I thought Shearer was spot on. I didn't watch anymore! 'Cover his face, his teeth dazzle ' as Webster nearly wrote in ' The Duchess of Malfi'.
Recorded MoTD and could still only last 2 games before I decided life is too short. The format is outdated and utterly sh*t now. All this meaningless and never ending analysis is absolutely killing it. It needs a complete overhaul. Highlights only, talk about controversial stuff in the game, NO ANALYSIS, job done.
All the PL highlights are free on YouTube within a couple of hours these days. Far easier way to watch, albeit only approx 3 minutes per match.
I used to quite like watching the ITV version when they made the switch for a season. It had ad breaks, but I could ignore that fact due to Gabby Logan being the host. Phwarr
Man U very fortunate tonight. 1st game and they get a decision going for them which looked clearly wrong . And generally Wolves had the better chances.
A clear penalty. But 90th minute at Old Trafford against the home team is never going to be given. The FA are as corrupt as FIFA. Always have been always will be. The other way around it’s given every time. We all know it.
Never a penalty. The player had headed the ball away before the keeper clattered him. I had £10 on United.
Typical premier league. Utterly corrupt. Utterly predictable. Used to love football. Could have watched on Sky but chose to watch anything else and just checked the score 5 mins ago. What a horrible product it’s become.
Not sure he was the one to blame this time as the on pitch official. Apparently the guy on VAR was the same one as who did the infamous Spurs v Brighton game last season .
Well contrary to popular belief Simon Hooper is not actually blind. He saw the incident clearly but bottled it as he always does. There should be no letting off for him. Just as culpable as the VAR official, imo.
We know the answer to that don’t we ? I’d describe the decision as a joke, but it’s really not funny. Wolves are very likely to be relegated this season and a point at MU could have given them a valuable point and bit of momentum and belief at the start of the season.
I don’t think they’ll go down. They looked really good last night. A bit like us, play well but are let down by a lack of a finisher. Luton and Sheff Utd are nailed on relegation. Then it’s one from Burnley, Forest, Palace and Everton. Might even be Brentford’s year as a surprise contender.
The usual PGMOL stitch-up. Get it wrong, admit the mistake and explain it away as a one-off, an occasion when the officials fell short of expected standards. Everyone just shrugs and we go on – until the next time. Back when the pundits and referees were lobbying for the introduction of VAR their argument was that the officials 'had to get the big decisions right' and VAR would enable them to do so. All that's really happened is it's given the officials a second bite of the cherry to ensure the 'right' decision gets made.
Those that run VAR now seem to be hiding behind the idea that they don’t want to overturn the on-field ref’s original decision if there’s any doubt (probably because they want to reduce the number of times there is the farce of the ref consulting the monitor before inevitably changing his mind). Well, there’s always a smidgeon of doubt, but pre-VAR it was the ref’s job to make the decision. So now it seems the only ones that will definitely be overturned are offsides. What’s the point of having VAR at all?
Whilst most people can accept an on field decision going against their side if the officials were badly sighted I don't think anyone can accept that type of decision from the chap watching the monitor. What did he think the correct decision should be after he witnessed Superman flying through the air, miss the ball and flatten a Wolves player ?. Data is given to support the argument that VAR is working but that includes the "fag paper" offside decisions . But was that why it was introduced? To disallow goals because of an encroaching toe nail? . I thought the point and purpose was to stop injustices that happened yesterday.
It hasn't taken L*t*N long to leave their nasty little stain. Two arrests for homophobic chants on Saturday.
It won't be long before the honeymoon is over and it gets toxic down at the Kennel . A few more drubbings. Patience everyone !!
I'm not putting that Wolves decision down to incompetence, even my mum could've seen that was a foul. It stinks and there's something bigger going on in English football. That's nothing new of course but last night was so blatant, it's sickening.
I gather from a pal who works in TV that the volume had to be turned down because the homophobic chanting from the away fans at Brighton was so loud. As for VAR, @Lubaduck and others are spot on – football is a fast-moving game. You could understand on-field officials getting big decisions wrong because football is a fast-moving game and the ref and assistants only have one view, in real time. You could even accept the unconscious (!) bias of officials who hesitated to give big decisions against big clubs, if they were borderline. But with VAR there is now no excuse. It's either incompetence or deliberate policy.
They came very close last season and their financial position means they’ve not replaced key players they’ve lost and appointed a cheap cast-off as manager. Morale will be rotten which is why that point could have been huge for their belief. I agree that SU and Luton are hot favourites but think Wolves will be very much in the mix for the 3rd relegation spot.
In another sense, they should have left it, to simply show them up for who they are. And a points deduction.
Not saying you're wrong.....it's the Prem and anyone can get sucked into the scrap. They find goals hard to come by, which usually means you will struggle, but I was just very impressed with them last night. Clearly the better side and just poor finishing and match fixing prevented them from getting anything.
