And the DoF saying we have an "excellent squad" - to compete at the top I presume?

I like these comments from Rob in the article:

"“I’ve been lucky enough to be promoted from the Championship twice as a player and on both occasions we had an unbelievable spirit in the group. We had a winning environment where everyone pushed each other but they also backed each other. So firstly I think spirit is really important.

“Then I’d say you need to be able to select your best players as often as possible. Sounds obvious, but you need fit, strong, robust players that you can keep putting out on the pitch. You need a lot of players who can handle 40-plus games. That enables you to be consistent in your work.""

    ---

As has been suggested though by some on here it seems he'll have his work cut out getting a "winning environment" and "unbelievable spirit" back in to that dressing room.

The second paragraph also hopefully means he doesn't plan on relying on players like Cleverley and Cathcart (though it'd also be a concern with the more needed and skillful Kiko).

As per my earlier post he seems to have the right outlook, but it's now a question of if he's actually going to manage to get what he's looking for out of the players and the Pozzos.

Going by quotes last week he sees Cleverley as an important player - now that might just be as an experienced player in the dressing rather than a regular starter.

I should qualify,by elite I mean youngsters in squads as opposed to top 100 regulars!

We need 2x ST and 1x Dynamic CM at minimum. Maybe a RWB too.

Can only go off what Edwards stated and he clearly said that he, Gino, Giaretta and Scott all sat down around the round table and talked.

“We have a plan in place. I sat round the table yesterday with Cristiano, Gino and Scott, and it was a good meeting. We’re all on the same page, and we were able to chat about players and where I see them fitting in.”

The problem is we have a very tough run of games in the first few weeks of the season.

Therefore we really need to have whatever players we are after in sooner rather than later to give them a chance to bed in for what will be a tough first few games otherwise we will find ourselves playing catch up from the off.

If we are nowhere near promotion places at Christmas, he will be sacked. He's probably trying to take pressure off the players.

    That long!

Presume if he gets off to a Munoz from last season type start the pressure will be on straight away .

Let’s hope we don’t have to find out but I fear a sense of complacency and arrogance Vialli style .

Couldn’t have a more difficult start. Could well be zero points after 3 games. Will really test the new “long term view” and that nagging doubt that they have picked the wrong guy, again, won’t be far from the surface.

I think Edwards is a good manager, but he needs a group of players who want to work with him, not against him. As good as Sarr can be, his no show post AFCON will not stand this season (if he stays). Same could be said for a few others. We have a few unknowns in Pollock and the new GK so will have to see how they turn out. I can see us picking up maybe 4 points from the first three and that is being generous. I am more worried about the morale of the team after last season than what the ability is. If they don't want to be here anymore they won't try.

Well that should get picked up in training. I don't think he's worried that they won't listen or try his tactics, setup. He'll be more anxious about getting those incapable out of the club.

In general, I really think we're going to see a slew of sackings when the natural break for the World Cup comes. It's just at the right time for owners to realise that things are not going the way they'd hoped and before the January transfer window when a new manager has a chance to add to the squad.

I like the man very much. I also liked Ivic too. Rob will have learnt from GT and making young Yaser feel at home is evidence of that and building his confidence.

What concerns me is he really having any influence in the transfers as he was supposed to do ? You can't tell me that he would not have liked someone Kane Wilson at the club ? All managers like to bring someone they know and trust into the dressing room. I fear a poor set of results with some of the shysters masquerading as footballers will do him in like Ivic.

Or like with Ivic they don’t like his personality or his style of management but he seems pretty open and honest .

Mind you won’t matter if we don’t start well as you say .

Getting major David Brent vibes off this guy. But to be fair, that might work for footballers, who might just need someone to be their mate and be cheesily upbeat about everything...

So a bit like Xisco? Difference is here, Edwards seems to have knowledge of football and is not just playing the P.E teacher role in this regard.

I'm just glad he's not Hodgson. I thought quite highly of Roy for his whole career and then he shows up here and was the biggest tosspot. Really disappointing.

Edwards showed up for our last home game and provided more encouragement and respect to Watford in 10 minutes than Roy's duration.

Biggest concern now is 3 at the back. Take a leaf out of Stokes' Test side - set up to attack.

3 at the back works with willing wing backs which we have. Still need legs in cm to win the ball back when needed though. Being able to take a fk too would be a nice change too

    No goals so far.
    1. Is Edwards out of his depth?
    2. Should we feel pity for Edwards as he has a squad of some slower, older turds and very poor quality fringe players only to select?
How many goals will we score against Wycombe? 0 is worth a punt.
We have a very tough start in the Championship. Gino will not hesitate to jettison Edwards if we don't have double figure points total after the first 6 games.
It has been a tough baptism for Edwards so far.

It just maybe that the players are just not good enough.
Edwards can talk all he wants and have some great coaching skills, but it will not change anything if the players are of a poor quality.
We all know about Cathcart, Cleverley, WTE, Kabasele, Kayembe and Fletcher.
Edwards could be finding out that the rest are not up to Championship level.
