 21 or 31 or even 101 but whatever his age the facts remain that he was an unnecessary signing at a time when we maybe still have a slim chance of survival. He was immediately recognised as such and hardly played. His move was brokered by an agent nearly all of us regard as flawed at both, dodgy at worst. Now we are to take a hit on this player. A shameful episode. And who takes the hit? You can bet it won’t be the agent who brought him here. He takes the profit, our club takes the loss. In any other business, the agent might be asked to partly refund us. But not in football. There’s a human being involved here as well as a balance sheet and a matter of ethics. I feel sorry for Kalu that his career has been hijacked by an agent whose decisions haven’t been in his best interest, and that’s he’s wasted a few months of his career here at Watford. A shameful episode from start to the likely-to-come-soon finish.
