Well, maybe when Simpson comes out and says he popped into Hills on his way home from the Vic after selling Young and put all the dosh on us staying up we might find out we do need to sell King ;D

Mr. Boothroyd must learn to try and bring in some experience up top.

If you go down, Teddy Sheringham, Dion Dublin, John Hartson, Chris Sutton and the like would be good additions. Having said that, the squad is already well equipped for The Championship. Many players for Watford who can;t quite cut the mustard in the PL, but perhaps will set the world alight in the Championship.

If you are money mad I don't think you get involved in a football club. :(

This is true, their is no way we could turn down that offer for Ashley Young. We are also not money mad IMO,as the club is still paying the stadium redevelopment by loans and other sources, and when we do go up again we dont have to worry about spending money on our stadium and more money can be spent on players.
I think the club have acted in a senible manner this time and not put our club in the pooh again by overspending.

Ummmm if you get your calculator out you'll see that after selling poor Ashley, we havent actually spent a penny on players this season

Add to that the money generated by promotion and im beginning to wonder where its all dissappeared to!

The stadium plans and finances were agreed and finalised PRIOR to promotion so no-one can use that old chestnut....

Sorry to keep harping on but we should have at least taken a little gamble this season in an attempt to stay up!

Always like debating this with you ;D

First of all you have the financial deficit the club annouced last June to counter-balance. Secondly you have the increase in wages that no doubt followed promotion. Next you have to add up all the transfer fees we have spent which comes to £6m. Finally, you have to factor in that players actually have to want to come to you for them to sign. Ever since Mr Bosman won his case in the early ninties players ceased to be commodities to be traded on paper between clubs and became the kingmakers of every move. If Aidy says he went for plenty of people and they weren't interested I for one believe him (though of course I'm saying you have to :))

Anyway, I don't quite get why you assume it's disappeared to be honest. I think the club are due to annouce their half year accounts soon (July 06 - Dec 06) so I think you'll find it all appears then.

Finally, and this is the crucial bit in my books - the Young money is paid in installments.

Why do you call him 'poor Ashley'? It was a good career move for him and I don't suppose he's out of pocket either.

Alot of people have said why didnt we spend youngs money, and your right,we recieve 8mill in 12 monthly instalements.

If we didnt go up I dont think a £32mill referb of the stadium would of been in place, only the main stand, especially when peeps were owed £19mill at the club,or we could of been looking at a 51mill debt.Thats alot of Elton concerts to cover that :))

Also some forget that 12mill of this money is to be paid to us over the next 2 seasons in the CCC,that will just cover the wages.

Not sure on your sums there...??? The referb is costing Watford FC only a few millions. The vast vast majority is being paid by Origin.

The whole WFC project was announced as a £32,000,000 investment, that doesn't just include the current refurbishment though, I think it covers the future plans too. (East Stand, Corners, Third Rous Tier)

This may sound stupid but to me, I love all the contraversy with the stuff he gets up to. The incident is over-hyped and probably has something to do with the fact he plays for Watford, but I love the fact he's a regular bloke who likes a bit of a good time. At the end of the day he's a great character, who may get in a bit of trouble, by calling linesmen ****s and buying dodgey BMWs but at the end of the day loves the fans and playing for the club. A cult hero already

I heard someone say after Ashikodi got booked on debut for his celebration "he needs to cut that out his game". I thought it was BRILLIANT someone was that passionate and excited to score on his Watford debut, and he instantly gained credibility in my books for doing it.

Unfortunally nowdays its become a sport where you cant really enjoy yourself. If you score a goal the players cant celebrate without being booked for it,if the crowd go mad then the stewards come racing at you.The FA are trying to turn it back into a 1970"s game, where in them days, someone would score, hardly celebrate it and just walk back to the half way line.

All seater stadia has practically killed the atmosphere at games, and with stupid lunch time kick offs no one really gets to build themselfs up to a game anymore.

TPOLN- I agree with you when you say it's a bad thing that passion is leaking out the game. What is really wrong with a player taking his shirt off when he scores to show his delight at putting the ball in the back of the net. Next they'll be telling the fans not to cheer when a goal's scored!

I can understand why players are cautioned for jumping into the crowd. It's a significant safety hazard and not everyone is big enough to protect themselves from a surge in the crowd. Just don't do it. Stand in front of the hoardings and celebrate. Won't get booked for that

Ok, fair enough it may be a safety hazard for a player to jump into the crowd, but what is wrong with a player taking his shirt off to celebrate a goal? If it's offensive, they'd better start banning all the adverts on TV featuring topless blokes, at a footballer taking his shirt off has a proper reason for it rather than just to try and sell some over-priced product.

It's total madness, if they keep filtering out the passion we'll end up with a sport like American Football, one great big theatre show.

I agree with you entirely about the shirt thing. I think I heard somewhere that FIFA introuduced that rule as in some areas of the world it's an offensive gesture and obviously as the laws of the game have to be uniform around the world it had to be introduced here too. The rule stinks though.

Either way, it's a stupid rule. I can only imagine the countries where it would be held offensive don't really attract many foreign players so the players will be aware its offensive, probably even assist the public hanging if one of their own team did it.

Obviously these countries may well broadcast foreign football as well, so just stick a 12 certificate on all matches (15 if Bang Bang is playing) and thats the problem sorted. Then we don't squeeze the passion out of the game and those easily offended can't complain because they'll have due warning.
