Ok there's been threads stateing who they think will/should leave.

Who do you think could come in next season ?

I'm not sure that we'll get many in to be honest. I think that most of this seasons transfers are fro the push next season. The likes of Hoskins, Moses etc. I reckon we might get acouple more old heads coming to the end of their career ala Powell.

Wouldn't mid seeing Teddy Sheringham here, think his contract is up and could be persuaded with a promise of a few games. Think he could still do a job for us.

attacking wise and also in midfild we are ok , although we will need to get a new Left back , center back (maybe) and also a keeper in.

I think many including moi would , although i dont think it will happern. although if west brom stay down we might have a slighty chance of seeing him in a yellow shirt.

we definitly need a right midfielder as at the moment we have only smith so not enough competition and he was to get injured wed be kinda screwed

Well chambers can play at right mid , although i guess it depends if doyley stays or not.

A goalkeeper, and two right sided players (full back and winger). Have not got a clue but perhaps Jarvis from Gillingham as a winger? Would get a cover left back in as well.

Evening all. What has happened to McAnuff? Anyone think Chris Brunt could be a realistic target?

Chris Brunt would be an excellent signing, i heard figures of around £2M being suggested for him which is well in our price range and decent value IMO.

    Good shout

  15. Timbers

    Timbers Apeman

Shame Shef Weds are doing well as them going down would have meant Brunt would have been a bit cheaper. Interesting to note that we was at Boro when younger but they released him as McLaren thought Downing was a better prospect. Do we need another another left winger as Bouazza will most likely play there with all our strikers next season?

To be honest I feel we have a great side from midfield and up. We sorely need a creative spark in midfield but I think that Williamson and Williams will come good in the CCC where they'll have more time on the ball. Hopefully Francis will feck off somewhere else.

Our defensive midfield is good with Mahon and Al Bang to back him up. Our wings - especially the left with Hameur (with cavalli backing up) but also Noddy (with Campana covering) on the right look good. With more space we'll see crosses en masse next season. Up front is where I see us best covered. If Marlon comes back to past strength but even if not - Hendo, Kabba and Hoskins I feel will get goals for us. I won't predict our prefered partnership but just say we have cover in depth. Good cover.

Defensively we have good players. Doyley, Clarke, Jay and Chambers have all proven themselves in the CCC. Shittu is premiership class and if he stays with us he'll rule the airspace at the Vic.

We need a left back, a right back, a keeper and a right wing - two if Noddy gets the chance of a gold coin. But we don't need backups for Doyley, Stewart, Lee and Noddy. We need top players who are better than what we have. Otherwise we'll be more or less the same team that went up last time. But this time - opponents know our style.

Stewart has come on leaps and bounds this season and if he takes some of this season's form into next season then we'll have a solid left back on our hands.

    GK: Someone like Lee Camp
RM: Lee Martin on loan from Man U
MF: Rohan Ricketts from Wolves (i think his contract runs out in the summer)

I can't believe you are still suggesting Rohan friggin' Ricketts (you've already been slated for it in one thread)!! He's not even good enough for Wolves, let alone us. We are already well stocked in centre-mid.

I'm happy with Stewart at left-back at the moment and he has done surprisingly well this season (I never would have imagined saying this at this time last season) and Parkes and Chambers (if we keep him) should hopefully provide some alright cover.

Right back is more of a priority, particularly if Aidy is looking for potentially Premiership players, as I'm not confident that Mariappa, Chambers or Doyley will ever be.

I also agree that we need another quality winger who could rotate with either Bouazza or Smith (although maybe Williamson could do a good job deputising right-mid?).

If King does not come back the player he was, then I would like to see us splurge some cash trying to replace him with someone like Earnshaw or Chopra so that we will have someone we know could sneak us a goal even in hard times (Priskin and Hoskins might be able to do this in the Champ, but it could be too risky trying to rely on them if we are serious about automatic promotion).

A new goalkeeper pretty much goes without saying.

A keeper ia a priority as Alex needs replacing and Roche isnt ready yet.As Ive mentioned before their is a few places that need some quality. Its ok have quanity but quaility needs are much more.

IMO we need a creative midfielder,a box to box man who is a ball player, someone that can tackle and see the next pass.Looking at what we have they all seem to similar, thats why they proberly would not all get in the side at once.

Wide player,I would go for Mcanuff of palace,he is young and has pace and is a natrual wide player.

We need another central defender as Malky is close to hanging up his boots and his legs will not manage another season.Marriapa is a central Defender and can play that role if we are hit with injuries and the RB position is well covered.

Even though Id say we need a natrual winger,Bouazza and smith can still play them roles.I think we have seen the last of Mcnamee,he has had his chances and does not do enough to warrant a starting place every week,we only see glimses, and its not consistant enough.

