Maybe you can afford one leftfield gamble during a window but seems we are hell bent on basing all our recruitment along these lines.

 

The context suggests to me he’s hustling for a move to us but looking to make himself more attractive to us by highlighting the interest of others and/or trying to see if a Serie A/La Liga club comes in for him.

 

Yes if it was still at the negotiating stage I doubt he'd bother coming over. He's probably come to get the tour of the training ground and seal the deal.

But it does also show the reason they sold Cucho was nothing to do with the home grown rule. So what the club told us was complete bollox.

 

If he was homegrown, I’d understand this far more.

Decent age and must at least have had something about him in his career. As a backup and one of 4-5 options? Fine.

But this whole rule of 11 excuse for selling others is being blown apart when we are just replacing them with other overseas players of questionable levels of talent. That’s where my issue with this lies mainly.

There’s plenty of time left in this window - and we must accept relegation is a huge factor in our deals. But it’s got off to a rough looking start even by those metrics.

I think he may do ok for us at Championship level if he signs.

My gut is telling me he may do better than Bayo. Then again that may be just indigestion

Yes I know there's still two months of the window left but make it make sense. We got rid of Cucho and Zinckernagel and are now back at square one without even strengthening the squad.

You two relentlessly playing King and Queen Cog is absolutely no different to those of us who choose to be more critical of the club, the fact that there are really only two of you doing it should probably give you an idea about which stance is more normal though.

The only thing I can think of is that there are planned more outgoings from our non homegrown contingent. A recent athletic article seemed to imply that there where question marks over whether a number of our non homegrown defenders such as Sierralta & Kiko would be staying. But yes, swapping Cucho (whose shown plenty of promise last season) and Zink (whose kind of proven himself at this level) for two unknowns is a strange one

 

Would rather have kept Zinck

 

Here’s a thought. What if we sign Archer on loan and Joao for £3m in addition to Manaj for free and Bayo for £5m.

That would be our front line done for the price of selling Cucho. If we did actually manage to pull that out of the bag, I think people would think very differently about this signing.

On a football forum which naturally attracts criticism there are only half a dozen doommongers who insist on seeing the downside of literally everything. We have been relegated, are struggling to sell our "saleable assets" and have huge debts but some are still criticising that we aren't adequately "strengthening" the squad this summer, with plenty of time before the window slams shut!

I don’t disagree but don’t see how we can fit in a third non-HG striker (Lucas Joao) now. I think Manaj is a perfectly good signing provided we go out and get a top homegrown striker (Archer, Davis, Armstrong). Kieffer Moore would be my first choice if Muff could be tempted. There aren’t really too many homegrown strikers that are good enough to be the main striker and available on loan or under £5m. Cant for the life of me see us getting more than 1 extra.

 

Don’t worry about the NHG thing. That was pure horse***** by the club. We’ll have more than 11 NHG players by the start of the season I’ll suspect.

 

Where has it been said that either player didn’t want to be here? Genuine question.

That just seems like the assumption because we have sold them - their preference may well have been to move but I don’t equate that with not wanting to be here.

 

At the risk of being lumped on with the ‘doom-mongers’, I really wouldn’t feel much different.

Archer I’d be really keen on. I really don’t rate the others that highly. I think Bayo will prove to be a monumental waste of money personally.

 

I though there was a suggestion on the CH thread that he didn't want to play in the champ and wanted to stay in one of the top leagues ? Might be wrong though ? However I'd also equate "preference ...to move" with "not wanting to be here".
