Not throwing the towel in just yet but things are not looking good, I have posted in the past how great it is to be in the Premiership, we are one of the top twenty teams in the Country and have all the exposure from the media, but deep down I miss the Championship. I used to go to games thinking how many goals will we score tonight, now it is more like are we going to score. Being in the Premiership has the money and the glamor. But is that what you want ? Championship Football is fairly level, but money counts in the Premiership, we don't have the money and never will do to stay and compete at this level. Anyone else miss beating Norwich away last year , Ipswich, Sheffield, Cardiff, QPR to name a few.
Most of our players kept fit last season (I know Darius and Young has a spell out) and we were winning game which clearly gave the side confidence. We still played long ball but it actually worked and was effective because we got balls into the area etc. People were complaining about how we played last season...but I and all the other Orns didn't care then because we won a lot of game!
Maybe one day our attitude towards the Prem will be what is towards the Championship (how many will score etc), building a good Premiership team takes a few seasons, i'm sure we'll get to that stage again one day.
I want to stay up this year more than anything in the world. the money next year is a big increase, and puts everything to bed. Stay up this year, loose every game next but at the end of the day the club will be far better off. So any talk of the championship now is naive.
I want us to stay up, I believe we can still stay up. I’m sure Aidy will fire the players up after that performance, he’s has to. We will still surprise some people, the press will probably right us off now, maybe even pay less attention to us, and then we can thrive (or is that just me thinking in desperation?) This season was always going to be tough, but one day as I said above, hopefully we will be winning in the Premiership regularly (without the aid of a foreign investor I should add!)