I still feel that AB will go after Healy of leeds.

I would like to see AB mix and match the midfield in the pre-season friendly games and see what works best.We already have a large squad and it needs triming whether we sell or loan out, especially the younger ones,it will do them good.

  21. Evasive

    Evasive Requiescat in pace

I agree with Chewitt that Stewart had been playing pretty well before his injury and is much better than the Jordan we came to despise after his first few months at the club. Yes we do need left-back cover but at the moment I see Jordan as our no.1 left back.

    Who?

Might Williamson be able to do this?

With Shittu, Jay, Carlisle, Doyley and Mariappa I reckon we will be fine at centre-back for next season.

This isn't going to happen and I hope it doesn't. Aidy has had plenty of opportunities to sign Healy if he'd wanted to; we were desperate for a striker in the transfer window and Leeds were in dire straits, yet I didn't even read any dodgy rumours from a red-top that we'd even been considering making a bid.
I doubt he would be a significant enough improvement over Priskin, Hoskins and Kabba either; he has only scored 8 so far this season.
If we go for another striker, it should be one who can get us 20 goals next season.

Leeds wanted around a mill for him,AB was not gonna pay that,I can see the price coming down for him,and Healey isnt gonna wanna play football in Div 1.

Also The keeper who I dont think is ready is the young scottish lad we signed who"s name I spelt wrong scott loach.

Right now we need a lot of stuff. Luckily, we get two players "for free" for next season:

Clarke Carlisle - the solution to our central defense problem, so that we're less likely to be in a situation where we have to use Mackay or Doyley.
Marlon King - hopefully back at his best. The solution to our striker problem.

Still we have some things to sort out:

Goalkeeper - Who's taking over for Foster? Lee can do the job, but he's not outstanding like Ben. This is going to cost us a fair amount of points in the long run.
Right back - Mariappa may excel in the Championship when the opponents don't attack with such laser precision. But, he's still far from a full grown right back and Doyley/Chambers are dodgy cover at best.
Left back - Sure, we have Stewart but behind him? Powell really must hang up his boots. Parkes is still too young. Mariappa/Chambers/Doyley out of position is a bad solution. I'd like to see a class left back signed during the summer. Stewart will still be useful as cover both on left back and on the left wing with his deep crosses.
Right winger - There's no real competition for this place in our team. Perhaps Kabba can be re-trained to the position, but Aidy seems more likely to use Williamson there, which is a bad idea if you ask me. We should try to find a super-quick, young winger to challenge Smithy for the place. James Chambers is not an option!
Creative midfielder ? - Well, right now it seems weird to buy _another_ midfielder, but I think Francis will leave and possibly Mahon (he's really not one for the future and certainly not creative anyway). We have Cavalli, but I'd like us to sign a real playmaker ala Misimovic from Bochum.

If we get one player for each of the indexes above we can rid overselves of some players that in my opinion don't have the quality or potential to make it in a future Premiership campagn:

Doyley, Chambers, Mahon, some reserve team players (like Blizz, Gill, Osbourne). Also, Francis will probably want to leave and we can get back perhaps £1M for him.

Agree with the above, and would like to add I think we should sign a good full back who can play either left or right. However even with Carlisle I feel we will still need a new centre back.

    Good post hartvix but......

I DON'T TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, BY THE WAY I AM NOT SHOUTING, I AM USING CAPITALS TO SEPERATE MY COMMENTS FROM YOURS :)

I AGREE THOSE TWO ARE A BIG BONUS, AND CEDRIC AVINEL MIGHT PROVE USEFUL AS WELL, AIDY SEEMS TO RATE HIM HIGHLY

Still we have some things to sort out:

Goalkeeper - Who's taking over for Foster? Lee can do the job, but he's not outstanding like Ben. This is going to cost us a fair amount of points in the long run.

AGAIN I AGREE, LEE CAN DO IT, BUT I WOULD BE HAPPIER IF WE COULD BRING IN SOMEONE ELSE AS NO1

Right back - Mariappa may excel in the Championship when the opponents don't attack with such laser precision. But, he's still far from a full grown right back and Doyley/Chambers are dodgy cover at best.

ON MARIAPPA I AGREE BROADLY WITH YOUR COMMENTS, ON DOYLEY AS WELL, IN FACT I THINK DOYLEY MIGHT BE ON HIS WAY OUT, AS MARIAPPA IS NOW FILLING DOYLEYS ROLE AS OUR BACK UP FOR RB AND FOR CB. BUT ON CHAMBERS I BEGIN TO DIFFER WITH YOU, I THINK HE IS AND SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE OUR 1ST CHOICE RB.

