People like this repeatedly fail to realise that fans wanting Pozzo out has little to do with what is happening on the pitch. Purely speaking for myself, even if we were promoted this season I'd still want Pozzo gone. We're a ticking time bomb financially, he needs to go.
Nope. I don’t go. Gave up my season ticket after last season. Done my time for now. I’m just a half-hearted keyboard warrior, with the tenacity of Kaba and the guile of Troost.
Idiots like this are the problem with our fanbase. Nobody is upset with our league position (beyond natural disappointment that your club isn’t going so well). People are upset with the way the club is run (see points 1 to 10 blah blah blah). Either people like this don’t bother listening to what people say, or they are thick as cheap mince.
Can you please use a darker pen, preferably black, when you redact my name in future. Many thanks Dave.
I think the majority of Pozzo-outers are, whether they like it or not, massively influenced by results and league position. Hence why the 18 Pozzo Out threads are eerily quiet after a win, and a further 10 are created after a loss. I can potentially see big-ish protests if we lose to Luton. But there's no chance there'll be anything of the sort if we go on a decent run and sit in the top 6 a month from now, despite the fact our financial troubles will remain, as will our links to Mogi. I acknowledge this genuinely isn't the case for fans such as yourself, but the majority are a very fickle bunch.
Personally I think the problems were there even before the Cup Final season. The old modus operandi no longer worked and GP’s attempts to replace it were based on flawed decisions: financially and ethically. We were never really ‘established’ in the EPL and Pozzo has mortgaged the club to the hilt to pay for ever more desperate attempts to get back to where we were in 2018.
That will be the thing that ends us I fear. He is throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks this season and be doing doubly so next season (because we will be on our final year of parachute payments). If we think it's bad now (and it is), wait for another year he gets increasingly desparate to dig himself out the enormous hole he is in. All he can do at that point, if a new buyer has not wiped us debt clean by then, is to beg Papa Pozzo for a huge loan to cover the season after that. Although, there is quite a high chance we could be a League One club by then. Everything is a mess right now, and it will only get worse before we see any green shoots of recovery.
It's the loans that concern me the most. As it would say that actually even Pozzo Snr can't afford to give money, and that we're in desperate need now. The Italian league generates no revenue (in comparable terms) to the Premier League so we really were the cash cow in the partnership. The hope for Pozzo Snr is that Udinese continue their good form and get to the Champions League. For Watford I think we'll see Sarr and arguably Pedro both being sold in January - particularly if we're continue to fall away. I think they'd have liked to hold onto Pedro but Sarr's inconsistent form and injury record will have tanked his market value
Interesting, as I didn't see it before the cup final, rather that that was the moment that triggered the downfall. I saw 2018/2019 as the moment it peaked, all the players somewhat came good at the same time. There was the one outlier in the form of Gray transfer the year befor which perhaps should have been a warning sign of a "signing for the vanity" rather than need, but I'd say even though there was a lot of crap they also managed to get some decent numbers in to counter it. But for whatever reason (I've mentioned my thoughts that Giampaolo ceasing all involvement in 2018 as being the catalyst) everything changed after that final and we've looked a club in turmoil since
If we are still looking like mid table at best I wouldn't be at all surprised to see then both "sold" to Udinese for a price which is surprising less than was touted in the summer when other clubs were interested.
I hope that as our wins continue to pile up and we glide effortlessly up the table, this cause doesn't lose any momentum. Odd that this thread has been silent since October 22nd. For what it's worth I am currently petitioning the council to install a statue of the Pozzos (father and son) in Charter Place.
I've been informed several times that results have no bearing on how furious people are with Pozzo, so I'm assuming that the ghost town this thread has become is just some sort of webpage error. And there definitely won't be a sudden rush of activity next time we lose a game, no way. Also assume the protests will be pretty vociferous pre-Coventry this weekend.
Obviously I still want Pozzo out. But you seem right - 2 or 3 wins immediately gets many of our fanbase to overlook his dreadful ways. So the way things are going I will be ploughing a lonely furrow until we waste the next premier league money pot and lose 10 in a row. And then we'll win a few in the championship and everyone will be back onside again. In the meantime seems pretty pointless me reaffirming in here I want Pozzo out. People know my views.
What if we then won every game next season? And the season after? Surely there’s a threshold for consecutive wins whereby Pozzo will begrudgingly be allowed to stay?
Bear in mind these people were hoping we'd lose at home to those ****s up the road. Rational thought does not come in to their ranting!
It’s not about results. It’s cos he’s foreign and not a real fan like Elton. And he fires managers too frequently. And wont spend money on defenders. And he relies on a dodgy agent. And might bankrupt us (sadly true).
You’ve said some daft things in the past, but making out that people who want Pozzo out are xenophobic is prime idiocy.
No, it's a list not a sole reason. I'm sure many fans would much prefer a local man to own the club than an Italian businessman. Local, excluding Stanmore of course.
Would you prefer a local owner or are you just attempting to smear those who disagree with you? I have no preference where our owner comes from. My ask is he operates with competency, prudence and professionalism.
Pozzo can still **** right off. People are perfectly happy to keep bending over for him while he drags our club through the mud.
I don't really care, but I guess I'd have a marginal preference for someone with a local connection to the club. Not trying to smear anyone. I respect and understand your views though I don't get to the same "vile" conclusion that you do. You explain the reasoning behind your views rather than for example RS2's post.
The issue is as football owners go Pozzo is probably above average here. I've been savagely derided for using 'be careful what you wish for' logic, but it could really be a LOT worse. In an ideal world I would like to see a new investor and a new voice to challenge Pozzo and his mental recruitment ideas, but casting Pozzo aside completely... that would be a huge risk and one I don't see any reason to take.
Agree with this. The right investor could be great. Another Wigan/Charlton owner would be disaster and Pozzo wouldn't care who they sold to. Bassini/Petchey/Bonser etc. Elton leading a consortium would be perfect but I doubt it will ever happen.
This thread will be interesting when Mogi’s trial starts. Reckon some of the mental gymnastics will be astounding.
Could be partly due to us being on a good run of results, but the football is still far from perfect and we are still left with players' who should not be here and IF we went up, would almost certainly see us finish in 20th place. Actually that's another point. If we did go up, can any of you see Gino doing things right this time? Will he be sensible with the PL money and manage it so we do have a bit of money to replace some players in this aging side? Will he see the need to go for a RWB? It doesn't matter if we went up as Champions, runner ups or playoff winners. We would never survive with the squad we have now and the last thing we want to do is copy Forest who spent loads of cash on ten players who have not gelled and they already look in danger of relegation back to the Champ. I wouldn't trust Gino with a fiver I lent him let alone the PL money. It would need to be carefully divided and invested in the squad where it can be, then the majority used to pay some of our debt off.
There's definitely going to be riots when we've just won our eleventh game on the spin to go top of the table and a man with a tangential relationship to our owner gets a slap on the wrists.
He really isn't if you want my opinion. Primary evidence is the accounts, and that's before we get into integrity type issues with his bizarre relationship with Mogi Bayat. I don't see why people can say Pozzo is above average in "professionalism" for example. Do they think everyone is happy to forge close links with people being investigated for financial crime?
Be very interested to see how you could quantify this statement - as opposed to just saying it and therefore it being true. I know your current stock and trade is to make sarcastic/humorous(!) posts but it would be good to see you come out with irrefutable points to back up that initial comment.
