Would say the same for the two current centre backs! Hoedt is slower than Sierralta and Porteous is forever charging out of position leaving a hole. In terms of being a pure defender, Sierralta is the best option we have I think. Guess we might find out soon if Porteous is suspended midweek (which I think I saw).
In terms of defending: Sierralta > Hoedt > Porteous In ability on the ball: Hoedt > Sierralta = Porteous
Defending should be above all else for a defender. Every week I'm seeing dumbass goals because the least technical players on the pitch (GK and CBs) are the "creative outlet". If in doubt, get it out. You're not Man City.
Hoedt is one of the better passers in the whole squad and much better than Sierralta and Porteous. He was pretty terrible on Saturday but his crossfield passing has been superb this season.
Agree there . Does some good ones but trouble is no one can control them or got the pace to reach it except Asprilla.
In fairness, he hardly got a chance either to prove or refute this - I'm not sure we can really make a claim either way based on the scant evidence available to us!
Wasn't the worst offender among 11, and rarely lets us down at Championship level. The games have come thick and fast of late, hope Sierralta returns to first choice soon
He doesn't seem to be favoured by successive coaches. Certainly seems to have to play twice as well to get half as many matches.
Just to make sure, you know this comment back in October was talking about Sierralta not Porteous, right? Given he was part of the Championship's joint best ever defence and then barely used again, having not played that many senior games (relatively-speaking), I'm not sure it is that safe after all.
No, Porteous thread so I'd wrongly assumed it related to Porteous, .....despite the comments about few chances at prem level !
And Porteous is terrible in almost every game he plays. Sierralta, when he has played this season, has been shunted into midfield and not been able to settle in or find any form at centre back where he belongs, but he is a fundamentally better centre back than Porteous.
The bloke is just complete and utter crap. Should be fourth choice, which is hilarious considering Pollock is one of the other options.
Unfortunately another horrendous performance from braveheart, glad he is missing the next game haven't got to watch his rash decision making
Reminds me a bit of William Troost-Ekong with added anger management issues Poor tackling, below average passing, positionally suspect and a quite impressive ability to mis-use his strength in one-on-one tussles On the plus side his comical 'passion' and constant mouthing off is like watching a drunk picking a fight with his own reflection I fully expect him to lead Scotland to an African Nations cup final where he'll score from his own half by just shouting at the ball, take out several ballboys, cameramen and sound effect mic's with a sliding tackle lasting a good 20 yards before we subsequently flog him to Arbroath for one of their promising 35 year old midfielders
I said it during the Leicester game that they would chat at half time about Porteous, pull him infield and then expose us behind. What he did for that goal was poetry. Total lack of discipline.
Looked pretty assured tonight, did end up with a booking of course, but that was more of a 'taking one for the team' booking rather than a rush of blood that we are accustomed to seeing from him
True, though he should have also probably taken one from the team not too long before that with the run Placheta ended up almost scoring from (but instead just flashing the ball wide). For some reason he decided to jump out the tackle even though it was outside the box.
Seen he's now up to 14 bookings for the season (and lucky that yesterday was just that, as being outpaced by Tufat should be a red card offense!), now that we are mathematically safe, should we shelve him so as not to risk starting next season banned?