HERE AGAIN I DO NOT TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. I AGREE ABOUT POWELL, AND THAT THE OTHER THREE PLAYING OUT OF POSITION IS NOT A GOOD SOLUTION. HOWEVER I THINK STEWART IS A GOOD IST CHOICE LB AND I THINK HE MIGHT WELL BE MADE CLUB CAPTAIN NEXT SEASON. AS FOR YOUNG PARKES I THINK HE COULD FILL THE SLOT AS BACKUP, SO I DON'T SEE A LEFT BACK AS A PRIORITY. IF WE COULD PICKUP A UTILITY DEFENDER WHO CAN PLAY ANYWHERE ACROSS THE BACK, I THINK WE WOULD THEN BE OK AT THE BACK. SPEAKING OF WHICH, IS THE OTHER BANGURA STILL ON OUR BOOKS? THE ONE IN NORWAY AT THE MOMENT, BECAUSE IF HE IS AND IF HE IS SOON TO BE ELIGIBLE, HE WOULD BE THE ANSWER AS HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO PLAY ANYWHERE IN DEFENCE!!!

I GENERALY AGREE WITH YOU HERE, THOUGH I BELIEVE THAT KABBA IS ALREADY SUPPOSED TO BE A COMPETANT WIDE RIGHT PLAYER AS WELL AS A STRIKER, AND TO BE HONEST I THINK HE HAS LOOKED AT HIS BEST WHEN PLAYING IN THAT POSITION FOR US. AS FOR WILLIAMSON & CHAMBERS IN THAT POSITION I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENTS. ANOTHER RW WOULD BE GOOD!!!

THIS IS AN AREA WE HAVE NEEDED TO STRENGTHEN FOR SOME TIME. AIDY WAS OBVIOUSLY ATTEMPTING TO DO THIS IN JANUARY JUDGING BY THE AMOUNT OF MF PLAYERS HE BROUGHT IN, BUT I WOULD SAY THE JURY IS STILL OUT ON THIS ONE. FRANCIS AND MAHON I AGREE MIGHT BE ON THE WAY OUT AND I WOULD ADD BLIZZARD TO THAT LIST. LEAVING CAVALLI, WILLIAMS, RINALDI, WILLIAMSON, BANGURA, IN CENTRAL MF, HAVE I FORGOTTEN ANYONE? HOWEVER, I AM NOT SURE IF ANY OF THEM FIT THE BILL AT THE MOMENT, EXCEPT MAYBE RINALDI ON HIS EARLY SHOWING? ALL OF THEM SHOULD STAY BUT, I WOULD NOT SAY NO TO A MORE ESTABLISHED PLAYMAKER!!!

If we get one player for each of the indexes above we can rid overselves of some players that in my opinion don't have the quality or potential to make it in a future Premiership campagn:

AGAIN I DON'T TOTALLY AGREE. ANOTHER LW OR UTILITY WIDE PLAYER WHO CAN PLAY ON BOTH WINGS MIGHT BE USEFUL AS A BACKUP FOR BOUAZZA, AS IT LOOKS LIKE MACCA IS ON HIS WAY OUT AND IMHO HE WAS NEVER REALLY CONSISTANT ENOUGH ANYWAY. ALSO UP FRONT, UNLESS HOSKINS & PRISKIN OR SOME OF THE OTHER STRIKERS BEGIN TO SHOW THEIR POTENTIAL , WE MIGHT NEED TO FIND OURSELVES ANOTHER GOAL SCORER TO PARTNER MARLON, ASSUMING HE GETS BACK TO HIS BEST THAT IS, IF HE DOESN'T WE MIGHT NEED TO FIND TWO!!!

Doyley, Chambers, Mahon, some reserve team players (like Blizz, Gill, Osbourne). Also, Francis will probably want to leave and we can get back perhaps £1M for him.

AGAIN, I BROADLY AGREE WITH THAT LIST, BUT NOT WITH CHAMBERS, I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP HIM AS OUR 1ST CHOICE RB!!!

Umaru Bangura is on loan at Honefoss in the Norwegian equivalent to the Championship. He started his loan in May 2006 and I think I read somewhere that the loan has been extended to the end of the 2007 season, which ends in October this year.

From what I heard, Watford reckon that he has to stay in Norway for 2 years to get an English work permit. However, Umaru is constantly away playing internationals for Sierra Leone, so maybe it can be sorted out a bit faster.

In Honefoss, he's been playing as midfielder.

    A question hartvix....

Am I right in saying that Norway is not in the EU? If that is the case, how does playing in Norway help Bangura to get a permit to play for us in England, do you know
